Summary: Rose ,you are the best!!
Review: This wonderfull encyclopedia of information about cakes is so entertaining and informative. The recipies are easy to follow, explaining how and why ingredients interact. I've had perfect results every time and the people I've made the cakes for have all raved about how good they are. I highly recommend this truly great volume to everyone who wants to make delicious and beautifull cakes and wants also to understand how it is all happening. Rose lets anyone become a master baker in a step by step proceedure. I especially like the 3 option method of measuring ingredients. Congratulations Rose!! You are the best! Sincerely, John Speagle Vancouver,Canada

Summary: Absolutely Fabulous
Review: This is the best cake book in the world. There are an abundance of recipes which taste fancy but are easy to make in addition to the super-fancy cakes you could make for somebody's wedding.

This is not a book of your average, run-of-the mill cakes for somebody who actually *likes* to eat boxed mixes. I personally think boxed mixes are *disgusting* and I would rather eat mud than one of those. These cakes are *meant* to be MANY steps above that. If you want cakes like the usual box-type or supermarket quality cakes, this is not the book.

I have made the Chocolate Domingo Cake, which is amazing because when you make it, it looks a little dry and uninteresting, but when you serve it warm with a dusting of powdered sugar, it melts in your mouth like fudge and leaves you begging for more. I have received so many compliments on it! I have also received many compliments on the Cordon Rose Cheesecake with White Chocolate Cream Cheese Buttercream frosting, which, especially if left in the fridge for a few days, is the best cheesecake in the world... but again, not for somebody who thinks that Jell-o cheesecakes are the greatest. On the spur of the moment I made the Buttermilk Country Cake last weekend for some guests and they were begging me for seconds and the recipe.

Summary: The most incredible cakes you will ever make!
Review: I have had this book for about three months and have already tried many of the recipes. Rose's cakes (especially the chocolate varieties) are the greatest and her attention to detail and creativity make all of the recipes exceptional. My friends and family are fans too!

Summary: A cut above
Review: This is a superb book in all respects. For a long time I'd held off buying this book, thinking, how many cakes do I make in a year -- maybe two? But I am so glad I got this. You can read it and learn a lot about baking. Maida Heatter in the Intro says this is a book in which she wanted to make every recipe, and I have a feeling that is just what I will do myself. Hurrah, I'm a fan!

Summary: Fantastic!
Review: I love this book! I'm only 14 and I friend and I were able to take the Chocolate Cloud Roll recipe and complete it almost all by ourselves! It didn't turn out looking perfect but it was delicious. If you're a novice baker looking for professional-esque recipes this is the book for you! And I'm positive it's just as great a read for any experienced bakers out there! :)

Summary: From a prof baker/culinary grad:The absolute BEST cake book!
Review: I have read the only two non-glowing reviews of this book and can only summize that neither can bake beyond the box cake! I have made dozens of her cakes (chocolate too) for special ocassions, weddings, etc. Rose gives perfect instructions to those willing to read. She explains the structure of each cake for the novice/intermediate baker. I love the way all ingredients are broken down by weight as well as measurement. (Those who prefer to weigh their ingredients will love this feature) I own two copies! One already has several pages falling out from heavy use!

Summary: Only for those who love to cook!
Review: This book is not for the faint-hearted! I absolutely love all the details she gives for the perfectly beautiful and delicious cake. However, if you are more of a "Pillsbury cake" cook, this book is not for you. It takes several hours of patience and meticulous work to achieve the perfection she describes. For me, I love to cook and don't mind spending a lot of time in the kitchen preparing for a fancy dinner -- and her cakes have always been the hit of the party!

Summary: Also had a chocolate cake from this recipe BOMB.
Review: I had the same experience as the reader from California who made some awful chocolate cakes from this book. I too could not believe it when I followed the instructions to a T, using expensive Dutch process cocoa and *tons* of butter, and wound up with a heavy, dry cake! On one occasion, my son's birthday, I rushed to the store and bought a Pillsbury cake mix on sale for $.79. Whipped it up, added canned frosting...and got tons of compliments on it.

Still, I'm willing to give this book another shot...it must have some redeeming recipes!

Summary: Excelent book but lacks of illustrations
Review: I have read this book and I must say that it is an excelent book but it has not so many illustrations. Perhaps the editor should have put more photos of each cake in the book. On the other hand, it has many many advices to follow to get success on cooking.
