Rating: Summary: Another winner from Jodi Picoult! Review: Readers of Jodi Picoult's books are accustomed to her taking us on an emotional journey and My Sister's Keeper doesn't disappoint. You will be hooked from page one and you will want to read it all in one sitting. A powerful, thoughtful, emotional novel that tackles an up-to-the-minute topic. Told in the different voices of the main characters provides the reader with different sides of the same story. A wonderful read and a great discussion book!
Rating: Summary: Amazing!!! Review: I have read all of Jodi Picoult's books and have enjoyed them all. However, none of them have captivated me like this one, and none of them have been as emotional or as sad. I couldn't stop reading this book, and when it was over I couldn't stop crying. I think that it is one of the best books I've read in a really long time. It makes you think and it makes you feel. Don't miss reading this one.
Rating: Summary: Good Book Review: This was my first book of Jodi Picoult's long history of novels. I read it in one day because I was inthralled. The writing is not fantastic, in fact, it is somewhat mediocre, but I was not reading because of her style. I was reading because I was fascinated with her characters. I related to her dysfunctional family and felt as if I were one of the struggling family members. This is a captivating read because Ms. Picoult is able to weave the reader into the story so that she experiences the pain along with the joy of the family members.
Rating: Summary: jodi does it again! Review: To what lengths would you go to save your sick child? The Fitzgeralds are faced with this dilemma in Picoult's latest novel. Anna Fitzgerald has always known she's been conceived to help "heal" her older sister,Kate, but when mom and dad want her to donate a kidney to save her sister, she balks and hires a lawyer to medically emancipate her from her family. This book draws you in from page one and keeps you hooked right until the last page. Picoult's ability to take a fairly routine question and shake it up really causes the reader to think and question his/her own beliefs. What would YOU do if kate were your daughter? Have tissues handy when you read this "page-turner" that will make a perfect group discussion book.
Rating: Summary: A Definite Keeper! Review: Yet again, Ms. Picoult puts a quality work out there. It is getting harder and harder to pick a favorite! Her latest release, My Sister's Keeper, presents the issue of ideal gene selection for the purpose of conceiving a child who will be a perfect donor match for a terminally ill toddler. To what lengths would any of us go to save our loved one? What if it was at the expense of another loved one? Where do we draw the line at what constitutes quality of life? In fine Picoult style, Jodi builds and thickens the plot, so that, what may have started out as a cut and dry decision to us, leaves us questioning our thought process and moral position with each layer. A wonderful read that I'll be passing on to others in anticipation of some great discussions in the future.
Rating: Summary: Phenomenal Review: I am a huge Jodi Picoult fan, and when she told me the plot of this book at a signing, I got chills. She didn't let me down. As usual, her knack for details and subplots is excellent, creating a tremendously engaging story. Though it was clear to me who I sympathized with, I nonetheless found myself questioning my own moral principles, something I remember doing with Mercy, The Pact, and Salem Falls as well. I've become accustomed to Picoult's end-of-novel twists, but the series of events at the end of this one left me reeling. This may supplant Plain Truth as my personal favorite of hers.
Rating: Summary: What a disappointment! Review: I bought the book because of this sudden hype about Picoult. Well, folks, I hate to tell you, it's another one of those incidents where the publisher decides to sell more books by a certain author and Picoult happens to be the flavor of the month. The book has an intriguing premise, and certainly deserves a more engaging way to tell the story - something which Picoult doesn't have.
Rating: Summary: Thought provoking drama Review: Thirteen year old Anna Fitzgerald knows why she was born in vitro with a near perfect genetic match so that her body can serve as spare parts to keep her older sister Kate alive ever since her sibling was diagnosed with leukemia. As Kate suffered numerous relapses, Anna's platelets, bone marrow, and umbilical cord stem cells have been used to keep the older sister alive. Their parents Sara and Brian demand that Anna donate a kidney to Kate. As her older brother Jesse turns to arson over his frustrations with his family's motto of Kate only, Anna has grown tired of being a harvest. She hires attorney Campbell Alexander to represent her in court in an attempt to get a judgment stopping her parents from using her body anymore. Sara, who is obsessed with keeping her beloved Kate alive at all costs, feels betrayed by her youngest child while her husband understands the immense pressure on his youngest daughter. Anna wants to help Kate because she loves her sister, but knows that it must be her decision not a mom who sees her as a biological feeder mechanism. MY SISTER'S KEEPER is a reflective deep look at a family in crisis due to a long term health problem of one of the members. The story line is at its best when Jodi Picoult inspires readers to ponder intense philosophical questions on right and wrong that would turn Ayn Rand's head spinning in moral dilemmas. Though the melodramatic ending is too neat a wrap-up even with a twist, readers who appreciate a novel that provides a profundity that few tales possess will want to peruse this thought provoking drama. Rating: Summary: Absolutely wonderful! Review: This is the first novel by Jodi Picoult that I have read. I picked it up because the title intrigued me ( I have three sisters) but almost put it back down after reading that the subject matter dealt with a child and illness, normally these kinds of stories disturb me. I'm so glad I didn't pass it up! It is fantastic!! I started it on a Thursday evening and finished it by Friday morning as I could not put it down. The novel tells the story of one child's battle with leukemia and the effects this struggle has on the other members of her family, most especially her younger sister who was conceived with the intent to provide the sick child with a perfectly matched donor. The story is told from the perspective of each family member and contains an ending that took me completely by surprise. This is easily one of the best books I have ever read. Ms. Picoult is a very fine writer and I look forward to reading more of her novels in the future!
Rating: Summary: BEST BOOK I EVER READ!! Review: I HAVE NEVER READ ANY OF JODI PICOULT'S BOOKS BUT I WILL READ ALL OF THEM NOW! I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO ANYBODY.
