Summary: once a month cooking
Review: While the actual preparation time takes longer than suggested in the book, the time invested is well worth the outcome. Portion sizes are adequate for a family of 3-4. My family has been very pleased with the taste of the dinners. We have used this method in conjunction with the food saver vacu seal and have been very pleased with the freezing process. This technique/process allows us to freeze/thaw and in many cases microwave or boil the contents for rapid presentation.

Summary: I'm a born-again Mom thanks to this book!
Review: The best book I've ever bought! It really works! The book is oriented around families and is meant to help you rediscover family dinners. My kids are in sports 3 days a week and even trying to rush home from work and fix dinner in time to get my son off to practice by 6, we all have time to sit down together. The hardest part is remembering to thaw something the night before - but even then many of the recipes can be thawed in the microwave and eaten right away. My husband, usually critical of my cooking, has enjoyed every dish we've made so far. And one benefit the writers don't mention is that my kids helped me cook adding to our quality time together. While the two week plan actually required a day and a half to cook, it's lasted our family of four 4 weeks and we only eat out one day a week! (I divided some recipes into smaller containers). This is the best book you'll ever buy!

Summary: An end to the madness
Review: I just got my book a little while ago but it is wonderful. Written in a way that you do not have to have a degree in cooking to understand what they say to do. Very well organized and thorough. I substituted a few of my families favorite recipes for some of hers but the methodology is what is ingenious. Need to mention that the meals are the entree only...you will still have to cook up the rest of the meal but the entree is the hard part..right? One note. The web site listed for the software for this book is no longer making the software. You have to call a place called The Cookbook Collection located in Missouri. The number I received from the site was 816-322-2122.

Summary: A great asset for any kitchen
Review: I purchased the book at the beginning of the year and have used both 30-day meal plans and one of the two-week plans. The food is good and easy to prepare. My husband and I are at the point where we will be creating our own menu plans but most of the recipes will be from this book. I live in the Northern Virginia area and it was a great thrill to buy all I needed for the second 30-day plan and only spend $170. Not bad for 30 dinners!

Summary: Once-a-month Cooking
Review: The book is a great idea but there are some flaws with the shopping list and the ingredients that are actually in the recipe. Also, some of the recipes don't make sense in regards to the cooking day assembly schedule. Also, be aware that they say it takes only 4-5 hours of cooking for the 2 week meal plans, but in reality it is more like 8 hours. There is satisifaction having meals (main course only) ahead of time but the work is a big task. Be prepared for getting very thirsty during your massive cooking day. Have been too afraid to try the one month plan.

Summary: Once a Month Cooking
Review: I have the first edition of this cookbook and Table Talk. I used this method for about three years and was really pleased to get thru the day and have a meal prepared. I have five children and run a home daycare.

I still use the once a month cooking method and use my own recipes as well. My family loves the "twice baked potatoes" and many other recipes.

It is well worth the time invested to have meals ready to go. I am anxious to view a copy of the newest edition for more exciting recipes that my family will eat. Thanks Mimi and Mary Beth.

Summary: Very helpful
Review: I looked at several once-a-month cooking books before I decided on this one. It has good recipes with a lot of variety. The biggest help is the compiled grocery list and the step-by-step guide to cooking day.

My husband and I are both in graduate school so we usually don't have much time to cook. With one day of cooking, we have a freezer full of good and easy dinners. I used a 2 week menu plan and divided each dish into two for two servings each instead of 4.

Summary: HARD WORK- but worrth it!
Review: This book has a wonderful process for organizing your shopping/dinners for a month. The recipes are both traditional and unique, My family just wonders what wonderful surprise I will pull out next. This is truly a way for the working Mom, or for those like myself- who work at home - to get rid of the "pizza man", Taco Bell, and McDonalds! I have more time, we eat better, and we definately have more quality family time at dinner- and cleanup is a breeze. The recipes do not get old and do not taste the same or boreing. Great Job!

Summary: not real impressed
Review: I do not recommend this book. Lots of repeated recipes, space that could have been used for a little more variety. The only reason I am giving it two stars instead of one is for it's information on freezing food. I wasted my money!

Summary: This book made me a believer!
Review: I am not a fan of cooking at all and I have a friend I used to work with who mentioned the idea of cooking ahead to me a few years ago. I stumbled across the book on Amazon.com and I thought I would check it out from the library to "test" it first - I did not believe that any book would make my life easier. I have two children two and under and my husband is taking night classes - life is very hectic and dinner was always the hardest time of day because everyone is tired, the children are cranky, decisions have to be made about what to make, perhaps I then had to go to the store (as you can see we are not the plan ahead types!) This book has changed our lives! I love that someone else has mapped out for me what to buy, prepare, cook and freeze! It is still a challenge to find time to cook ahead, and generally I have to split up my cooking time - because "no interruptions" doesn't occur for moms. I feel so proud of my planning and my cooking. The recipes are easy to follow and they are good, wholesome, non-exotic(you can actually find all the ingredients at your local grocery store!) meals that my family likes. My skepticism is gone and I am buying the book today - my library copy has been returned! This will have a permanent place in my kitchen. Make life easier for yourself. Let this book make dinner decisions for you.
