Rating: Summary: One of a kind! Review: I usually like to read romances but I was getting tired of the cookie cutter plot lines. I think some authors think you need to be brainless to enjoy a good romance. How refreshing it was to find a book that challenged my intelligence, that brought out every emotion possible and that was totally entertaining; not to mention romantic. I just have to add that Jamie's accent was adorable and his character a rare breed. I loved this book. I had my sisters read it also. One loved it; the other hated it (why, I don't understand). I now love fiction and am on a quest for something even close to the quality of Outlander; haven't found it yet. I'll just have to wait for Diana Gabaldon to come out with a new book. Even without the romance she's a great storyteller.
Rating: Summary: most excellent Review: With out a doubt one of my most favorite books! The series is excellent, alot of historical content and a good storyline. Have never been a big fan of time travel books but Outlander was so good I had to have the whole series. One you read it you will never forget Jamie and Claire
Rating: Summary: EXCELLENT! Review: BEAUTIFULLY WRITTEN WITH STRONG, EXCITING CHARACTERS. I'VE READ IT AND IT'S SEQUELS SEVERAL TIMES AND DRAW SOMETHING NEW FROM IT EVERYTIME. DIANA GABALDON BY FAR EXCEEDS OTHERS IN HER FIELD. I LOOK FORWARD TO ALL HER FUTURE PROJECTS.
Rating: Summary: Can read it over and over Review: Diana is one of my favorite authors. I usually don't read this type of fiction and happened on it quite accidentally, now I have read the whole series and wait with baited breath for more. This is the starting place and what a great adventure it is.
Rating: Summary: An interesting read. Not the best, not the worst Review: With 430+ reviews, I thought this would have been the book of books. The first chapter was tedious. Love story was nice between Claire and Jamie and Scotland was depicted very accurately for the time period. Claire's demon exorcism at the end was seemed unlikely since she practiced medicine. I'm not sure I'll attempt the others in this series.
Rating: Summary: anytime read Review: I loved this book and all of the other books in this series! I have read them each at least 5 or 6 times. These books are very well written and wonderfuly researched and the depth of character is such that if they cry I cry! Ms. Gabaldon, thank you for giving me so much joy with these characters!
Rating: Summary: Diane did it again Review: Usually, I am the avoid the romance book section woman; thinking many books there are less prolific than my tastes - however I held my head up as I searched for Outlander! Diane's treatment of the historical aspects and the ties that bind it together from continents to timezones held me captive once again! My dear husband even encouraged and drove me to get the hardback version of the book - as I have enertained him with read aloud excerpts from the first few books. I am again a selective reader with precious time for two children and their books, husbands computer manuals and my dry college textbooks; as a rule, I avoid trilogies or book sets - choosing to think the first book is usually the most delcious and having diminished appetites for consecutive efforts. However, this is not the case in Diane's gift to us with her ability to weave stories around history and capture us into Clare's lifelong love story as it unfolds. How long must we wait for the next episode to this fantastic journey? Time does not matter where quality is concerned - patience and persistence will grant us a passport to continue the lifelong quest for intrigue and the deep commitment Diane grants us in her storytelling.
Rating: Summary: Outlander Review: I'm in love with the characters in this book. I can't get enough! Jamie and Claire are so real. This is by far one of the best books that I have ever read. Needless to say, I've also read the three that followed it. Everyone that I have shared these books with have agreed that there are no others that can compare. I can't wait for the 5th one!
Rating: Summary: This book touched me! Review: I read "Outlander" two years ago, and I still can't get it out of my head. It was so intense, that I could not put it down. The main characters, Jamie and Claire were so real to me. Their love and the trials that they faced kept me awake at night. Diana Gabaldon is a wonderful writer. This book goes way beyond the realm of romance. It was historical, educational, thought provoking and beautiful. I have to admit that I did not care for the other books in the series, but I consider "Outlander" to be one of the best books that I have ever read.
Rating: Summary: NOT ONE OF THE GREAT BOOKS OF ALL TIME, BUT ENTERTAINING Review: As a romance novel, this one is better than average. The characters are quite well drawn and the story moves along. Even though it is 600 pages, you will not be bored. Lots of sex and violence, what more could you ask for in a novel of this type. I would keep it in my library and at some point might read it again. Very entertaining and makes you look forward to the next edition. This has got to be a series.
