Rating: Summary: Variations on the same recipe Review: I must agree with some of the critics. This book contains one idea with a dozen variations. There are so many ways a person can slow cook a beef stew. How about some proven recipes? I usually like to cook low-fat foods, and this book doesn't fit my criteria. I was sorely disappointed in this book and ended up selling this book on EBAY.
Rating: Summary: Too much repetition! Review: I am a disappointed buyer. The back cover boasts more than 800 recipes, but there are a huge number of very similar recipes: more than a dozen versions of bean stew, eight similar versions of ham and potatoes, eight meatloafs, seven Mexican cheese dips using Velveeta cheese. The authors would do better to present a lot fewer recipes that have been screened for the "cream of the crop."
Rating: Summary: Slightly disappointed Review: Great receipes but not well organized
Rating: Summary: I love this book Review: Hi Every recipe i've tried in this book so far as worked out i'm so pleased with it :)Now I want to get the next book, thats simular to it. I really like the spiral one, its easy to read and everything is made simple. I I definately recommend it, well enough gushing about it. Carolyn .
Rating: Summary: disapointed! Review: I was disapointed when I got this book. Yes, it does have lots of recipes but I found it wasn't quite what I was looking for. Most of the bean recipes called for canned beans when I have found the slow cooker to be the best way to cook dried beans. I couldn't see the point of throwing a few different cans of beans together and leaving them in the slow cooker for hours. Alot of the other recipes called for canned soups and canned vegetables. There is so much more that can be done with a slow cooker other than using canned food stuffs. The recipes in this book were obviously meant for a variety of sizes of crockpots but nowhere in this book did it state what sizes they used. I found this book a little boring and unimaginative.
Rating: Summary: I LOVE IT!!!! Review: I love my crock pot and I love any recipe books that can help me make creative and delicious meal in my crock pot. This book is one of the best crock pot recipe books I've come across. As an avid cookbook collector, this is one that gets used the majority of the time. My husband makes fun of my crock pot cooking, but was bitten by the bug when he tried a pumpkin pie pudding recipe from this book. He even tried a chocolate pudding cake recipe, and while that didn't 'hook' him...he stopped getting on me about our easy, one pot meals. Sometimes, I just sit and look through all the recipes and plan meals from the book. I don't know what I want to make ahead of time, I let the book 'speak' to me. It may take a while, but I eventually plan to make every recipe in it.
Rating: Summary: Best collection of slow cooker recipes ever! Review: When I first got my slow cooker all I could find were old outdated slow cooker recipe books from the library. While the recipes were good, most of them were chicken and beef and there weren't that many. This book is great because there are recipes for almost anything, macaroni and cheese, bean meals, breads, as well as some new beef recipes I have never seen before. This cook book would be a great gift for a new bride like me, (I got this book for Christmas), the working women, or busy moms. Some of my favorite recipes are Chili and Cheese on Rice, and Macaroni and Cheese. This book would be great for moms to get kids to eat things like beans. I never liked beans before I tried some of these recipes from this book. I have a pregnant friend who needs to eat spinach, and I recommended this book to her because there are a lot of spinach recipes in this book. If I like the recipes and I'm a picky eater, I know your family will like them too. :)
Rating: Summary: Great Index! Review: I don't understand the complaints about this book's index...can't people read? The recipes not only appear under their title, but ALSO under food types, such as chicken, beef, beans(kidney), beans(green), etc...Some of the types of food contain many, many recipes since there are more than 800 in the book, so a food type may run several pages....so look again! This book is full of delicious recipes. While some recipes may seem to be duplicates, upon closer examination there are slight variations in the ingredients, giving the cook the opportunity to choose the recipe for which they have the ingredients on hand! What a fantastic feature for those of us who follow recipes and aren't good at making our own adjustments for fear the recipe will flop!
Rating: Summary: Lot's of recipes, but not well indexed Review: and most are sort of repetitive (i.e., 12 beef stew recipes, 13 lasagna recipes, etc.). There are some gems in the book, that I have flagged for re-use. But some of the recipes are, quite frankly, not very good. Also, you can't look up the recipes by food type (like chicken, pork, etc.). The index is only by recipe title, which isn't very useful.
Rating: Summary: I love it! Review: My fiance and I absolutely love this book. I have made many of the recipes included. The authors include a few different recipes for the same type of dish, such as stew or roast beef. I found this very useful because it gave me the freedom to pick a recipe based on what ingredients I had at home or would be more likely to use again. It also helped give me the confidence to alter recipes by changing a few ingredients. At the same time, there are plenty of different recipes for different types of meals. The recipes are easy to understand and easy to put together. Tips and hints found throughout the book are also helpful. Some of my favorite recipes are pungent beef stew, hungarian goulash, dripped beef, tangy barbecue sandwiches. There are so many more recipes I can't wait to try. I definitely recomend this book, especially to the person who is new with using the slow cooker.
