Summary: How well do you know your family?
Review: I read Plain Truth and loved it so I was excited to read more of Picoult's work. I was not disappointed. This book was so engrossing that I had a hard time putting it down. The story opens with one teenager dead of a gunshot wound to the head, and another charged with her murder. The twist comes in the fact that the two were not only boyfriend/girlfriend, but had grown up together since birth. Chris, the boyfriend, claims that he and Emily (the deceased girlfriend)had a suicide pact that went wrong. The reader is constantly in doubt as to whether Chris is telling the truth or not. In flashbacks one sees how Chris and Emily's relationship develops, and also how she became suicidal without her parents, friends, or teachers knowing. Deeply moving, the reader will be left to question whether Chris really did murder Emily, or if she did it herself. It also asks the question, "What would you do for love?"

Summary: A Story of Soul Mates
Review: The Hartes and the Golds have been best friends for years. They've shared everything: pregnancy, Chinese food, and a strong love for their children. So, it comes as a surprise to no one when their son and daughter, Chris and Emily, fall in love and start dating at age 13.

What does come as a surprise is being called to the hospital late one night. Emily is dead of a gunshot wound, and Chris is badly injured. He says it was a suicide pact. The authorities, however, aren't so sure, and soon accuse Chris of Emily's murder.

The tension throughout this book, as to what really happened to Emily, is palpable. Until the very end, I found myself believing BOTH stories depending on who was telling the tale. The prison and courtroom scenes were well-researched and compelling, and the relationship between Chris and Emily's parents make a wonderful sub-plot.

Most of all, this book made me think a great deal about what love can, and cannot, make us do for other people and for ourselves. I was terribly impressed with this book by Picoult, and look forward to reading more of her work.

Summary: Page Turner
Review: This book was the first I've read by Jodi Picoult and found that I could not put it down! However, in the end, I found that I wanted the loose ends to be tied up. For instance, what was in the diary that her mother found, read and burned? Who was sexually abusing her, if not her own mind with Chris? Maybe I just missed something. All in all, I think for myself, it's worth another read to find out.

Summary: The Pact
Review: This book was amazing and I couldn't put it down! The plot is about a guy Chris that is thought to have murdered his gierlfriend and best friend since birth, Emily. He insists that it was a suicide pact and the police got there before Chris had a chance to shoot himself. The prosecutors don't believe his story, so they take him to court to attempt to charge him with a life sentence. This story was written beautifully though some parts were a bit risque.

Summary: Starts with a ''Bang'' & never stops...
Review: What a great book ! If I could I would give it 10*.
This is the story of Emily & Chris, it is their love story, yet in the first pages Emily dies, Chris lives...a suicide pact ? or murder ? Chris & Emily seem to have everything any 17 year old would want plus loving parents that are also best friends, so what went wrong ?
The author Jodi Picoult does a beautiful job, she switches from ''Then'' to ''Now'' in order to go back in time and find the answers to try and make sense of it all. These two families are facing a crisis and each one of them deals with it in their own way. Their lives become complicated and unbalanced. This is how friendships can be so easily broken. Nothing is ever black or white...what pressure teenagers impose on themselves or do we as parents impose on them ? The story deals with so many questions...the writing is strong and passionate. Do parents really know their children ? Do they talk to them enough ? Can loving someone be enough to justify a suicide pact or even a murder ? How far will parents go to protect their children or even to protect themselves ? Can suicide be the only answer ?
The author paints a deeply moving picture of strong emotions... disbelief, sorrow, pain, guilt, fear, hate, a gripping tale that concludes in an anticipated court drama... the suspense is almost unbearable. I could not put this book down, the characters will stay with me for a long time.

Summary: Incredible!
Review: This is the third book I have read by Jody Picoult and she is certainly my favorite author now. The first was "The Plain Truth", the second which I could not put down was "Keeping Faith" and now "The Pact". All of her books are so completely different, not like some of the same "been there..done that" type book where you can guess the ending. Her books keep you thinking about the characters and especially the way she ends each of her books.
When I was growing up my mother always told me that in a relationship there is always one person who loves more. In this book I kept thinking of that when it came to Chris. This is not a book I will forget quickly.

Summary: The pact
Review: "The Pact" is a wonderful novel about an unusual love story between two teenagers but with a macabre twist. The story is compeling from page one, a typical Jodi Picoult book, very hard to put down, but unlike the other novels that I've read by her this one seemed to have a very contrived ending. The end reminded me of the ending for "Perfect Match" which was truly a remarkable novel. I felt let down by characterisation towards the end. Emily comes across as manipulative and selfish to have compelled Chris to obey her wishes, and not as sweet and loving as she has been portrayed all along. She appears as far more dominant which is out of character. Despite this it is still a great read.

Summary: Heartbreaking
Review: As many reviewers did, I read this book in 1 sitting. The reason I couldn't put it down was because it told a story very similar to one of my own. As a child & teenager, I was raised in a family similar to the Golds and lived next door to a family similar to the Hartes. We were as intertwined as they were -- sharing vacations, holidays and relationship that went beyond neighbors and friends. It ended when my "Chris Harte" broke our engagement after our mothers planned a wedding to finally unite our two families into one. My heart was wrenched by Picoult's story and I felt deeply the loss of the relationship between the families. It was encouraging, however, that someone else had thought of a tragedy that echoed my own so similarly.

Summary: a beautifully written page turner
Review: A friend and I were looking for a book similar to Sparks. He found this and so we each bought a copy. We couldnt put it down. 'The Pact' captures you from the very first page. Just when you think you have it figured out BAM there is another twist. It says Love Story in the title, but this is not your typical love story. This is the story of two young lovers who were born and raised together. Destined for each other. Until one evening something happens that changes both of there lives forever. Shes dead and he is accused of killing her. but what really happened that night in November at the carousel. You think you know? Read it to find out.
