Rating: Summary: A Stunning Faery Book Review: This is a wonderful, stunning, creative, unike, funny, and enchanting book. This beautifully illustrated book has actual entries by the young girl, telling mysterious acounters with the faeries, and her daily life. The pressed faeries are amazing and realistic, but are not real pressed faeries. This book also has a cute little window deco and the book comes in paper back, hard cover, large version, and the smaller version which are all beautifull. I reccomend this book to anyone who loves faeries, and who has an open mind to the excitence of faeries. I do not reccomend this book to anyone who is a little child looking for a appropriate faery book, for the faeries are squished ( with odd little expressions on their faces,) and their is a small bit of mild sexual content.
Rating: Summary: SMOOSH! Review: I found this book quite by accident and I must say that I'm very glad I did. What a delightful and whimsical tale! I recommend that everyone take some time to "BELIEVE" and cart themselves off to a young ladies world! Don't forget to dust your wings!
Rating: Summary: Two Stars for Cleverness But It's Not Funny to Press People! Review: I know this is not meant to be serious. I think this book is well done, clever with witty illustrations of "pressed" fairies unfortunate enough to have landed on the pages of Lady Cottington's scrap book. Lady Cottington's journal with her messy handwriting and poor spelling compliments the whole satire. The repurcussions she suffers as a result of her grisly habit of squishing fairies is a subtle warning to those other folk who enjoy the pressing of butterflies or the harpooning of them to cotton displays. So, having said that, and promising you that I do indeed have a sense of humor, I must confess that I did not like this book. Why? I did not like the imaginary notion of intentionally killing fairies. It's that simple. Holding a book in ones hand and turning page after page, makes the joke of a passing tongue-in-cheek idea too much in the now. It's not funny to press insects or fairies. Not many would consider making a funny little book about pressed babies or a silly little picture book about road kill. I know the point of the book is about insensitive people but insensitive people won't get the point anyway. There are lots funnier books out there, lots of better books on fairies, even better pseudo Victorian/Edwardian water color journals, so I suggest picking one of those instead.
Rating: Summary: A Small Objection Review: I think, perhaps, that faeries are better left unpressed?
Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: This book is great. I am a big fan of fairies, and this book is one of the best fairy tales I have ever read. The illustrations are beautiful(thinking of getting the cover as a tattoo)
Rating: Summary: For fairy fans only!! Review: As a fairy lover from a very early age I found this book irresistable. The pictures are beautiful and hilarious as they have both human and fairy-like qualities. However, funny as it is, I wouldn't recommend this to anybody who wasn't a diehard fairy fan as you probably won't understand it's charm. The writing is more of a fill in between the pictures that anything else and as a non-fairy loving friend put it "isn't it a kid's book?" You fairy people understand.
Rating: Summary: I read It in a day! Really good book. Review: It is really awesome. About a girl who instead of pressing flowers in her book, presses Faeries. It has colorful, lively, and somewhat sadistic pictures! I think it is cool how over the years her handwriting and spelling get better. It is a really funny book. Some people think it is not for kids but it is just fine for kids. I loved it and I am 13 years old.
Rating: Summary: Five Stars and Beyond! One of Brain Frounds Best Works! Review: This is one of the first Faery books i ever owned. I did not buy from here, but bought it in a used book store. Let me tell you, if you are a believer in faeries, this is a MUST-HAVE. "Lady Cottington's Pressed Fairy Book" is a delightful story of one Angelica Cottington who recives a blank book from her aunt, which was made for pressing flowers. But instead, she presses Fairies in them! The Fairies get their revenge and make Angelica flee to Italy. The images done but the talented Mr. Brian Froud are incrediable, as are all of his works. This really isnt a book for little children, because some of the images are quiet explicit, but i do recommend to get it for them when they reach an apporprite age.
Rating: Summary: Fairies at their Finest Review: This book is my most treasured book out of my fairie book collection. I read it to my girls every chance I get. You don't need a long review to tell you to buy the book...it speaks for itself with every turn of the page! Totally DELIGHTFUL!
Rating: Summary: Funny and Sweet Review: I read this book while I was in a play wating for my cue, it was so cute and funny I almost missed it!!! This book is one of the best picture books that I have ever read. But I would be wary of buying it for little children, it is not really suitable. It is great for a present or just for yourself!
