Rating: Summary: A WORK OF ART-LUCILLE'S TRUE FEELINGS Review: LUCILLE BALL DID (AND STILL DOES)EVERYTHING TO PLEASE HER FANS-EVEN AFTER SHE DIED.IT'S ALMOST AS IF YOU ARE TALKING TO HER FACE TO FACE AS YOU HEAR HER SIDE OF THE STORY,IN HER OWN WORDS,ABOUT EVERYTHING.FROM HEARTACHE TO HEARTY LAUGHTER THIS BOOK IS A MUST FOR ANY LUCILLE BALL FAN
Rating: Summary: I LOVED Love, Lucy!! Review: As a kid, I always loved I Love Lucy. So when I heard her autobiography had been found after her death, well, I had to read it. If you want to know the "real" Lucy, read this book. Her voice definitely comes through, it was as though she were speaking to me as a friend. It is a very poignant and honest book peppered with wonderful "Lucy" antedotes that made me laugh out loud (and sometimes cry). Too bad this gem didn't get found sooner
Rating: Summary: A wonderful book, you can hear Lucy's voice in every word! Review: I discovered this book in the back of a bookstore. Once I picked it up I couldn't put it down. I finished the book in a matter of hours. It was wonderfully written. Every word in the book has a hint of Lucille in it. A person could actually hear her voice and hear her speak like Desi. It was a personal look at the woman and her work. Of all the stories written about her this was absloutly the best book about her I have ever read. If you are a true Lucy fan and you can only read one book this is the one! You get personal information first hand from the dizzy redhead herself. I felt that Lucy did autograph this book for me, wrote it for me knowing that I would come around one day to read about her
Rating: Summary: Lucy the Lady with no "splan'n to do" Review: I truly enjoyed this book, as did my 88 year old grandmother and 66 year old aunt. Lucy has always been like a favorite family member. This book makes you feel like she is speaking in her own words and we are so glad her family decided to publish it. Contrasted againsted The Book by Desi Arnez, made it even more interesting. This book gave personal insight to the struggles Lucy faced in her childhood, an endurance driven by the need to be loved, and her strong work ethic. Far less juicy and business detail oriented than The Book, it mirrors the same respect and love Lucy and Desi shared even after they divorced. Lucy was a true lady. It did not take much reading between the lines to see she was mindful of Desi's feelings and privacy while telling her story.
Rating: Summary: A Touching Autobiograppy - I Read It Three Times Review: This book, without a ghost writer, was taken from a munuscript composed by Lucy herself in 1966 and not discovered until several years after her death. That's the best feature of the book - you feel as though Lucy is sitting in front of you, recounting her life. Those looking for juicy, dirty gossip had better look elsewhere; Lucy was far too classy for that. Without getting into unnecessarily sordid, perhaps lewd details, characterstic of many divorces, she reveals the causes of her divorce from her dreamboat, Desi Arnaz. Her use of the English language, including her vocabulary and grammar belie the image of the scatter brained, mischievous bubbleheaded characters portrayed during her tremendous career, especially the I Love Lucy show. Lucy was indeed a very astute, insightful lady, equally at home in a luxurious ballroom gown and a hobo's costume. She could certainly do it all. In her own words, she was not easily taken in by others. It showed in this book. I would heartily recommend to any fan of the great T.V. legend, Lucille Ball. A bargain at three times the price
Rating: Summary: A "Politically Correct" Autobiography Review: I saw the TV movie "Lucy" on CBS and loved it. When I found this book, I figured it would be like the movie, so I bought it. It is NOTHING like the movie! The movie barely tells you 1/4 of the stuff Lucy tells you in her book. Plus, the movie shows her being in a play in her hometown before she went into modeling. In the book, she develops rheumatoid arthritis and is sent home for a while, heals, and then does the play. I give the book 5/5 and the movie 4.5/5.
