Rating: Summary: When I heard of this book I knew I had to have it Review: I took one look at this book and I was hooked. I read it all the same night I got. The pictures are very fascinating, they captured so much of the fairy lore children only dream about. It is a very witty diary with complimenting artwork that represent the pressed fairies captured by Angelica cottington. If you don't already believe in fairies this book may bring back the hope in believing once more. But according to this book fairies are not as nice as some may think. In fact here they are quite devious and maliscious. Children may find the goblin images a little unerving.
Rating: Summary: WHAT A BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: It wasn't long ago I stumbled upon this book at flea market, I thumbed through it quickly, sat it aside and went to find my daughter. We ended up leaving the market (without) the book, and for the next week, EVERYDAY, this book CONSUMED my every thought (yes, I am slightly exagerating the "every thought" bit, but not by much!)To make my point, I couldn't wait until the next weekend so I could go back (with prayers said, I know I know, God isn't a santa claus, but I said them anyway) and get my "SQUASHED" Faery book. I was the first one there that day, and it was still there:) I bought it, and walked, rather I skipped through the market (my daughter was mortified that her 38 year old mother was grinning from ear to ear, and skipping through the flea market with her faery book) I sat in the car pouring over the book, reading it from front to back before ever leaving the parking lot. I was so enamoured with the work of Brian Froud in Lady Cottington's Pressed Faery Book, that I went to the book store to find the Good Faery/Bad Faery Book which is a magnificent book in it's self. The two books are totally different in reading as well as photographs, but they are equally as wonderful. I absoultly LOVE them both!! If you have never seen the pressed faery book, you MUST take a look, then buy, it is one you don't want to miss.
Rating: Summary: What a wonderful read......and great present idea!!!!! Review: I was given this book as a present from a co-worker. And a wonderful present it was. A strange and delightful book. Lady Cottington is hilarious as you read the mind of a small girl who is bothered by the local faeries....so she "squishes" them in her book. Well with faerie folk being mischievious they turn it in to a contest...who can leave the best "impression" in the book as you read on in the book the faeries get more daring. I especially loved the "sealed" section in the back. After recieving this book I became an instant Froud fan
Rating: Summary: a wonderful introduction to Froud Review: This was the first Brian Froud book I'd ever seen, read, and owned, long before I knew who Brian Froud and Terry Jones were (legendary fantasy artist who contributed to the Dark Crystal and Labyrinth, and Monty Python member, respectively). Later, I rediscovered it when cleaning bookshelves and knew who the pair were and enjoyed it just as much as I did before, then being old enough to appreciate even more of the humor. The sequel to this, the Lady Cottington Album, has more of a story to it but isn't as funny. This one, however, features everything from fairy-bottoms to a guest appearance by the infamous Aleister Crowley. Buy it, read it, buy copies for your friends, send copies anonymously to Pat Robertson... it's that good.
Rating: Summary: Very Clever and Amusing work from Terry Jones Review: Feministic mania, I suppose, and is reading too much into things. I liken this book, to a small degree, to something Terry Gilliam might contrive. Not exactly, but there's a flavor there. This definitely has a mature Monty Python flavor to it, as all of the former players have gone onto more intellectual, literary pursuits. I found it clever, amusing and rather entertaining.
Rating: Summary: You never know what lurks behind a pretty bookcover... Review: I rate this book 1 Star solely because it is THANKFULLY a very fast read! I received this book as a gift, had never heard of it and naively assumed it was a sweet story about pretty little sprites like Tinkerbell! In reality it is a Victorian era girl's "diary" about "faeries" who she contends are all the blame for her infered sexual dallinces. I found nothing amusing between the pages- either handwriten or "pressed"! The hideous drawings of flattened faeries must represent her repulsion of her own sexuality, men and love. That's all I got out of this book! On behalf of all beautiful angelic faced sprites, the only kind that truly exist of course,I not only condemn this book but most certainly would never recommend it for young readers- or anyone of any age for that matter! I suggest using it to stoke up a fire on a cold winter's night!
Rating: Summary: what a extrodinary book!!! Review: if you are a fairy lover, admirer of Brian Froud's work, or simply interested in fairies, you MUST buy this book. I've wanted it for a while, and just got it today, and i was absolutely thrilled. It was worth every penny; i truly felt like i was reading someone's real journal. Froud captures the fairies emotions perfectly, i can't imagine it being done any better. This book is about a girl ageing from aprox 9 to 20 something. It is her journal where she "pressed" fairies, sitting outside her potting shed, book open, waiting for an unsuspecting fairy to land, and then she'd SMACK it shut, capturing the fairy inside. Terry Jones did a beautiful job writing this, and the artwork is amazing. i can't stress enough how wonderful this book is, and i HIGHLY recommend that you buy it now. although i warn you it is not for young children, it contains slightly sexual material inside, it was decent enough for me (a 15-year-old) to read
Rating: Summary: Enchanting! Review: The first time you open this book it is like you are transported into another world. Aside from the storyline, the illustrations are otherworldly. It really appears as if the faeries have been squished between the pages. I first saw this book my junior year of high school and have been serching for it since! I looked for this book everywhere and Amazon was the only one able to find it! DEFINITE recommendation! Brian Froud brings them to life!
Rating: Summary: Funny, enchanting, suprising! Review: What an excellent book! This book is witty, and enchanting, not to mention having most brilliant, beautiful, hillarious artwork by Brian Froud. Highly reccomended if you can stand a laugh, likes faeries, and is ages 13 and over. The pressed fairies in this are NOT REAL!!!!! I do not reccomend this book for very young children, its not a bedtime story. I also dont reccomend this book if you dislike faeries and comedy. If this book shall be rated, it would be PG-13 For slight sexual content, and nudity.
Rating: Summary: I LOVE THIS BOOK Review: the first time I saw this book was online, in an msn community. a lady was posting the story on the message boards, I fell in love with it. The pictures are great, I love the story, this will be a book that I will treasure and I hope my kids will to for a long time. It is an enchanting tale, well illustated, and all around just great!!!! this is a must have for the fae lover, and nonfae lover alike, if not for the priceless pics, then for the adorable story line.
