Summary: Faeries Beware!
Review: Brian Froud is my favorite fantasy illustrator to start with. I fell in love with his book 'Faeries' back in the 70's...I am very fond of the work of his co-illustrator on that project, Alan Lee, as well. But pair Brian's brilliant art with the writing of ex Monty Pythoner Terry Jones and the result is a hilarious book that actually had me laughing out loud. Brian's lovely watercolors of shocked looking faeries (I was lucky enough to see some of his original work for the following book "Strange Stains and Mysterious Smells" this summer) pressed between the pages of the spirited Miss Cottington's journal like hapless wildflowers is just too much...and the Lady's description of the events leading up to each...er...pressing make for a thoroughly enjoyable romp. While definately not for small kids, I recommend it to anyone with a slightly grim sense of humor and a love of fantasy.

Summary: OUT OF THIS WORLD!
Review: Lady Cottington's Pressed Fairy Book, is the most amazing book you will ever read. The pictures are most excellent and the story is extremely fascinating. I have enjoyed fairies for some time now and have read many books on them! This is by far my favorite. This is a book that anyone can sit and enjoy for hours upon end!

Summary: Very "Snappy" Humour
Review: One of my clients knows that I love fairies and loaned me this book, with a mischievous grin on her face. Well, now I know why! What a devilish little mind the author had! The illustrations are gorgeous. I loved the personalities of the gremlins, elves and pixies. I savored the colors, the facial expressions, and the disheveled rumps and body parts all over the pages.

But I read something much more into the story I have heard nobody else mention in their reviews. I believe that Lady Cottington has squashed her own sexuality. The fairies coaxed her to dance and to lose her inhibitions, but she paid them no heed and died alone and unsexually fulfilled.

Summary: Could have been taken to greater length.
Review: At first I was all eager to get, and read this interesting book, but was however disappointed. I would say that it is too shallow, and Brian Froud's illustrations are not at all convincing since it kind of should look like 'actual' pressed fairies - in photorealistic style, and not pastel colored pixies. They could have done that, and certainly Froud is talented enough, but it does seem rushed. When you compare the quality of this book to 'Fairies' then the later is much better in illustration - knowing it is a different type of book. The idea of the book is a very good one, but it could have been better, however the story itself - all the little entries are funny though.

Summary: A funny book full of squashed fairies - with a grim result
Review: At first, it's really amusing to read all about a young English girl determined to catch all the faeries living about her home with her big scrapbook. But she evidently paid quite a high price for molesting such dangerous fabled creatures that can work evil magic on her as the text eventually revealed. So as Lady Cottington grew up, she began to attract alot of unwanted sexual advances and perhaps even rape from the most unsavory men ever to creep into her innocent young life as all the fairies all looked on and gloated merrily. And what is more, the unhappy victim ended up living out her life in complete seclusion - an unfunny story that has - quite ironically - a whole batch of bawdily funny pictures to go with it.

Summary: A deeply inspiring picture of a woman and her fairies.
Review: Through her journal entries we witness the coming of age of a classical Victorian lady. Her life is most remarkable for the numerous occasion of faires with which she often has contact. The stunning images frozen in time along with an insightful narrative of her life in her own words. Her life will touch and amaze you, and you will feel as if you've known her your entire life.

Review: Lady Cottington's Pressed Fairy Book, Is a warm-hearted story. It has lots of enjoyment in it. It is based on a TRUE story. Angelica catched fairies all of her life, and always leaves the book, behind a trunk in the attic. When she dies age 103, the house was sold to a Prestige Office Block and they found the book and made it into a story for millions of people to enjoy.
