Rating: Summary: woo! how it all vegan! Review: About a month ago I made the switch from vegetarian to vegan, I was looking around Amazon.Com for a good vegan cook book. I was able to find one. I haven't come close to making all the recipes yet, but they all sound delicious. If your new to being vegan, or you've been vegan for a while and just want some awesome recipes well this is the book for you.
Rating: Summary: A new world Review: I saw the authors of this book demonstrate their recipes at the Louisville EarthSave tasting event in 2002. I was amazed at how simple it was to prepare the recipes and how good everything tasted. I always classified myself as somebody who NEVER cooks, but I thought I would give this book a try. I have made at least 75% of the recipes, and many of them several times. They are all SIMPLE and delicious. For someone like me who is lactose intolerant and cannot stomach much meat, this opened up a whole new world of possibilities! I have now tried out 3 other vegan or vegetarian cookbooks and none compare to this one both in terms of taste and simplicity. My husband can always guess which recipes came out of this book versus the other books. For tasty, simple, vegan dishes, I highly recommend this book!
Rating: Summary: this is an incredible cook book!! Review: I just became vegan (after 7 years of being a vegetarian). I thought the transition would be difficult, but it has been INCREDIBLY FUN. I think a lot of the reason is that i have this book. I have made some incredibly tasty fun food and am enjoying the hell out of this book. My roommates (who eat all animal products) are raving about my cooking. I can't recommend this book more highly. I own four vegan cookbooks and this is my favorite. The best part about this book is that it is practical and gives great advice based on daily life. For example, many recipes call for "anything goes vegetables" where you add vegetables (from a certain list they provide) that will work. This is extremely practical if you want to whip something up without going to the store first and you have options already at home. Also, many recipes suggest "this is a great one if you have leftover rice" etc. I am learning not only how to make great food, but also to be efficient and stretch my groceries farther as well. this is a great book for any beginner or expert in veganism. You WILL NOT miss dairy in these recipes. They are OUTSTANDING.
Rating: Summary: I can't believe I went so long without this book! Review: I was a vegan for a year and a half before I bought this cookbook and I must say that I wish I'd owned it sooner! I didn't even really like cooking until I got this book. The recipes are easy to follow, fairly quick (although some desserts need to be chilled overnight), and use ingredients you can pick up at the grocery store. Plus, they are delicious! My boyfriend is an omnivore and he likes the recipes I've tried so far. It's not necessarily gourmet, but it's not just spaghetti, either. I also like that this cookbook covers a wide range -- entrees, salads, soups, veggie burgers, drinks, condiments, breads, desserts, snacks for kids (or for adults, too), even "recipes" for homemade vegan household cleaners or lip gloss. There's also a very helpful list of animal-derived ingredients and plant-based substitutions. I would recommend this cookbook to omnivorous types who want to try out a few vegan recipes as well as new and old vegans.
Rating: Summary: Yummy Review: I have not cooked many things from this cookbook yet, but I plan to try them ALL! The brownies that I cooked tasted very delicious, although they were less chocolatey and more cakey than conventional brownies. The book is very fun to look at and it has a lot of good ideas for making your own lip balms, lotions, and other vegan non-food things. I also loved the kids' section of the cookbook, with easy recipies for goodies such as ants on a log, and fart sandwiches (bean sandwiches)! There is a very fun section with pet treats, as well. I would definately recommend this book to any new or experienced vegan. Overall, this cookbook recieved 4 stars because although the food was really good, if you are looking for ultra-conventional vegan versions of food, this is probably not the book for you. If you enjoy original and unique recipies, get out that credit card and order this cookbook!!!
Rating: Summary: Great Tasting Food Review: I recently turned vegan and my husband is not, but we both agree that the recipes in this book taste wonderful! He has a big appetite and picky tastebuds, but he can still get full and satisfied on the vegan entrees and loves the flavors of the food. Every recipe I have tried has turned out fabulous and tasted better than non-vegan food. I think because the recipes mostly use fresh ingredients, with the occasional canned or frozen food. Also, the recipes are not that time-consuming with a food processor to aid with the chopping of vegetables. This is the first vegan cookbook I purchased, and it is more than worth it.
Rating: Summary: How it all vegan for me.... Review: I think this is an excellent book explaining the realm of the vegan world. It's fun, eyecatching, and extremely informative, whether you are a vegan, a vegetarian, carnivorous, or vegan-curious. I gave copies as gifts to non-vegheads, including my 70-something mother, and they all found this book facinating. The glossary terms section, titled "Vegan No-Nos" taught me a lot regarding many ingredients and products out there and how they are made or are originated. The household hints, recipes, and uses for vinegar sections are a must for every household. I think that I have made more copies from this book than any other cookbook in my cookbook owning career. Many vegetarian and vegan cookbooks tend to carry the same recipes over and over again, but this book takes on many new ideas, new twists, and things that strike your curiousity, including a chocolate cake (or carob - I made both versions) that uses vinegar in the recipe. How It All Vegan - try it, you'll like it.
Rating: Summary: One of the best vegan books I've used Review: This is a great cook book. The recipes I've tried are delicious. This book uses easy to find ingredients, and makes food that the everyday person would eat.
Rating: Summary: Converting me again! Review: I bought this book recently to help my stepdaughter, who has just made the choice to go vegan....I was a vegan for several years, but let it go by the wayside (why, oh, why!). Well, after reading this book, I have decided to go back. The recipes are clear, simple and use ingredients I can find in the health food section of my local grocery store. The chapter on kids is terrific. My husband hasn't noticed the lack of meat or dairy, and my stomach problems are already getting better. Loved the style in which they wrote this book! I feel as though I know Sarah and Tanya... I would recommend this book to anyone who is a vegan, thinking about becoming a vegan, or even anyone who just likes to cook in a healthy way and likes to try new recipes!
Rating: Summary: Love at first sight Review: I first encountered this book at my local library, where I was browsing for some cool vegetarian cookbooks, so I could add some `zest` to my food. When I came across it I immeddiatly fell in love with it. I renewed it from the libray every 2weeks or so, until I recived some borders gift cards for my birthday. I immediatly came on and bought this way cool book. It is a must have for anyone even vaugely considering the vegetarian/vegan lifestyle. From homemade soy milk to 45 uses for vinegar, this book RULES!
