Summary: Another great release by Metallica
Review: After 3 previous releases under Metallica's belt, Hetfield and company returned with an album that went much deeper lyrically and musically. During the 'Puppets' tour in Scandinavia, bassist Cliff Burton was tragically killed as the band's tour bus overturned. He was replaced by Jason Newstead. And Justice For All proved to be an album that vented out anger, sorrow and pain from the death of their former 4-string headbanger.

And Justice For all starts a little different than the previous albums with leads that progressively get louder until the listener hears riffs that Metallica were famous for! The song, Blackened is a perfect opener. Hetlfield's voice is particulary strong on this song. One of Metallica's strongest ballads ever written is 'One.' This song is a very emotional song about the horrors of war. The best song here in my opinion is Harvester of Sorrow. The riffs are amazing and I am finding myself head banging to this song all the time! Hammet's lead sounds magnificent halfway through the song. The track, To Live is to Die, is one of the most emotional instrumentals ever written. This song is nearly 10 minutes long, and it was dedicated to Cliff. He even wrote the short poem spoken by Hetfield near the end of the song. The leads will pull at your heart in this one.

Metallica has another 5-star album with And Justice For All. This is some of Metallica's most aggressive material musically and lyrically. After this album, the band never has really sounded like this. Their music was not as heavy, the songs became shorter, and mainstream was pointing their fingers to Ulrich, Hetfield and the rest of the Bay Area Bashers. One wonders what sort of legacy Metallica would've had if they kept on playing material similar to And Justice For All.

Summary: Underrated title track.
Review:
Many say "One" is the best song on this album. But others are just as good or better, especially the title track.

This often gets a bashing for production quality, which is somewhat deserved. Even a non-audiophile like me notices the weak tapping of the drums and the lack of bass end. But don't let that stop you from buying one of their best and most innovative albums.

All songs are good or excellent, with the possible exception of the last one, which seems self-indulgent, and out-of-place with the other songs and the overall theme.

Songwriting: 9/10
Musicianship: 10/10
Sound Quality: 7/10
Originality: 9/10

Summary: A Metallica Great
Review: ...And Justice For All, mettalica is good on this album but of course metallica doesn't really change from the past few albums they have but hey this album is good, It's got "One" not a gold or platinum, but diamond song one of my favorites, the other songs sort of explain themselves "Blackened" is good, "The Shortest Straw" is up there too and the title track is a good one too. I would recommend this album but by it if you like or buy the previous albums before you by this if you like so you get a sense of the change of metallica's songs and of course hear the two differant bassists Cliff Burton pasted away after "Master", rest in peace man and was replaced by Jason Newsted, who has been with Metallica up till now almost he's not on St. Anger.

Summary: My soundtrack for the year 1988
Review: I was but a pimply faced, starting to grow my hair long and rock out 12 yr old in '88, approx 7th grade. I remember when "Justice" came out, perhaps because of my age or my peer group, I wasn't quite the "Metallihead" just yet. I can safely say early '88 is when i TRULY got into metal, for anything prior to winter '88 was Def Leppard, Whitesnake, crap in other words! I got into Metallica between "Garage Days", which was covers of course and "Justice," so the new album was to be my introduction to their world. Well, 18 years later this is still an amazing album. 1988 was the REAL turning point for Metallica not 91's "Black Album" as many claim. 1988 was the FIRST venture into new material sans Cliff, their first video, and best mind you, for their apocalyptic masterpiece "One" and just about put Metallica on the cusp of superstardom. Many fans cried SELLOUT at the video for "One" but because i was new to Metallica and loving it...who was i to claim they were selling out? Naw, that was just the next step for the most brillant band of that era. no kiddies, their next album saw the REAL sellout and the unfortunate( sad but true anyone? ) but eventual fall from grace for the boys. they just got worse and worse and more ego centric from '91 to the present...sheesh just go see "Some Kind of Monster!" but in 1988 "And Justice for All" was it for me and about million other Metallica fans. They defintely sound more "poloished" than from previous efforts, production stunk but their sound was evolving into more diverse territory...rock, blues and even SYMPHONIES all worked their way into the sound. Every Metallifuk was at their peak musically, just listen to ulrich's furious double bass drumm and energy...who else could pound skins like this in '88? The songs didn't get me at first, after all 9 plus minute songs?? coming from the dudes that said "Metal up you you know what??" The title track "And Justic for all" grew and grew on me, as did most of the progressive songs such as "Harvester" and "Frayed Ends." "One" was and is amazing from first listen, not cuz it was their first single/video, just cuz it is! I didn't care that the fellas once proclaimed "Duuuuude we'll never make a video," everything they did at that particular time was METAL and they became my FAVORITE band on the planet!! Shortly after Sep '88 when "Justice" hit the stands, i quickly went out to get the Metalli-catalog. Yes "Master of Puppets" is their best album and will always remain so, "Lightning" is their speed devil masterpiece and "Kill em All" was great because it introduced us to Metallica, at such an "innocent"( for lack of better word ) time in the bands long, tumultuous history. I say this is 4 and a half stars, not 5, the production as most people will agree...just sux! Although, i would rather have Fleming Rasmussen at the boards ANY DAY over Bob Rock. Fer chrissakes did't this guy produce Journey or Foriegner albums or sum such crap, prior to becoming Metallica's fifth member? Once he did production on "Black" they would never sound the same! Who cars is if it's a crisp, clean million dollar budget sound? "And Justice for all" was truly the last of the great Metallica. Needless to say, as 1991 moved on and Metallica became what they are tofday, i pretty much buried their albums under what i was listening to in the early 90's( choose a band hahaha ) but when i pop on this bad boy 1988 is happening all over again...for better for worse! The ONLY good move Metallica has made in like, what 15-16 years? is bringing bass maestro ROB TRUJILLO on board. this guy is truly a monster on the bass, he keeps the spirit of Cliff alive while adding his own flava and YES he blows JAson out of the water. BUT...1 humble n amazing musician will DOUBTLY save a stuck in the past guitarist and 2 inflated egos...I will bite my words if they do something spectacular on wax but seeing as what they've spit out since '91? Hmmmmmm I won't hold my breath...hey James n Lars METAL UP YER A** DUDES!!!

Summary: Best Metallica Album
Review: This album is by far my favorite album that Metallica has put out. It was right before they released their Black Album, which most consider their "turning point" in their career. All the songs on this album are great. You will find their first single that made a video for, "One." I love this song. It has so much emotion and anger in it. I also think that the video was great, even though most feel that they sold out by making it. The video portrayed the song quite well, with scenes of war and hospitals. On this album is my favorite song Metallica has ever made and that is the song "...And Justice For All." It's slow and fast and has great lyrics all in one song. I would definitely tell anyone to purchase this album.

Summary: Their last great effort
Review: "...And Justice for All" is yet another Metallica classic, #3 on my list. The songs, like the album titled song "...And Justice for All" and "One," are about how messed up our society is. A very powerful album with much heavy sound and anger coming from James. And yet some people complain about each songs' length. If you don't like it, you're not a Metallica fan. It may have a thin sound, but once you listen more to each song, you realize that it's just as heavy and hard sounding as their previous albums. And with the tragic loss of Cliff Burton, these guys showed that they can still kick ass and this album shows.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: I'm a Metallica fan, but this album frustrates me
Review: In my opinion the Black Album is better than this one, and of course Kill Em All, Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets destroy all of their other attempts at albums. This one sounds awful - the guitars, drums, bass, and vocals all sound terrible. It makes it impossile to enjoy this album. How could they follow up Master of Puppets with this? Truly sad. If they remaster this album to sound better, I might give it a better rating.
