Summary: Thank's for all that you did for our country!
Review: I purchased 2 copies of Mr. Plaster's book and 2 of his photo history! I put a copy of each back for my son, so that he will oneday remember and respect (SOG) all all those who have served in Vietnam! This book is a must for anyone who want's to know and understand just what it was like to be : "the elite-of-the-elite" Special Forces units! The danger's and risk's involved by these fine-brave American's for our country during The Vietnam War! This book and Mr. Plaster's Photo History books are a must to anyone who want's to know the total, (definative) history of (SOG) and life in S.E. Asia as a SOGGER! I spent close to $150.00 on 2 copies "each" of Mr. Plaster's work's, and don't regret it a bit! His story about this fine group of men and women was well worth it; and I want my son to have a copy, "of each" when he's older! This fine group of men did so much (above and beyond) the normal call-of-duty, that they "all" deserve so mush more respect and recognition than what they got! I respect all "you" veteran's; especially those who served in S.E. Asia! If I were asked to do the same for you, I wouldn't hesitate one bit to do the same for you all! However I could never be as brave and courageous as "you-SOG) MEN SO VALLANTLY WERE IN vIETNAM! pLEASE ACCEPT MY HUMBLIST THANKS for preserving: our freedom, democracy, flag, and great country in which we live! THANKS! Theese books a must for anyone wanting to know of the " best of the best" Special Forces units in Nam; and their gallant, courageous and heroic (team efforts) to help preserve Democracy for us all, today!

Summary: Few of the Good Paperbacks About Vietnam
Review: After buying a few paperbacks accounts of the Vietnam War, with subjects ranging from the USMC Snipers, US Navy SEALS, or even the Green Berets in the Blackjack operations, I was very disappointed in the fact that able storytellers are few and hard to come by. Imagine my pleasant surprise when I picked up this book -- expecting it to be the usual cheezy Vietnam War account -- and finding it to be SO MUCH MORE. I am sure that most firearm and military buffs know about John Plaster. I am also sure that most people didn't know that John Plaster was this good at writing a book and doing his research. This book is a very comprehensive collections of not only the tales of the soldiers who fought the secret war (which, in itself, was worth the money and more), BUT ALSO the histories, politics, little espionages...the list goes on and on. What this is NOT, it's NOT a lousy John Plaster Memoir just because he was there. If you've read a lot of lousy books on Vietnam War (bad authorship and all)(and most people give 5 stars to every book they read), I am guaranteeing that you'll be as happy as I was to have picked up this book. I would have gladly paid a lot more money for it.

Summary: SOG: Sperating the Best from the Rest
Review: I've heard of that codename "Phoenix Program" which had got something to do with US forces in Laos and Cambodia, I have been searching for a long time for a comprehensive account of this program. This book answer all my questions. Chapters by chapters , you will find something new. It does cover SOG's black propaganda techniques, insertion into both Cambodia and Laos, Search and Rescue of down personnels, counterintelligence and so on. Stories of brave men who fought in those "hot areas". I can picture the hardship of those Green Berets fighting their way out to the LZ, all the confusion and they still made it. One of them happened to be Col. Robert Howard, who was submitted three times for Medal of Honor. After you read his encounters, You will think that he deserves more then three. This is a man that defy all odds to make it through, his strength to survive, his comradeship makes his one of the best his country has. All the braves that serves in the SOG RT deserves a big round of applause, I would be honor to even take a glimpse at those good soldier, not mentioning to ba able to shake hands with them Great book to read but don't get nightmare reading it, it happens to me, I woke up in the middle of the night thinking about a "one-zero"'s belly being cut open and his intestine fell to the ground and was tourched to death.

Summary: Freedom has a meaning the protected will never know
Review: This book put a piece of the puzzle in place that I have been dilegently seeking for the last fifteen years. I have been told and eluded to the truth that is in this but never had all of the pieces to fit it together. Thank God and I do give credit to him for having someone with enough integrity and courage to tell of the heros of SOG. My deepest love and respect go with these brave men. I would like to talk with Maj. Plaster to let him know what personal meaning this book has to me. I know of one special person that this book refers to and would like to give more insight into what I now know to be the truth and to the things that may have shaped this persons actions and beliefs.

Summary: Sog: The Secret Wars of America's Commandos in Vietnam
Review: Maj Plaster, Your book was simply one of the greatest books I have ever read! I'm currently in the U.S Military and count myself lucky to have people like you and the men of SOG as examples of real leaders! I served in the now U.S Air Force Sog from 93-98 and have taken it upon myself to learn the history of Sog and I have to say that your book is the most compelling article on Sog I have ever read! Again I thank you and the Men of Sog just as everyone in country should have done then and should do NOW!

Summary: SOG: The way it was
Review: Having served in Vietnam, I had the honor of supporting a variety of "special teams". It is time for these stories of real heros to be told and John Plaster has done it. By relating, first hand, what it was like to work behind enemy lines in such small groups against often overwhelming odds, you begin to realize the incredible bravery and sacrifice that these warriors exhibited. We should all be thankful that men such as these make it possible for all of us to enjoy the freedoms so many take for granted. Major Plaster has created a masterpiece of modern special warfare told by the people who were there and by the men who commanded them. A superb read for any student of history.

Summary: Thanks for the memories, Maj. Plaster
Review: It has been over 30 years since I left CCN, SOG's northern arm in South Vietnam. This book, to whose veracity and authenticity I can attest, is more than a history book to those of us who participated in SOG. It is a well written, factual vehicle for transporting us back to that time. Memories become fuzzy with age, but this book helps focus them, with references to men, places, exploits. Thank you, Maj. Plaster.

Summary: Unbelievable courage on every page!
Review: The acts of courage and self-sacrifice portrayed in this book make any work of fiction pall in comparison. Page after page had me on the edge of my seat wondering if a team would get out of a tight spot in one piece. It is about time all of these heroes got some credit.
