Rating: Summary: A Derivative Work That Doesn't Succeed Review: Other reviewers indicated that they laughed themselves silly over this book. I found Mr. Nancy's book to be mildly amusing at best, and generally tedious. Why? The secret to a successful book in this genre, as other authors such as Rosa and Novello have found, is to write silly letters that make the recipients swallow them hook, line and sinker, and respond with a letter thats almost as funny as the author's. Nancy doesn't have this talent. Many letters go without reply, or are answered with curt form letters. This makes the joke fall flat. We can all write stupid letters, but if we can't catch the victim in our trap what's the use? Don't waste your money on the second book in this series; instead go out and buy one of the other similar books by authors who know how to do the job properly.
Rating: Summary: Apologies for laughing out loud Review: This is definately the best book I ever read! How many times does it happen that you read a book and suddenly start to laugh out loud, with tears on your cheeks? Buy this and see...Oh BTW, last week I saw a picture of the King of Togo on TV and suddenly started grinning...
Rating: Summary: I think this was the best book I have read in a long time. Review: Ted Nancy's book "Letters from a Nut" was one of the best book's I've read in a long time. I finished it in two days which I only do if I'm really interested in a book. I think my favorite letter from the book was the one where Ted wrote to Greyhound bus and asked if it would be alright if he rode their bus dressed up as a lobster so he could get to a play he was in. Remarkably the bus company agreed and let him ride in the costume. Truly a funny book that keeps you laughing for hours. I also recommend "More Letter's from a Nut" as well.
Rating: Summary: The Jerky Boys with a typewriter and an ear for the absurd Review: I laughed out loud many times while reading this book and just missed giving it a 10 because of the repetition of some gags. I find it interesting that some readers have faulted it for being reminiscent of earlier works by other authors. Seems specious reasoning to me. By this standard all genre work is inferior simply because it was not the first. Judge this work against itself. For the comedy lover of the "Seinfeld" or Benchley bent, or maybe even the Alexander King fan(if there are any) this is a fun read.
Rating: Summary: stomach hurting from laughter Review: OK, now that I have read all these reviews, I realize that Ted Nancy is not the first in this genre. However, being a novice to this form of humor I can't tell you how funny I found it. I could only read about five letters at
a time because my eyes were tearing and my stomach
hurt from laughter. I have never found a book, TV show, or movie so consistently funny. Give me more,
but not too soon. I have to recuperate!
Rating: Summary: Lazlo is King. Review: First, to not acknowledge "The Lazlo Letters" is flat out wrong. Second, if you've read "Lazlo" you will find "Letters from a Nut" to be second rate. How many times can he write to a hotel asking permission to bring along an object like a desk, sink, tub, bed, etc. The responses are identical. Very mediocre.
Rating: Summary: A Very Funny Book Review: You will laugh out loud with this one. You may not want to read it in public as you may embarass youself with laughter.
Rating: Summary: Not as inventive as other books of its type Review: Jerry Seinfeld's (c'mon, we know it's him) book of letters to corporate America, while funny in many places, is not as inventive as other books of this type. Many of his letters are similar to others in the book. How many times do we need to read about Ted Nancy's predicaments with things he likes to bring to hotels. Instead of putting all of them in, he should have picked the one with the funniest letter and/or response. Idiot Letters, the Lazlo Letters, and Outrageously Yours are much funnier, and sadly, probably haven't sold as well.
Rating: Summary: Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha! This is the the perfect laughing book. Review: Jerry Seinfeld is NOT the author because this is not his type of humor. He is more into the dating scene. Personally I think that Seinfeld is not that funny it's the people aruound him that make him funny. I love this book!
Rating: Summary: I laughed so hard my face hurt! Review: This book caught my eye because it mentioned Jerry Seinfeld on the cover. After reading it I now will recognize his name not just Jerrys...This man is truly a nut. i like nutty people and will anxiously await the release of his next letters from a nut book.
