Summary: One of my most frequently recommended books!
Review: My copy of Outlander is quite tattered after being passed from one friend to another. I'm a trashy romance novel junkie, so I have spent A LOT of time convincing friends who scoff at romance to give this series a try -- and so far no one has been disappointed. Indeed, I often lament that this is categorized as "romance" since it goes far beyond what is traditionally considered to be a romance novel.

One friend borrowed Outlander just before I left for a short trip. After reading this novel in about two days, she was so impatient to get her hands on the rest, that she went out and bought them all rather than borrowing mine!

The characters are realistic, engrossing, and memorable. Even though the time-travel premise is so improbable, Gabaldon carries you away with her storyline and makes you suspend your disbelief. The plot is so gripping that you simply cannot put the book down until you are done. And even then you might not succeed -- as you're probably too busy rereading your favorite scenes! These characters will stay with you for a long time. It's easy to identify with Claire -- a thoroughly modern woman -- and Jamie is flawed just enough to be perfectly imperfect. Fortunately, through the series you get to watch them evolve and mature over time.

I re-read the first three (in about two weeks) before devouring the fourth, and still I'm impatiently waiting for The Fiery Cross. In short, I loved this book (and the others as well) so much that when I visited the Scottish highlands I dragged my friend from one stone circle to another hoping I would fall into Claire and Jamie's world!

Summary: BEST BOOK I'VE EVER READ!!
Review: This was one of those books you absolutely can't put down! There were a few nights that I could not stop reading it. I then went the day after I finished the book and got the next one in the series. This is a book that you'll remember the content and especially the characters for years to come. You do not need to be a "fan" of historical romance before you read this as I was not. But once you've read the series you will search those historical romance sections for something just as endearing, but you won't find one!!

Summary: A romance novel for history buffs and people "who don't read
Review: I first read Outlander when it first came out in paperback and was hooked! Jamie Fraser became my ultimate hero. When Dragonfly came out, I gave the first book to one of my friends and started a chain of Gabaldon fans at th school I work in. Being of Scottish descent, the history grabbed me. Being a hopeless romantic, Jamie and Claire's story enthralled me. I just wish Ms. Gabaldon would write faster! I have purchased at least four copies of this book and they all seem to disappear (new fans won't give them up!) I heartily recommend this to anyone who loves history, Scotland, and romance.

Summary: Ms. Gabaldon is to be commended!
Review: This book is the first of a series that will carry you away. Once you get into this book, it begins a journey through time and love that you will not want to end. The encompasing story of Jamie and Claire takes you through honorable moments in history and makes you feel a part of it. Diana has written with perfect historical provisions, that help you to enjoy this masterful series even more. I recomend this book to anyone who loves history, romance, and a bit of the unknown. And even if you don't like these things before you pick this book up, you'll be sure to LOVE them afterwards.

Summary: fiction in top form
Review: I strongly recommend this book to all! The characters, plot line, historical accuracy, and the emotions of this novel make it one of the best books I have ever read in my entire life, and definitely my favorite (along with the rest of the series, which is also wonderful). So, if anybody out there is debating reading this excellent series, do yourself a favor and get lost in the world Gabaldon has created. You won't be able to put the books (all of them) down until you are done, and will want more!

Summary: Escapist reading at its best!
Review: WARNING: Your laundry will pile up, the dishes will sit in the sink, and dinner will burn on the stove. Once you get into this book, you won't be able to put it down.

But once you DO put it down, your husband will be very pleased.... ;)

I couldn't wait to read the other books in the series!
