Rating: Summary: A good book to that has many twists. Review: I gave The Pact five starts because it had a very good topic and it relates very well to various situations that different aged people go through. The book was set up in a weird way, at first it was kind of hard to figure out where the story was going and who was the narrorator. I like the way the story twisted in all directions throughout the whole book. I liked The Pact a lot because it was a page turner with new information that we didn't know before one every page. Once I started reading this book I didn't want to put it down.
Rating: Summary: Is it possible to be in love with a book? Review: This was the first novel that I read by Ms. Picoult. I do not normally read novels in her genre but my mother gave it to me and one night, when I had virtually dug through my bookshelf for something to read and came up with nothing, I took "The Pact" out and began to read. I was INSTANTLY trapped within its pages. I have never cried, laughed, or felt when reading a book as much as I had with this one. Since my first time reading it, I have recommended it to numerous friends and I even wrote the Oprah Winfrey show in hopes of having her put it on her book-of-the month club. And now I recommend it to all of you who are reading this review. A cautionary note: This book will swaddle you in a blanket of emotions and trap you with its words. It is nearly impossible to put this book down without finishing it. Make sure that you have plenty of quiet solitude to enjoy this masterpiece and make sure to bring plenty of tissues.
Rating: Summary: WOW Review: This is most definately one of the greatest books of all time. No other book has ever kept me so involved like this one. I could never put it down. Now, I am going to read every other book this author has written, because if they are even half as good as this one, it's worth my time. BUY IT!
Rating: Summary: A Very Good Book!! Review: This is the first novel that I read by Jodi Picoult. I was just passing by it in the bookstore and picked it up on a whim, (which is something I never do) because I thought the art on the cover was interesting, But in this case boy, am I glad I did!! The story centers around two families: the Hartes and the Golds. They have lived next door to each other for years, shared their homes and their lives, not to mention raised their children together. So, it stands to reason that Emily Harte grow up as best friends and become lovers. The reader really becomes immersed in the book very early on when Chris becomes embroiled in the drama of a suicide pact gone awry. Jodi Picoult rally has a knack for writing about rather disturbing subjects with a cast of characters that the reader really learns to care about.
Rating: Summary: = A very good book! Review: This is the first book that I read by Jodi Picoult. I was just passing by it in the book store and boy, am I glad I did!! The other two books I have read by Ms. Picoult are just as good as this one if not better. The Pact centers around two families: the Hartes and the Golds. They have lived next door to each other for years, raised their children together. So, it would only stand to reason that Chris Harte and Emily Gold grow up together and become lovers. It's almost like Chris and Emily are different halves of the same person. The readerreally becomes immersed in the book when Chis Harte is embroiled in the drama of a suicide pact gone awry. Jodi Picoult really has a knack for writing about rather disturbing subjects with a cast of characters that the reader really learns to care about.
Rating: Summary: I LOVE IT!! Review: I recently read The Pact by Jodi Picoult. This story was about a relationship that kept growing since birth. Two people, Emily and Chris, loved each other so much that they would rather die than hurt each other. Jodi Picoult was born in 1966. She got a BA from Princeton University, and then she went to Harvard University. She published The Pact in 1998. Many other novels were written by this author. Some of those books include: Songs of Humpback Whale, Harvesting the Heart, Picture Perfect, Mercy, Keeping Faith, Plain Truth, and Salem Falls. I am definately looking forward to reading more of her writing. This book has become one of my favorite novels. It kept me interested from the first page to the last. There were even times when I became emotionally involved in some parts of the book. When a sad event happens, and all the sudden your eyes well up with water, then thats when you can tell that the book did what it was supposed to do. The type of love Chris and Emily had for wach other is very rare. They were basically one person stuck oin two different bodies. When Emily becomes pregnant, she fears that both sets of parents would never understand therefore she decides to commit suicide with Chris at her side. When he survives, he gets blames for the death of his love and gets put in jail. I rate this book as a 5 because i couldn't be any better.
Rating: Summary: Too many loose ends Review: Jodi Picoult is one of my absolute favorite authors and as such it pains me to write an unfavorable review of one of her books. I just didn't find this to be as compelling as other books of hers that I have read. I actually found myself skimming the last few chapters trying to find something to sink my teeth into. Its the story of a suicide pact between two teenagers that has gone awry. Chris and Emily's families have been friends since before they were born and the two were inseparable as kids growing up. In adolescence they become more than friends as was hoped by both families. It is Emily's idea to commit suicide and its her death that distroys the two families friendship and the life of Chris, the survior of the Pact. Maybe my expectations were too high knowing what Ms. Picoult is capable of writing, but this book just didn't capture my attention like others have. I found there to be far too many loose ends and unanswered questions. Often the book seemed to be taking off in a very interesting direction only to divert back on the main course, never returning to the interesting parts. Additionally, many of the characters were underdeveloped or superflous to the plot. Overall, I'd rate it a C.
Rating: Summary: The Best Book Ever!` Review: This book kept me on the edge of my seat with all the twists and turns, I would suggest this book anyday of the week!
Rating: Summary: An Amazing Book Review: From the moment that I picked up this book, I could not put it down. This was the first book by Jodi Picoult that I have read and I loved it. It was the first book that I have read in a long time that I was actually emotionally involved in. The story is about two children, Chris and Emily, who have literally spent their entire lives together when one night, Emily is dead and Chris is alive from what appears to be a botched Double Suicide. However, things do not add up to the police, and Chris is arrested for murder. The author does a great job of using the past and present to tell this story. Through the flashbacks, one sees the life that the two children had, and how much Chris and Emily l oved each other. You also see what good friends the Harte's and the Gold's were to each other, so much that they considered each other extended family. You see that Chris and Emily were never really separated from each other for more than a few minutes and how their friendship turned into something the parents wanted. However, with Chris Accused of Murder, the reader begins to see how each person between the two families change. I would love to go more in depth into the story, but that would give it away for whoever decides to read it. What I will say is that it is not a happy story. It is a very, very sad story and when you read it, you will become emotionally involved in the story as I did.
Rating: Summary: The pact Review: Over all I really enjoyed this book. I liked it because it kept me guessing the whole time. I liked how the author jumped from past to future for every chapter. It was an interesting effect. I also liked the book because you have no clue what is going to happen until the last few pages. I really enjoy love stories and suspence. This book had both features wrapped up in it. I would definatly read this book again, and encourage anyone thinking about reading it to do so. I hope you enjoy it as much as iI did.
