Rating: Summary: Good ol Emeril Review: I love cooking. It is a true hobby for me. Nothing is more fun than getting together a few friends and putting on a dinner party. As a result, I have bought a lot of cookbooks. Knowing this, some friends have given me some of Emerils books. I have seen him on TV, but never really caught on to what was so special about him. I have tried his recipes from his books. some have turned out okay, but none were 'out of this world'. What I have found is that Emeril does like to have fun with his cooking. That is great. But I have to disagree that his cooking 'aint rocket science here'. His recipes can be very time consuming and expensive. They are not for the average or novice cook. For people who love cooking, I would recommend other cookbooks that have easier to follow recipes, more pictures of the food itself, and far less self-promotion.
Rating: Summary: Emeril's TV Dinners Review: I love Emeril.....but, this cook book contained many complicated recipes and was a bit hard to follow. I assumed (and you know what they say about assuming)by the title that these recipes would be everyday meals, but they aren't. If you are looking for "special recipes" for a "special day" then you'll have it with this book. IT'S A GREAT BOOK, but not you're everyday meal type of book. I'm still glad to have it in my collection.
Rating: Summary: Not Impressed Review: I purchased this book because I love to cook Emeril's recipes...but was very disappointed. I love to see photos of the food I am going to make, rather than photos of the chef and people I do not know. I also did not like the layout of the book, for example he would put a title of a dish and talk about it on one page, and have the recipe on the next page. I think out of the entire book I will probably make 4 dishes. I would not spend my money on it, but would download his recipes from the Food TV website instead.
Rating: Summary: Fun & Enjoyable to Read Review: I tend to think Emeril's books get a lot of low rated reviews because people seem to either love or hate the guy. I've always looked at Emeril as an entertainer first as opposed to a chef whose receipes I'm going to run out tomorrow and try to make. While the title of this book may lead to the belief that these these may be recipes related to those things that camein aluminum tins. The TV refers to his TV show as he presents 150 recipes from his year on the Food network.
There are some very exotic dishes to be found in the pages of this book. Things like Creole Spiced Blue Crabs with Green Onion Dipping Sauce and Rock Shrimp Stuffed Flounder,or Emeril's Potato Truffle Charlotte. From Fall River, MA to New Orleans you get 150 classic recipes. Whether its Cajun or dishes inspired by his Portugese heritage, there's quite a diversified set of recipes to be found here, all with Emerils enjoyable way of presenting them in a fun an entertaining way.
Honestly I will never make most of these dishes. It's just a blast to read. As I said I love wathcing and reading Emeril with his knowledge about food and cooking.
Rating: Summary: Fun to read, a good biscuit recipe but not for everyone Review: I think Emeril is a hoot; we use the term "Kick it up a notch" at home for just about anything and get a real laugh every time we say it. I think Emeril Lagasse makes it clear that cooking is fun, an art and a way to express yourself. He doesn't give cup and tablespoon amounts on his show when he cooks, so this book is useful to see what might go into some of the dishes he's created. So you get his biscuit recipe here, where measurements are critical to success. And are they nice and light! This is now my favorite biscuit recipe because I never could get them fluffy rather than heavy and flakey. You do have to read these recipes carefully; the goat cheese and leek cake attracted me because I love both these ingredients. However, it's listed as vegetarian but contains a LOT of bacon! Hahaha! Since when are pigs vegetables? (there are vegetarian substitutes for bacon, but I'll bet Emeril wouldn't touch them with a 10-foot pepper grinder!) There's plenty of his unique wit in the book, so it's fun to read. This is not most useful cookbook I own, but for a few recipes, it is unsurpassed ....
Rating: Summary: tv dinners Review: I think that this is the weak link in the series of books that Emeril has put out. It's great that he wants to share with all of his fans the behind the scenes pics of his show. However, the quality of the recipes suffers because of it. There are just too many pictures and not enough food. I felt cheated after I spent some time digging through it. I still love Emeril, but I really was dissappointed with the results of this book. It's just not worth the money spent.
Rating: Summary: Does Not Kick It Up A Notch For Me Review: I was frankly quite disappointed with this cookbook as it seemed more about Emeril than it was his food. I found the chapter breakdown difficult to follow, and the few recipes I tried were adequate at best. As [an] Italian Food Host.., I have over 300 cookbooks in my collection, and this is one of the few I am sorry I bought. Unless you are a huge fan of Emeril's, I'd advise you not to waste your money on this book.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Conversion to Print from TV Review: I was gladdened to see how well Emeril's cooking transferred so smoothly from television to this wonderful little book. The tang of both his recipes and his humor is not to be missed. An advantage to working from the book is apparent when you see Emerial cooking on TV: he wears no sort of hair restraint, such as a chef's hat or a net, so it's always possible some of his hair has fallen into the food. That will not happen if you are reading this book. Emeril should wear a hair net, to prevent his food from being kicked a notch in the wrong direction. Buy this, cook and enjoy !

Rating: Summary: Love Emeril, like the book Review: I've been a huge fan of Emeril ever since his "How To Boil Water" show on FoodTV. I like the big flavors, and I think he's really creative. This cookbook offers a number of good recipes--I especially like the rock shrimp stuffed filet, the provencal fish stew, and roasted eggplan & garlic soup. As is typical of Emeril, some of these recipes are pretty straightforward (dirty black eye peas) and some are more elaborate and unlikely to attempted that often by most of us (potato crusted lobster tails on a bed of crawfish mashed potatoes). There *are* a lot of pictures in this book--of Emeril, not the food--and much of it is written in Emeril's folksy voice. I can see why that would annoy people. Sure, he's got a cult following, and yes, it's because he does dopey stuff on TV and he's got his tag phrases and all that. I still think his recipes are excellent. The reason I'm not more enthusiastic about this book is that it's rather thin (about 250 pp.). I didn't count the recipes, but it just doesn't feel like there are enough to justify the ...price tag. If you can pick up a copy on the cheap and you like Emeril's style of food, by all means get it, but this cookbook is not a must-have, even for fans. Bear in mind, there are a ton of Emeril's recipes that you can download directly from FoodTV.com. Bam!
