Rating: Summary: boooring silly romance, not for me, thanks ! Review: I found this book incredibly boring. I had to fight to get halfway through it, luckily the ending got a little more interesting. I can't believe my eyes if there are people saying this is the best book they have ever read. Just know that this a a simple romance book (Claire can't keep her hands of Jamie and vice versa, they make love, they fight)with a little adventure (for sure not enough). I don't understand why she needs 850 pages to tell her story. Why didn't we hear from Frank, how does he feel? I wouldn't even recommend it for light summer reading and for the same reason, I will not read any of the sequels. THIS IS ONLY FOR ROMANCE READERS.
Rating: Summary: A "can't put it down" book Review: This was one of the best books I have ever read I couldn't even put it down. The love/hate scenes between her and Jamie could never be brought to the big screen with as much realism and emotion as they had in the book. You can not help but fall in love with both the characters. It is a must for anyone who loves time travel. Way to go Dinane you have an awsome way of capturing your characters spirit. I have read Dragon fly in Amber and The Voyager and am getting ready to start the 4th I hope it is as captivating as your others.
Rating: Summary: I'm going to go crazy! Review: I loved this book. I have an extremely busy schedual, and I read this book in like 5 days. I was up the last night I finished it until 3:30. I was a tad tired in school the next day. But that doesn't matter. Because I have been waiting forever for the person who checked the next one out of our library turn it back in and if I don't get it soon I'm going to go crazy!
Rating: Summary: Highly entertaining but a bit much for the cynical Review: I just finished _Outlander_, and I have to admit to somewhat mixed feelings. On one hand, I thoroughly enjoyed learning about Scottish culture and traditions through the eyes of a more modern character and I found the intrigue and adventure Claire encountered fascinating. On the other hand, several things irritated me... domestic violence just plain doesn't sit well with me, no matter how much it's justified in the context of the time. And maybe I'm just too cynical, but some of the dialogue during the sex scenes just flat made me roll my eyes. And finally, I was disappointed in the very offensive stereotype so often found in historical fiction - the evil homosexual. Don't get me wrong - I *really* enjoyed the book, but I just can't say I was 100% pleased with everything in it. While some of the gooey romantic stuff annoyed me, I did enjoy the banter between Jamie and Claire, as well as the whole unfolding of them getting to know each other. If you look at this book purely as a romance novel, it's much better than most. If you look at it purely as literature, there are many aspects that, depending on your point of view, can be a bit cheesy. Still, I was utterly swept up in the story and couldn't put the book down, so overall I would recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Outstanding Book! Review: A friend lent me this book thought I might enjoy it. That's putting it mildly. This is an extremely well written book. It kept my attention, and desire to read more, right at the tip of my mind. I look forward to reading more of her works.
Rating: Summary: Have never read a more touching, romantic story . Review: I ran across the paperback version of Outlander in the summer of 1996 by accident.I was looking for something to read while on vacation. I thought the cover sounded interesting so I got it.Today after reading all the books from the Outlander series at least twice and telling everyone I know about them I actually feel fortunate that I ran out of reading material that summer and met Jamie and Claire. I'm waiting patiently for the next one. Please hurry Diana
Rating: Summary: Viva Outlander!! Review: I LOVE THIS BOOK!! The way Diana Gabaldon mixes mystery with romance and historical fiction is enchanting. This 850-page book I read in four days!! I couldn't put it down!
Rating: Summary: Compelling, I could not put it down! Review: I am new to the genre of Romance. Having read THE WEDDING by Garwood, I have been trying to find another that swept me to another time. This book was unbelievable. I read till late at night, then set the alarm early so I could read some more! I loved the idea of travelling from this century to the seventeenth. I loved the pure masculine idealism of Jamie. Most other novels do not portray the hero as strong, without having strong dominant love scenes. Jamie was powerful, but so respectful. He was funny and tender. And, a man who is a virgin...what a concept! Claire was strong, with a sense of humor. She had unbelievable trials without ever seeming victimized. I loved when she was at the abbey and found God. This book made the other romance novels I had read seem like trash. This book was beautiful.
Rating: Summary: This is the best book in the universe Review: I absolutely loved reading the outlander series. I have read each book at least three times. Each time I read them they get better and better. I am anxiously awaiting the fifth book "The Fiery Cross". Ill be the first in line to buy it. Keep writing more Diana, Please!!!!!
Rating: Summary: One of the best series I've ever had the pleasure to read!! Review: I can't remember when I got so caught up in a book . After I read every single one of the books,I couldn't wait for the next one in the series to come out. I am really hoping there will be a fifth book in the series. We need to find out what happens to the baby. The last one in the series, The Voyager, was just as great as all the rest, but it didn't end the whole story line for me. It left me wanting more, so I have been watching the book stores with baited breath waiting for the next one to come out. PLEASE HURRY!!!!
