Rating: Summary: Best CD Ever? Review: This is, quite possibly, the best collection of music ever assembled. It starts with the fast paced Blackened and then goes to the extraordinary ...And Justice For All, and then to the punch in the face that is the Eye of the Beholder. Next is my favorite song of all time, One, starting off quiet and slow but closing with lightning fast riffs that define all that makes Metallica great. The Shortest Straw and Harvester of Sorrow are both medium paced and heavy, but don't really stand out on this album. The Frayed Ends of Sanity captures the feel of insanity extremely well by using a series of quickly executed but spread out chords (not to mention the "flying monkey" song from Wizard of Oz). To Live is to Die is a ten minute tribute to late Metallica bass player Cliff Burton who died in a bus accident (Rest in peace, Cliff). The album closes with the fast paced Dyers Eve.This is by far one of the best albums ever created and definitely Metallica's best. If you like metal at all (and maybe even if you don't) buy this CD immediately.
Rating: Summary: This album has the 2 best songs on it. Review: Dyers Eve, in my opinion the awesomest metal song ever. One is the most musical metal song I have ever heard. The sound quality in the album was that way because they wanted to do something different. Lars's drumming sucks rocks. He doesn't know what a musical phrase is. His beat consists of the basic standard rock beat. Nothing more, unless he changes it in another one of his misinterpretations of the melody. He misinterpreted 90% of the melody in the album, he doesn't know how to make music on the drums. He figures the note played on guitar should have the corresponding note played on drums, so he plays exactly with 2nd guitar, as if he was playing guitar. It sucks. You may think it's a cool idea but it destroyed at least half the melody in the album and if he wasn't there the album would have better ratings. He should have stayed a tennis player, he has no musical blood. 4 stars for the music, minus a star because of Lars.
Rating: Summary: aggressive, the last with music written by cliff burton Review: this is a great album,an album that really made metallica the biggest band ever.this was the first album they did that had a music video,a creepy, disturbing, scary one none the less.in my opinion this is the best album because im a grindcore/death metal freak, so you can see in my profile,so i love anger, angression, speed, and heaviness in the music i listen to.that is why this is my favorite metallica album.this is really a change in metallica's songwriting, agression, emotion, and the way the all around music sounds in general.a good way to discribe this could be if you put alice in chains, earlier metallica, judas priest, and the misfits in a blender you would get this album.but you cant really desribe this album in words, just sounds, that is kind of how this became my favorite metallica album.i dont think there was any metallica album before or after that could relate to this.so buy this album if you like aggression, heaviness, speed, and creepy, wierd anger.
Rating: Summary: Who says it's "too complicated?" Review: This, without question, is the greatest Metallica almum ever composed. I seem to be alone in my Metallica opinions, which I stand by. Some examples of these opinions would be: I think Master of Puppets is the least good Metallica album, and everyone just likes it for the title track, and Load and ReLoad are extremely musical albums with melodius licks and hard riffs, and the word "musical" is why I like Metallica, not the tempo or the lyrics. Speaking of musical, let's get back to the album this review is for. You stupid laymen who don't have the time to interpret the genius of this album because you're too damn busy waiting for the next adrenaline rush just don't get it. I have been a professional 1st trumpet player for the Met opera for 27 years, and I know innovative music when I see it. Nothing compares to this album. Oh yeah, and if you want speed, what's wrong with Dyer's Eve and Blackened?
Rating: Summary: Justice has been served Review: I think this is Metallica's second best studio album behind Master Of Puppets. My favs on it are Blackened, One, Harvester Of Sorrow, Frayed Ends Of Sanity, and To Live Is To Die (reminds me of Cliff Burton, miss you, man), especially the acoustic intro. There's only one problem: the sound quality. I mean, it's good, but it's not as crisp and clean as Master Of Puppets. Also, the bass guitar is nearly left out of the mix.
Rating: Summary: Metallica's BEST Album Review: ..And Justice For All, in my opinion, is Metallica's best album. Though horrbily produced, this album is one of the fews cd's on the market in which EVERY track is enjoyable. I listen to this album everyday and i am still not sick of it. My only complaint with this album is i can't hear any bass. The Drums also sound like Lars is playing over the telephone... Tracks: 1. Blackened: GREAT song! very fast throughout the entire song...amazing riffs...awesome Lyrics similar to "Fight Fire With Fire" (Ride the Lighting). Great intro as well. 2. ...And Justice For All: Amazing song. Although VERY long, i still listen to the song entirely. The intro is awesome and the lyrics discuss the Amercian court system and its many cracks. A bit repetitive, but still Execellent 3. Eye of the Beholder: Good song. The riffs are arranged very well and the drums are great. This is the song i listen to the least, but i still like it. 4. One: How the hell can a Metallica fan not love this song? in a word or two: UNBEILEVELY GREAT! The most famous song on the album. Starts out slow but ends in machine gun- like guitar riffs. 5. The Shortest Straw: VERY good song. Fast the entiire way. Awesome riffs and the solo is great. If produced better, this song would proabably be the best sounding track Metallica has ever recorded. 6. Harvester of Sorrow: Great Song. Best intro of the cd. Lyrcisc are great and the guitars are amazing 7. The Frayed Ends of Sanity: Probably the best title for a song I've heard. GREAT SONG. Amazing riffs. The Best solo Kirk has ever done. Great ending. 8. To Live Is To Die: OK. This song alone proves how GREAT Metallica is. This is my all-time favortie Metallica song. a 10 minute tribute to former bassist Cliff Burton (R.I.P) who died in a buss accident. I listen to this song EVERYDAY. Its amazing beyond description. The band's sorrow is felt every second. My only complaint with this songs is that they never play it live. 9. Dyers Eve: Great closing track. Heavy the entire time. Great lyrcis and guitar riffs are lighting quick.. Overall: I can't say it enough: THIS IS THE BEST METALLICA ALBUM EVER! I you are a fan of Master of Puppets and earlier, you will love this album. Fans of new work like Load and Re-load will be in for a suprise...but this is a amazing album...That's all that matters.
Rating: Summary: Drummers must buy this one! Review: This is Lars Ulrich's finest performance on record. Every track incorporates his monstrous double bass perfectly. Dyers Eve is a great example of this. I don't know too many people that can play that classic machine gun 16th note pattern on the kick drums at 190 bpm. I try and my legs cramp up. A must have album for any serious double kick player.
Rating: Summary: justice done to listeners Review: one word ,WOW !I have got all the albums of metallica and this is their 2nd best album after master of puppets. After the death of cliff (probably the best bassist ever)metallica returns with one great album '...and justice for all'which is criticized by some for being to long .It has got james with his voice sounding more maturish than the previous albums,he doesn't scream like in their previous outtings and lets the finality in his voice which is in this album take over. It begins with an explosive song BLACKENED which has great beat changes and harsh lyrics about earth being put to death.the next song which is the title song is agreat song with Kirk doing afine job.EYE OF THE BEHOLDER is an okay okay song ,great intro though .Then comes the grammy sward winning song 'ONE'which is probably the greatest song metallica has ever made and probably the best anti war song ever and also has the harshest and best lyrics by metallica ending with'landmine has taken my sight, taken my speech, taken my hearing, taken my arms, taken my legs, taken my soul, left my life in aliving hell' .THE SHORTEST STRAW is also a very good song with great riffs. HARVESTOR OF SORROW is the heaviest song of the album though I never could understand what it is about though I've read the lyrics a zillion times and it has strange lyrics such as 'harvestor of sorrow, language of the mad'.TO LIVE IS TO DIE is a ten minute song which is almost an instrumental and has james speaking a few lines for 10-15 seconds,it is also the only song showing some warmth as it is dedicated to clff burton their late and great bass player.FRAYED ENDS OF SANITY is an explosive song with a great chorus and is also pretty long (7.40 minutes)but over all a very good song. The last song DYRE'S EVE is the second best song after ONE and probably the fastest song ever made by metallica about the faults of bringing up achild with lyrics such as 'dear mother, dear father, you clipped my wings before I learnt to fly'and is also the shortest song of the albumm(5.12 minutes). This is not an album for those with no patience and cannot listen to long compositons. The only problem with album is it's recording which could have been much better.
Rating: Summary: Blackened Is The End! Review: I will admit. This was...I believe the sixth Metallica album I bought. At first, I didn't pareticularly like any of the songs except One. But now, I respect and think that there are at least 5 awesome classics found here: Black, Justice, One, Harvester, and Dyers. I could do without Eye, Straw, Frayed Ends, or To Live. Justice is arguably their second-best long song, with Puppets being first. I love that song. One is a song nobody can say enough about. Blackened is one of their most organized thrashers, though Damage Inc. is 1,000 times above any other thrasher. Dyers is up there as well. And Harvester has an awesome rhythm riff and I now love this album, just for those five songs. Must have for any Metallica fan, sellout fan or not.
Rating: Summary: Overhyped Review: I dunno why, but at first I really didn't get this. There was something missing, perhaps due to lack of Cliff Burton, the bass master who died on tour after the release of the Master Of Puppets album. This album seemed a bit more controlled, a bit less thrashy, and without the work of Burton which we were graced with on previous albums. And as if to rub salt in the wound, the sound quality isn't as good as it is on the others (which don't have great production as it is). Even albums done a decade before this have got better sound quality! As far as epics go, Master Of Puppets, The Four Horsemen and Ride The Lightning are better than Justice For All. As far a quieter songs go, One is great but I always prefered Fade To Black and Sanitarium. As far as pacy thrashers go, Battery, Whiplash, Fight Fire With Fire, Damage Inc., Creeping Death or Metal Militia are instant classics whereas on this album none of the songs of this style grabbed my attention as much. There are a few good songs, but even Justice For All (song) gets boring after a while (good intro though). The only song I ever bother to listen through all the way is One. But now I get it. I still don't think it is as good as Ride The Lightning, as raw as Kill 'Em All or as amazingly epic as Master Of Puppets, but it does deserve a place in your collection if you're a Metallica fan. If you're new Metallica, get any of the other 3, although my personal favourite is Master Of Puppets. And if you're not a big Metallica fan, then you probably won't be interested in this.
