Rating: Summary: to eric charles moscon Review: I've heard the tapes, i've read the transcripts. I must admit that this is clear proof that courtney love is a .........liar. Big deal. We all lie, it's not like this is some sort of gateway sin which will eventually lead to murderess actions. As far as the only other version being courtney's......this is not what I'm getting at..Courtney's version, grant's version, the writers.....None of this matters. What matters is the truth. You use the term "ignorant" quite freely. Is it not ignorant to go on national television and make the statement that "we have proved it to be scientifically impossible for kurt cobain to have killed himself"....when there are many reputable examiners that would disagree with this statement? What I'm getting at is that the facts need to be examined....the forensics,etc...and the fact is that there is much dispute against the writers claims. What courtney loved blabbered on about on some tapes is completely irrelevant. Honestly, i wouldn't be surprised by anything she said....even if she stated that she killed kurt....Courtney love is a sarcastic, crude (...)....Maybe she's a drug addict...maybe she's completely insane....None of this involves her in a conspiracy to kill her husband. In order for her to have pulled this off, and covered it up for the past ten years, courtney would have to be some sort of criminal mastermind. I don't see it. As far as grant not making money of the book...whatever. I'm sure he makes enough off of the "case manuals" which can be purchased on his website. This book was a very disappointing read....I really thought there was going to be some sort of revelation....let's face it though...there wasn't. These so called "damning" tapes are courtney being courtney Oh and you want ignorant how about this: how celebrities in the media can very easily get away with murder and that America's system of criminal justice simply DOES NOT WORK (remember the OJ trial, people!!!). What exactly is the correlation here....?O.J. c'mon now......And saying that the system doesn't work....sure it ain't perfect, but it's not like the countries overrun with complete anarchy.....somthings getting done right.....Celebrities getting away with things? Courtney's really getting the celebrity treatment nowadays huh? Your argument is simply a clique, and a tired one at that...

Rating: Summary: Enough new evidence for a 2d ed. Review: In Halperin and Wallace's latest release of 'Who Killed Kurt Cobain', entitled 'Love & Death', they finally answer the question posed by the title of the first book: Cobain was killed by a wild sasquatch that wandered into the Washington suburb from the nearby woods.
Seriously, though, this story has all the hallmarks of a conspiracy theory. The witnesses are scared to talk, disinformation is purposefully leaked to the media, and the authorities aren't releasing evidence that's crucial to the case, saying that Kurt's death is an 'open and shut' suicide.
Enough is new in this release to be noteworthy. This book names the shooter, and prints a conversation the authors have with him. In a world where people will do anything to sell records, this self-proclaimed shooter (his admission of guilt is just thinly veiled enough not to be admissible), is credible, and actually a bit creepy.
Courtney's ex private investigator, Tom Grant (called in when Cobain was just a missing person) has released some of his taped conversations with Courtney Love and her entertainment attorney, Rosemary Carroll. Mostly, the dialogue reflects peoples' doubts that he was suicidal; and it paints Courtney Love as a woman who is capable of anything, and supports her threats with real force.
The new account is garnished with case studies about suicides and investigations that help the authors demonstrate how homicides can be successfully staged as suicides. It contains new expert witness testimony that decries the 'Chief Wiggam' style of the Seattle Police Department in approaching the death as an 'open and shut' suicide. (Kurt's death was so obviously a suicide that the SPD still has not developed photos of the crime scene. And by their own admission, they only sent a forensic team because Kurt was a celebrity.) These case studies of misdiagnosed suicides, when combined with general statistics on suicide provide a false-suicide backdrop that highlight Cobain's death as unlikely to have been a suicide.
The compelling evidence of the first edition is still present: the gun had no legible fingerprints -- not the gun salesman's, not Dylan Carson's (with Cobain when buying the gun), not even Kurt Cobain's. Also, according to Cyril Wecht -- most famous for his work on the Jon-Benet Ramsey case -- the outrageous amount of heroin injected would have resulted in instantaneous death, making it hard to lift a shotgun. Someone tried to use Kurt's credit card several times after his death, even though his wallet was found on his body. While in the first edition, Courtney's motives for wanting Cobain out of the way are the stuff of hearsay and speculation, this edition has hard evidence in transcripts of taped conversations.
The authors' real accomplishment, though, is that in the light of everything presented, the reader must either subscribe to the murder theory, or adopt a bias that precludes all of the evidence. In other words, there's no sitting on the fence. Even if the reader finds the characters odious (and I can guarantee that he will), or has a strong bias against junkies, hippie artists, or shock rockers, the reader will have to believe that either people conspired to murder Kurt or that people conspired to make his suicide look like a murder. Most likely, the real bias is against far-fetched conspiracy theories that waste time and energy. This is not one of them.
Rating: Summary: Worth a read Review: Just finished this book. While I must say it was over-hyped, the book is hands-down the most compelling work on the death of Kurt Cobain to date. I can not think of much else that was not included. All aspects of the case are covered. Also going public for the first time are Cobain's grandfather, whom some claim was closer to Kurt than his own parents, and Kristen Pfaff's mother, who has serious doubts about her daughter willingly doing the heroin that killed her. New evidence that comes to light in this book includes transcripts of Tom Grant's conversations with Rosemary Carroll and Courtney Love. Rosemary found a "handwriting practice sheet" in a knapsack of Courtney's, damning evidence for the possibility of a forged suicide note. Alas, the amount of new evidence brought to light in this book is minimal. A further revision of their original book "Who Killed Kurt Cobain" would have done as much justice. This book, if anything, shows that Kurt's death should at least be changed from "suicide" to "undetermined." This claim is backed by a wealth of testimony from various forensics experts. Unfortunately, the most telling evidence (autopsy and crime scene photos) will likely never be made available unless the FBI decides to reopen the case. Borderline skeptics may wish to read the book.
Rating: Summary: Facts, Facts, More Facts Review: Kurt's body was found on the eighth day of the month, so here is eight important facts. Fact 1 - Wallace and Halperin are amazing journalists. They have both written numerous best selling books. Their new book is much better than their first tome WKKC. Fact 2 - Someone got away with murder. Fact 3 - Justice must be done for Kurt. Fact 4 - Tom Grant deserves an award for not letting this drop. Fact 5 - Every Cobain fan should buy this book to understand what really happened. Fact 6 - The part about Kurt's grandfather accusing Courntey of murder tells all. Fact 7 - Charles Cross missed the boat. Fact 8 - If this case is not reopened someone should lock up the Seattle Cops and throw away the key!
Rating: Summary: It really is a thought starter. Review: Let me start this off by saying, that I love a good consipricy theory. I really do. Give me JFK "back and to the left" any day. So when I purchased this book, I thought it would be a great read. Which it was. I devoured the book in just a few days, and tried my hardest to believe in what they were saying. The thing that stops me, is Kurt's suicide note itself. In the book they say that the note itself is not a suicide note, but in reality a note to his fans of his retirement, and that the final parts were added. The only flaw I find in this, is the last line written in Kurt's handwritting. I've read all of Kurt's journals, which makes me just as guilty of raping his memory as I care to feel, but the writing is the same. "Frances and Courtney, I will be at your altar." What does that have to do with retirement? And the handwriting at the bottom does look like his, but written in haste? Just my opinion. I don't think she did it, I think it was a suicide, and that we are all scrambling with a loss. When someone is stolen from you, you feel justified, that they did care, but someone took them away from you. When they leave, it means they didn't care. I don't think Kurt didn't care, I just don't think he could care anymore. He wasn't stolen, he just left.
Rating: Summary: Not to be overlooked. Review: Like many other readers, I was initially skeptical towards this book. However I decided to pick it up just to see what the authors have to say. Now I seriously have misgivings as to what really happened. There are numerous inconsistencies with Courtney Love's public remarks in and around the death and actual evidence found at the scene, particularly the "suicide note." Also a private investigator found some very incriminating evidence in one of Love's purses shortly after Cobain's body was found. (You'll have to read it to see what it is). And just for you hardcore disbelievers, Love has admitted to a similar crime in the months after Cobain's death. She hired a PI to spy on a boyfriend of hers based on the assumption that he was cheating on her. The PI found that a psycho fan had broken a window to his apartment, splattered bloody tampons on the walls, and left a threatening note. A couple of weeks later, Love admitted to the whole thing just because she's vindictive. Her behavior that incident echoed what was found that fateful day; a strange crime and an even stranger note. And to contradict what that idiot from "planet earth" wrote below, these journalists are very credible. Yes, they're not medical or legal experts, but they've talked with the experts. All a journalist has to do is know what questions to ask and where to find the answers. Mr. Wallace and Mr. Halperin did an excellent job at presenting a very convincing case.
Rating: Summary: Yeah, we get it. Review: Please, stop acting like nobody knows about all this evidence. Stop acting like nobody appreciates Kurt, because really, nobody shuts up. Use the energy that you'd normally use reading this one-millionth version of "OMGOMGOMG KURT COBAIN WAS MURDERED!!!!111" to read about underappreciated grunge ancestors of Kurt, like Andrew Wood (Frontman of Malfunkshun and Mother Love Bone, died of a tragic heroin overdose) or Buzz Osbourne (frontman of the Melvins, who are still together, and a good friend of Kurt's). Seriously, I do think Kurt was amazing and I love Nirvana, but if I see one more book on murder conspiracies surrounding his death I'm going to scream.
Rating: Summary: The tapes are frightening Review: The most important part of this book is the transcripts of the taped conversations between Courtney Love's private investigator Tom Grant and Courtney's lawyer, who tells Grant that she believes Cobain was murdered and that the suicide note was cobbled together from his notebooks and "forged" by somebody. It also has the taped conversations where Courtney admits that the supposed Rome suicide attempt was not a suicide attempt at all but that Kurt had left her a note saying he was leaving her and that he wanted a divorce. There is a lot of new evidence from the police and autopsy reports proving that Kurt could not have committed suyicide in the way the police and coroner said he did.Time to reopen this case and find out what really happened.
Rating: Summary: Just read this book Review: There are many people who refuse to believe Kurt was murdered. If those people read books like this one (or Who Killed Kurt Cobain), they would finally wake up and realize some things did not add up. This book further elaborates on the inconsistencies and questionable actions by all involved with the investigation into Kurt's death. Read this book and try to understand how a suicide conclusion was reached so quickly after Kurt's body was found...and why the police haven't at least re-opened the case! Maybe this book is one more step towards a fair and true investigation for Kurt's family, friends, and fans!
