Rating: Summary: Charlie's Angels Casebook---A Truly Awesome Book! Review: When I first bought the Charlie's Angels Casebook, I had no idea that it would be so informative and have so many insights into that great television series from the 70's! There is a lot of behind the scenes stuff that I never knew about! Once I started reading this book I really had a hard time putting it down! There is a lot of nice pictures and an awesome in depth episode guide with a run down of each episode and followed by commentary from the authors. The authors Jack Condon and David Hofestede did a great job of putting this book together. In addition, there is a foreward by Jaclyn Smith. I give this book my highest recommendation and encourage everyone to buy a copy and check it out for yourself! I promise you will not be disappointed!
Rating: Summary: A must for all fans of the series Review: I had a lot of fun reading this book. A great deal of information of the series I was not aware of--And I'm a big fan, so it was very surprising to find out alot from people who worked on the series--behind and in front of the camera. The reviews of each episode were very entertaining--you might not always agree with it, but still very interesting. This is a fun read for anyone, but definitely a MUST for a fan of the series!Great job!

Rating: Summary: The Definitve Charlie's Angels Book Review: Charlie's Angels was the explosive breakout show of 1976. Everyone was watching the three Angels fight crime, but how much did you really know about what went on with this television show. Well here is your chance to find out. Everything you want to know about Charlie's Angels is in this book. I couldn't put this book down. Not only does it have background information on each of the actresses that played the Angels and inside info on what went on during each of the five seasons, but an extraordinarily informative episode guide, a Charlie's Angels collectible list, and a variety of pictures. Additionally, there is a list of the works each of these fabulous actresses have starred in. As if it couldn't get any better, the forward is written by Jaclyn Smith. I have been a Charlie's Angels fan since I watched the first episode. Learning about the show and the actresses who portrayed the Angels is a hobby of mine. Never have I learned more about the show and what went on behind the scenes, than I did after reading this book. Jack Condon and David Hofstede have created the definitive Charlie's Angels book. Anyone who is a Charlie's Angels fan or just wants to know more about the show must have this book. If you don't read THE CHARLIE'S ANGELS CASEBOOK you are missing out on a magnificent study of Charlie's Angels.
Rating: Summary: "...WHY, ...THEM NOSEY BROADS! ..." Review: The ABC-TV television series, "CHARLIE'S ANGELS," was a like a flame that burnt itself out, much sooner than it should have, due to its own brilliance and intensity. Unfortunately, like most groundbreaking and visionary works, regardless of the medium, "CHARLIE'S ANGELS," the prime-time series, became its own worst enemy, due to the evolution that came from trying to open the eyes of its detractors, instead of continuing on the course that had grabbed the imagination of a generation. "CHARLIE'S ANGELS CASEBOOK," is a magnificent chronicle of this once-in-a-lifetime, "right place at the right time" occurence. The authors have masterfully constructed a great historical documentation of the explosion of the show's immediate success, the unseen problems usually blamed on the stars, the strain put on the stars from working under a public "microscope," and the shifting in approach to keeping ratings that eventually led to the early demise of the show. Co-author Jack Condon is famous as the premiere "CHARLIE'S ANGELS" merchandise and memorobilia collector in the world; and, his research and knowledge contributed, from decades of passionate collecting, is the glue that holds the book of this American pop-culture epic together. Jaclyn Smith, always the "class act," magnanimously provides the foreword, reminding the reader to take the experience of "CHARLIE'S ANGELS" for exactly what it was, objectively --no more no less-- a slice of entertainment which was made in a comparatively more innocent time, for enjoyment to distract the viewer from the hardships of life and have a little fun along the way. The series and this book certainly have both done this wonderfully. There is a storyline of the actual history of the business side of the series, with interviews and extensive research included. Also, there are personal and professional biographies of the cast, crew, and business people directly linked to the production. There is an episode guide synopsing each episode and multi-hour movie. The authors have also included a section about all the merchandise produced with the images of the stars (who had to fight to get just a few financial crusts of bread for use of their images). Anecdotes, sidebars, and PHOTOS, PHOTOS, PHOTOS, really make this one of the better media books you will find. I couldn't put it down. I have seen each episode at least 20 times each, read the magazines, and been downright obsessed with "CHARLIE'S ANGELS" for almost 25 years, and I couldn't believe all I did not know about my favorite TV show ever. There was a confidence about this program right from the start which created its own credibility by right. The people who dismissed "CHARLIE'S ANGELS" as 'jiggle TV," obviously did not watch more than a few isolated moments of any one episode. During its run, "CHARLIE'S ANGELS" tackled several issues before "issue-of-the-week TV" became the norm. There were episodes on CHILD ABUSE, ALCOHOL ABUSE, DRUG ABUSE, PSYCHOLOGICAL ABUSE, CODEPENDENCY, LOW SELF ASTEEM LINKED TO COSMETIC SURGERY, and several other topics beyond the usual crime drama. Also, who could ever forget Tiffany's foray into the spiritual world in "OF GHOSTS AND ANGELS," decades before the aura-fluffing Spiritualism belief system evolved its way into the American conciousness? "CHARLIE'S ANGELS" was way ahead of its time, but was never recognized for the quality and substance that it achieved. Personally, my favorite Angel has always been TIFFANY WELLES, played by Shelley Hack. I thought she brought a special quality to the show that had been missing, and made the show complete. From reading "THE CHARLIE'S ANGELS CASEBOOK," I was able to get real insight to the pivotal season in which she was on the show. I was extremely upset when I found out she would not be returning for the fifth season. As it turned out, from the authors' research, Shelley Hack was perceived to be the reason for, and unjustly blamed as the reason for, declining ratings in the fourth season. As it turned out, people did like her, but did not realize that the formula for the scripts had changed from female-bonding teamwork stories to writing character studies highlighting a single character in most episodes. Unfortunately, many people associated the shift in momentum more with the presence of Shelley Hack than with the writing shift. Also, the producers' decision to go for a "classier direction" was just a case of too little too late. The audience that might have been swayed by a "classier direction" in the beginning, had already made up their minds about the show 3 years earlier. Unfortunately, Shelley Hack paid the price. Reading this put my mind at ease for the 20 years I had wondered how such a wonderful actress (and Angel) could be tossed aside after doing such good work. Now knowing that Shelley Hack had no TV, and had never seen "CHARLIE'S ANGELS" prior to starting work on the production, I find it amusingly logical that she was able to create Tiffany with such cool objectivity, and was thoroughly professional when let go. ALL THESE YEARS, after reading this book, I realize I felt sad for her all that time, when I really did not need to. If you are a fan of "CHARLIE'S ANGELS," you will be able to pick up this book and find yourself having these same types of revelations about all the information you have at your fingertips that you never had before about DAVID DOYLE, FARRAH FAWCETT (-MAJORS), JOHN FORSYTHE, LEONARD GOLDBERG, SHELLEY HACK, KATE JACKSON, CHERYL LADD, TANYA ROBERTS, JACLYN SMITH, AARON SPELLING, and many, many others. As co-creator Robert Wagner once noted, "they caught lightning in a bottle....AND THEY TOOK OFF! " ENJOY THIS BOOK...because a lot of blood, sweat and tears went into the making of "CHARLIE'S ANGELS," the television series. A great amount of blood, sweat, and tears, AND AFFECTION, also went into the 24 years of Jack Condon's collecting, and into this book both authors designed like a great piece of architecture.
