Rating: Summary: The Real Account of Reagan. Review: Excellent read! This book is interesting and exudes all of America's finest hours during Reagan's term. This book shows Reagan's faults as well as his achievements. As a man who reads lots of Reagan books[ even some of his enemies' books] this is among the best account. It shows how the Great Communicator stuck with his beliefs even when everybody opposed him and conquered malaise, stagflation, high gas prices, a bad economy and the USSR to be classed as one of the greatest presidents. I've read Morris' account and as a person who reads Reagan books, its a waste of time this book is what you should read. This book rightly slams all the revisionists, especially the bad review below. In other words, buy the book its great! A must have for anybody whose researching the 80's or Reagan.
Rating: Summary: In depth, and amazingly on target. Review: This is an amazing book about the life and Presidency of Reagan. You know that the book is on target because not everything is 'pro-Reagan.' The author simply looks at the facts. The best autobiography I have ever read, or heard of, for that matter.
Rating: Summary: Reagan Saved America, and the World Review: This book is a masterpiece. Dinesh D'Souza is an incredible author. Definitive PROOF that Reagan won the Cold War. HE WON THE COLD WAR!! He liberated half of humanity from totalitarian darkness, discrediting a core ideology (Marxism)! The Democratic Party - America's Socialist party - has lost its reason to exist. Reagan destroyed the principle manifestation of the ideological "left" (the Union of Soviet SOCIALIST Republics)! Keep on signin' those welfare reform bills Clinton! Oh, we need TARGETED tax cuts now, huh? Oh, so we need religion in the public sphere now, Mr. Gore? Your Third Way leads to one destination. . .the Ronald Reagan National Monument and Archives!!!!!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Tastes Great, Less Filling Review: This book is a classic example of hagiography. There's a lot of unadulterated praise here. A lot of it! But, there's very little real substance. I want to read about Ronald Reagan's life, not sing his praises from the highest mountaintop. Dinesh D'Souza would do well to learn the historian's art of objectivity. It's what's most obviously lacking in this tome.
Rating: Summary: A MUST READ FOR ANYONE INTERESTED IN THE REAGAN YEARS. Review: THIS BOOK IS AN EXCELLENT PRIMER FOR ANYONE WHO IS INTERESTED IN EITHER A CURSORY OR DETAILED STUDY OF RONALD REAGAN AND HIS PRESIDENCY. MR. SOUZA DELINEATES IN GREAT DETAIL HOW REAGAN OVERCAME HIS CRITICS AT EVERY TURN AND IGNITED A CONSERVATIVE RENAISSANCE THAT STILL GOES ON TODAY. ANYONE, DEMOCRAT OR REPUBLICAN, LIBERAL OR CONSERVATIVE, WILL BE LEFT WITH THE DESIRE TO READ MORE ABOUT RONALD REAGAN AFTER READING THIS BOOK.
Rating: Summary: Intellectuals Look Like Arrogant Fools Over Debate On Reagan Review: Ronald Reagan was simply the greatest president of the 20th century.Dinesh D'Souza's book was magnificent from start to finish.I absolutely loved how he quoted the so-called intellectuals of our time, and made them look as foolish as they are arrogant.Reagan's greatest accomplishment was far & away, the fact that he made us proud to be an American again.thanks to the last worthless Democrat, this country was the laughing stock of the world. Thanks to "the Gipper",we are the only super power in the world. Our current, corrupt & criminal president,"Slick Willie", only makes me yearn for the good old days of the "Great Communicator".God bless D'Souza for a wonderful & thoughtful read.
Rating: Summary: Great Account, And I Got it for Free Review: Dinesh D'Souza's book on the oft maligned and much misunderstood Ronald Reagan finally gives an intellectually stimulating account of Reagan's complexities. Unlike other admirers of Reagan who tend to gloss over much of the detail in their "hero worship", D'Souza actively project's Reagan's faults and incorporates them into his thesis, a thesis that must not be ignored. I got the book when I met the author at a book signing in Washington, DC (I pitied the group sponsoring the lecture into giving me the book for free). I've read it twice and I want to thank Mr. D'Souza for a freebie that won't be wasted!
Rating: Summary: Reagan Biography Titles Always Good Review: "The Common Sense of an Uncommon Man", "The Uncommon Wisdom of Ronald Reagan", and now - "Ronald Reagan: How an Ordinary Man Became an Extraordinary Leader". Hey, if all of these brilliant, creative thinking writers keep this up, we're going to run out of goot titles for future Reagan biographies. What are we going to be left with? - "Reagan - How a Regular Man became So Irregular", or "The Gipper: The Abnormal Behavior of a Normal Man"?
Rating: Summary: A detailed view of a true leader and a great President. Review: D'Souza writes an in-depth view of one of our greatest Presidents. Reagan was a complex man that even some of his closest friends did not really know. He was the epitome of what a leader should be with his actions against the former Soviet Union, big government, and taxes. In our liberal-biased media world, it's refreshing to see the other side of the truth.
Rating: Summary: Revisionist History Review: In true revisionist style, Dinesh D'Souza highlights quotations that agree with his preconceived conclusions and ignores or covers up everything that does not. D'Souza's Reagan is the perfect embodiment of the "Morning in America" image that the Reagan Administration tried to project, but it bears little resemblance to who Ronald Reagan really was. Revisionist history, whether it be on the right or the left, is almost always bad history. Dinesh D'Souza's biography of Ronald Reagan is a classic example of right-wing revisionist history, and like other works of revisionism, it is bad history. If you like the fantasy image of Reagan, then this book is for you. If you're interested in the real Ronald Reagan, stay away from D'Souza's hero-worshiping tomes.
