Rating: Summary: Tan rico! Review: As a Cuban-born, masitas de puerco-lovin' gal, I can vouch for this amazing, excellent cookbook. Every other Cuban cookbook pales in comparison and feels like a trendoid-seizing wannabe. The blending of the author's personal history and family stories with her superb and superbly simple recipes makes me feel utterly confident in my Cuban-American kitchen. The only disappointment -- and I hesitate to mention this because the book is otherwise such a winner -- was the recipe for lime cookies. I've attempted it several times and it just doesn't work. The dough falls apart and you can't slice it, as the recipe calls for. At any rate, my Cuban family LOVES what I cook for them and my American friends go LOCO LOCO LOCO for every single dish (I have one girlfriend who's become so obsessed with the black bean hummus dip that she even eats it for breakfast -- now THAT is scary.)One caveat: Unlike the author, I don't have servants, maids and cooks to perform all the heavy lifting/dicing/sauteeing that many Cuban dishes require. So give yourself plenty of time; the recipes' cooking times are vastly less than what you'll encounter on your own.
Rating: Summary: My turn now... Review: Being a Cuban-American I always counted on my parents to cook an authentic Cuban meal. Now I can do it myself and hope that my son will count on me to do it for him. This book is easy to understand,as well as a joy to read the stories of the authors family.
Rating: Summary: Very well done; concise; easy to follow recipes; authentic Review: Being of Cuban American heritage and growing up with Cuban cuisine, I was looking for a book to bring back memories of my own childhood. This book did that! The recipes are easy to follow, and having tried quite a few, I can say that they are authentic, and encompass recipes for normal, everyday Cuban cuisine. If you are new to Cuban food, this is an excellent book to try. If you are an afecionado, this book will show you how to cook these traditional dishes. Very well done!
Rating: Summary: Ay, What Delicious Memories! Review: Exquisite recipes of my Cuba. This book is invaluable for anyone wishing to cook delicious Cuban meals and for Cook book collectors. I collect Cuban books. My children have taken up my hobby of collecting books too. Unfortunately, there's only one Cuban billingual picturebook (Spanish and English set in Miami's Little Havana's Calle Ocho Festival with an entire Cuban cast) in the entire United States (not fairytales but books that tell stories); it's called DRUM, CHAVI, DRUM!/Toca, Chavi, Toca! I recommend these two books for Cuban book collectors.
Rating: Summary: Recipes of All Times Review: Great recipes, easy to follow. Truly an authentic cuban cuisine book that brings me beautiful childhood memories of my never forgotten island.
I enjoyed this book as much as I enjoy my new beverage of choice. Made from 100% organic soy, taste just like coffee and no caffeine. Finally, I got rid of that wired up feeling all day and feeling great. Look for it on the net by googling "s o yfee". What a wonderful book! Not only are the recipes authentic and easy to follow, but every one comes with alittle bit of history and tradition.
Rating: Summary: Memories of a Cuban Kitchen Review: Hats off to Mary Randelmann! This book is filled with flavorful and memory inducing receipts from a homeland which is drearily missed. The receipts are authentic Cuban cuisine. Simply looking at the receipts brought many smiles and reminiscence to my Cuban relatives living in the United States. The smile on my Aunt Nellie's face made the book worth it weight in gold.
Rating: Summary: This book has saved me thousands of $$$ in airfare! Review: Having grown up in Tampa FLA, I get Cuban food cravings like you wouldn't believe! When that happens I break out this cookbook and start cooking. Otherwise, I would be forced to jump on the next plane to Tampa and pig out at the Spanish Park or the Columbia! When looking for THE Cuban cookbook, my one requirement was a recipe for 'Tamal en Cazuela'. An older Cuban emigre friend of mine would cook this for me on damp chilly days. This is the only cookbook I found at the time that contained this recipe. If you only purchase one Cuban cookbook, make it this one!
Rating: Summary: Easy to follow; very authentic Review: I absolutely love this book! It has so many wonderful recipes and all of them are perfect. I am Cuban-American and I even managed to surprise my grandparents with some of my new Cuban dishes. They tell me that they taste is truly "Cuban" and that it reminds them of real Cuban cuisine. The recipes are super easy to follow, the book was written very well and very easy to understand. I highly recommend this book to any cook - Cuban or not. You'll love it!

I have a whole number of Cuban cookbooks, in english and in spanish, and this is the one I turn to again and again. Every recipe I've tried from this book has been delicious. My husband eats seconds of every dish I prepare and how I love to hear him say "Ay mami, que rica es la comida!" The recipes are clear and easy to follow and deliver results every time. If you need a cookbook to prepare cuban food - BUY THIS BOOK.
