Summary: Funny, quirky, sometimes sad, but always fun to read
Review: I picked this book up on a whim and I am very glad that I did. I also read the other 2 books in this trilogy but I think that this one is the best of the 3. It deals with coming of age in a humorous and often poignant way. All the characters here are well-drawn and very engaging. I loved getting to know them. For all the humor in the book, it also manages to be sad sometimes as it deals with issues we all face in life. Life is hard sometimes, and it can also be fun, as Tim Sandlin teaches us.

Summary: One of the best books I've ever read!
Review: I read this book on a trip to Green Bush Michigan. we were stuck in a cabin for a couple days stright becuase of rain. We made sure to bring lots of books (i was with my friend and her family) beucase they love to read. My friend had brought this book along and i wanted to read it after i was done witht he one i was reading. Unfortunealy someone else beat me too it so i waited and I laughed at the first page. and it bothered me that even tho Maurey had sex with Sam she didnt want to be with him. But i guess thats they way life goes. I recomend this book to almost everyone.

Summary: hugely favorable and enduringly recommendable
Review: I, too, as several other reviewers of Sandlin's work ran across this particular novel within the Gros Vont trilogy haphazardly and proceeded to read them non-sequentially. It does NOT matter, they are incredibly entertaining regardless of order. This in no way is a negative comment on Sandlin's efforts at writing the series, instead it is complimentary that they intertwine so well that it rarely matters what section of the lives of Maurey and Sam one is introduced to them in, just that they are. Maurey is such an indelible character I beseeched my wife to read this work while she was stressed witha new job and pregnant with our first child - she laughed all the way through it - and then she agreed to name our prospective daughter "Maurey!" Who doesn't choose to love a persona that frequently reflects on her mistakes with such perfect humility as to feel literally no regret in committing them again?! And Sam's innocent ignorance dutifully deigned by his mother as a perfect symbol of all male potential creates the essence of a pathetically admirable father figure - still concentrating his thoughts between his legs! All combined this series offers a truly humane and objective perspective on our current condition as a race - one creates empathy for the gender of dominance(?), the other creates respect and understanding for the true gender of control(!). It's hilariously portrayed and brilliantly dialoged. I've recommened it to many friends. Hope to see T. Sandlin's name at the top of Best Seller lists soon - on second thought , no I don't - that would contradict Maurey's persona. I hope to see T. Sandlin's works soon on the top of course syllabi for leading humanities studies courses for years to come, we'd all learn a lot more that way . . . Write On T.S.

Summary: Hilarious
Review: It's been a while since I've read a book I enjoyed so much I never wanted it to end. Unfortunately this one did end ... very quickly. Once you pick it up, you won't be able to put it down. Make this the next book you read. You won't regret it.

Summary: Tim didn't Skip Any Parts
Review: On a warm summers eve in Glendale Public Library the Book Users Group met to discuss Skipped Parts with attendees from the Jackson Hole Writers Conference leading the discussion. It was decided this was a decidedly different book from others the group had discussed. Well written was one of the early comments at which time one of the authors recanted Tim's 2 page per day writing regiment. Believability was questioned by one of those present. Particularly concerning 13 year olds. However several people found the honest presentation a good thing. Each participant drew the name of a character and gave his impression of that person. This process took up most of the time alloted for the evening. In fact most of these were interrupted to move on so the cast of characters could be covered. It was said that characters "drove" the book rather than plot. Next door to the group there meets a teenage scifi discussion group and they were shown the selection. They offered some insights into grunge generation and were able to recall some of the rock star cult leaders and how some of the music quoted Tim Sandlin. An article that appeared in the Denver newspaper was used for background. A good time was had by all.
