Summary: Heartbroken!
Review: This is my first Jodi Picoult's book, and it's definitely not going to be the last one. Once you start reading this book, you definitely can't put this book down, you just want to keep reading and know what's going to happen. It's a really sad book. I feel sorry that Christ was the only person with Emily when the gun shout happened, and everyone thinks he is the killer. Because that, he had been through a lot in the jail and also the pain of losing Emily. I's also really heartbroekn that Christ loves Emily so much, but Emily isn't happy in this world! For a teenage couple, the way they love and feel about each other really touched me. Also Jodi Picoult described the entire plot very detaily, especially the testmony and court part ( some people think it's dragging too much, but I personaly didn't feel that way). The reason I can't give this book 5 starts because there are many questions left inside me after I finished reading the book. I didn't get answers from the author and I want them to be answered. I guess Jodi Picoult wants us to use our own imagination. Even though it's a heartbreaking novel,I still strongly recommended this book.

Summary: Gorgeous & Heartbreaking
Review: I would have to say that "The Pact" was the best novel I have read in quite a while. The format in which it was written made it so much better--going back and forth from past and present. The author was able to truly capture the essence of the human spirit in this novel. I was amazed by it and found it to be very beautiful. This book was somewhat about a crime, and it could have been a cheesy crime drama, but she was able to build so much around it that it became a wonderful novel. This was a novel that once I opened it, I wanted to do nothing but continue reading it. It felt so real, and some sections of the novel were almost heartbreaking. What I loved about this book, is that Ms. Picoult was able to portray love and grief, without cliches, it was portrayed originally and beautifully, and that it why it is such an outstanding novel.

Summary: Emotionally Compelling...
Review: Ok, let me start by saying this...I love reading books. Especially books that really touch my soul. This book, although the story was very well thought out and it does trigger certain emotions in you, it is not one that i have enjoyed reading. Yes, i cried at the end, cried for the characters and for what they lost (life, love and lifelong friendship, on everyone's account) but did i enjoy to read it. NO! Personally, i like positive books, ones where i can smile at the end. This book made me mad. Of course i was happy with the end result of the trial, but i was very upset and angry with how the lives of the characters turned out.

Summary: Highly intriguing....
Review: I bought The Pact looking for a good read, and was not disappointed. I could not put it down. Picoult's writing was strong, fast paced, and the ideas in the story were very intriguing to me... how well do any of us ever know our children? How do events that happened earlier shape our lives? How close can two people be?

The only drawback which made it not suitable for my book club is the themes dealing with sex and a tad bit of language. I thought these themes were very well done, and true to life, but was very surprised to find them in the book, as the back cover blurb said nothing about them. If you can see the value of some scenes of that nature, to express a point, develop a character, etc... than I could reccommend this book with a clear conscience. If you prefer not to read things of that nature, I'd pass this one up...

Summary: Yikes!!
Review: This was my first Jodi Picoult book and quite possibly my last. I found the first few chapters interesting enough to continue, but the book just seemed to drag on and on and on....
In the end to propose the idea that a 17 year old boy would make a decision to assist his girlfriend with suicide is outrageous to say the least. The author suggests to the reader that he loved her enough to end her pain. You call that love? I call that stupidity. If as a reader you aren't aware that suicide is the "easy" way out, you surely aren't going to be corrected by Jody Picoult. I pray no one ever loves me the way Chris loved Emily, I'd rather have a man willing to call the suicide hotline any day. She wants us to believe that in a vivid stretch of the imagination it is beautiful. Please. She can't be serious.
This sappy little so called love story had me wishing I hadn't wasted my time or money.

Summary: Another riveting story by Picoult
Review: I'm relatively new to Jodi Picoult's books, with The Pact being my 4th one of hers I've read, but I can say with confidence that I will be a fan for life. I am always intrigued and captivated by her stories, her characters, and the fact that I sit on the edge of my seat turning pages feverishly is one activity I've come to associate with her books. The Pact is no exception.

Teenagers Chris Harte and Emily Gold are many things to each other -- at first neighbors, then best friends, and eventually ended up falling in love. Having grown up next door to each other for 17 years, it was only expected of them to be together -- a fact that pleases both sets of parents. But a call comes in the middle of the night, the one call dreaded by every parent -- there's been an accident and Chris is in the hospital and Emily is dead. Chris admits to the authorities that Emily's death is the cause of a suicide pact that was never completed -- he passed out before he could actually kill himself. But with any unnatural death, there has to be an investigation, and the Medical Examiner's conclusions point to things that, instead of suicide, might spell MURDER.

This book was a very intense roller coaster for all involved. The relationship between Chris and Emily's parents, once so strong and supporting, now lies crumbled and torn down with accusations and blame. Emotions run high for each of the parents individually -- how could they not know that their children were suicidal? And if it really is murder, what was the reason for it? I found The Pact highly emotional and very riveting and it places the reader in the shoes of each parent, wondering in which side to empathize with the most. I loved it and can't wait to read the rest of her novels that I have on my shelf.

Summary: A Page Turner
Review: This is a great read for book clubs. There is a lot to analyze about the characters, and the families. The book is well written, but does leave lots of unanswered questions which made for a great discussion in my group.

Parts of the book veered toward the sappy, as advertised by the "Lifetime Television Movie" sticker on the front, but for the most part this was an engrossing read.

Summary: A love tragedy..............
Review: "The Pact" was an astonishing novel of two soul mates, Chris and Emily. They knew each other since the day they were born and grew up to love one another more than anything in the world. Unfortunately, Emily discovered she was pregnant and couldn't face becoming a dissapointment to the rest of the world. Her only way out was suicide, and because Chris would do anything to make her happy, he helped her kill herself. This book was one of the best I have ever read; it was impossible to put down. Every customer seems to love the twisted psychological tale, and important lessons can be learned about the consequences of actions and about living life to its fullest. "The Pact" recieves my highest praise.

Summary: The best book i have read in a long time!!!
Review: Jodi Picoult at age 35 has written 8 novels. Her books are mostly about love, family and relationships that she based on her own life. She graduated from Princeton and got her masters degree at Harvard. She mostly learned how to write at Princeton when she took creative writing with Mary Morris.

The Pact was one of the best books I have ever read. It's a book that keeps you reading, once you start you cant put it down. Emily and Chris were friends ever since they were born; it later developed into a relationship. Emily was dealing with some issues that Chris never knew about. She felt that the only way out was suicide. Leaving Chris behind caused him to be charged with her murder. I also liked the set up of the book, the flashbacks in the particular. It explained a lot of the things that the readers would of missed out on if they weren't there. Once I got into the book I had a really hard time putting it down. Hearing about Chris's time in jail was interesting because I had never imaged what people in jail feel like and it gave me a small glimpse of what it may be like. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes love stories.

Summary: Exceptional Book !
Review: This is an exceptional book! I just could not put it down. The picture Picoult paints of Chris and Emily is so vivid that you feel you are part of the book. I was almost sad as I was nearing the last pages of the book since I felt so connected to the story and the characters. Her writing does an excellent job develping all the characters and the storylines. It shows all aspects of relationships - friends, lovers, siblings, family, collegues and the emotions one goes through - love, pain, completeness, exhilaration, confusion, anger, guilt, shame, persistence.... I have not read a book this good in a LONG time.
