Rating: Summary: A SLOW-COOKERS BEST FRIEND Review: For decade the slow-cooker/crock pot has been relegated to the dark corners of the kitchen cupboard or maybe even in the basement. Rarely used except perhaps when taking a dish to work or a party. The crock pot was in the realm of near useless cooking appliances like the salad-shooter. But Crockpots have been making a comeback in recent years as they lend themselves to our busy lifestyles. once thought of as grandmas old piece of junk, Crocks now are capable of producing some of the best recipes you could ever want. Throw it in before work and it's ready after work.
This book packs in a whopping 800 recipes between its covers, divided into three columns per page with a recipe in each column, you have tremendous choices for any meal. Along with the recipes are tips from getting the most out of your slow-cooker such as NOT removing the lid since it takes 15 minutes to regain the heat it loses.
The book is categorized is the standard fashion with Appetizers, Soups and Stews, Main dishes, Vegetables, Desserts, etc, and all pulled together with a thorough index. Best of all this book is wonderful for inexperience cooks as there is very little in the way of preperation needed for the receipes. It really is a fix and forget book!
Want some good tips right off the bat? How about a simply delectable recipe for BBQ Beef? No fuss or muss with your outdoor grill or smoker. You won't believe the taste you cah get from your slow cooker. There are magnificent chili recipes or use it to make your own favorite chili recipe. And the pot roast and stew receipes produce beef that melts in your mouth.
Great book!
Rating: Summary: Quantity? Yes. Variety? No. Review: I picked this book up in the bookstore because it sounded like just what I was looking for -- simple. What I discovered is that the recipes are definitely simple, but they're also incredibly repetitive. Sure, I can appreciate a dozen variations in swiss steak, but I'm not sure that counts as a dozen recipes. I flipped through most of the main dish section without finding more than a couple things I even wanted to try.
I think this is a great cookbook if you're looking for flavor variations on slow cooker classics. If you're looking for recipes that are both simple and interesting, I'd look elsewhere.
Rating: Summary: Waste of money Review: This book lists the same recipes over and over, the only difference being the recipe name itself. The organization of recipes is poor. All the recipes I tried were bland and tasteless. I would not recommend this book to anyone.
Rating: Summary: Fast Food for Slow Cookers! Review: I've previewed a lot of cookbooks online and in stores, and all of them except one were complicated, time-consuming to prepare, and required ingredients I didn't have handy. This one is the exception! The recipes are easy, quick, and use common ingredients most folks would have already in their pantries. I especially like the breakfast recipes this book contains.
For a person like me who is busy, on-the-go, and often entrusted with preparing the meal for the day, this book is a gem! With a crockpot (we actually have three of them in our house) and this book, you will be all set for hearty meals in a snap!
Rating: Summary: Simple Ingredients book Review: If I wanted to spend alot of time preparing sauces and pre-cooking ingredients, I wouldn't be unto Crockery cooking. THANK YOU for giving me recipes with simple ingredients like canned creamed soups that when added to the right main ingredients and perked up with the simple herbs and spices that I keep on hand, make a delicious meal. I can put together a meal in 5 minutes on my way out the door!
I could hardly put this book down. Just like my new morning brew made from soy beans. Taste like coffee, sans the caffeine, and contains no tannic acids. I have no more heartburn and that is something to write about. Google it online under "s oyfee".

I enjoyed this book as much as I enjoy my new beverage of choice. Made from 100% organic soy, taste just like coffee and no caffeine. Finally, I got rid of that wired up feeling all day and feeling great. Look for it on the net by googling "s o yfee". My whole family has loved each and every recipe we've tried so far.
Rating: Summary: very dissapointing Review: I bought this book because it was all the rage a year or two ago. I was new to slow cooking and thought this would help me figure it out. The problem was that I'm not a meat and potatoes or canned food kind of person. I don't keep that stuff on hand and prefer fresh cooked meals.
Another problem was the repetitive nature of it. Not only do I not care to cook a lot of the recipes, but there are about ten different versions of each boring recipe. I hope I can find a book to tell me how to adapt my own recipes to the slow cooker.
Rating: Summary: My Good .. Your Bad Review: I like eating healthy, fresh and low fat... a lot of people do nowdays, but some days you just want (NEED) comfort food that is ready when you get home, without the expence, out of your way drive time or wait of take-out-food. This cookbook fills that need with many variations, so you most likely have all the ingredents in your pantry. If you gave a bad review or agree with those who did....try "Not Your Mother's Slow Cooker Cookbook"....I own both and use both!!
Also epicurious.com has Fix It Forget It Lightly and Not Your Mother's Slow Cooker Cookbook on their "The Peoples Choice" best cookbooks of the year list. Sorry, Fix It Forget It isn't on the list but I still like this cookbook.
Rating: Summary: epitome of crock-pot cooking Review: We received this cookbook as a present - otherwise I would have never bought it. I can't say I was surprised by the recipes. They are typical potlock dishes that I've been eating at church and family carry-ins for my whole life but I was puzzled when I browsed the chapter on beans to find that all but one of the recipes called for canned beans rather than dried beans for which a slow cooker is perfect for. Why would you want to cook canned bean for hours and hours? I also agree with other reviewers that there is a lot of repetition in the book and I was highly disappointed with the lack of general information on using slow cookers as we just received our first one this year. However I did give it one more star rating than I normally would give a cookbook that relies so heavily on canned items in that there are plenty of recipes that I'll be able to use for work carry-ins and no one will complain about the use of cans or frozen food. In addition, being decent cooks anyway we'll be able to take the gist of the recipes and just do our own thing so it does have some value as a guidebook through the work of slowcookers.
Rating: Summary: A big disappointment Review: Too much reliance on canned soup and processed foods. A big disappointment!
