Summary: A female hero worth rooting for.
Review: In all my days, I haven't seen an admirable female hero. With Lara Croft being the perfect ideal, I'd rather choke myself do death with a sock than read a story about her. What Chuck presents us with is a real look at not only the female aspect of life, but, as he always does, deeper undertones. He makes us question what's worth it, and what's not. This narrator, this strange female hero that she is, is one of the most positive of main characters I have ever witnessed. Bravo, Chuck. You deliver, again.

Summary: Plenty of room for improvement
Review: While the storyline in this book is interesting, the plot twists intriguing (yet somewhat predictable if you've read the author before or seen Fight Club), and the characters hysterically dysfunctional... this book could have used another run by the editor. Like his editor's comment quoted in the front "This isn't good enough." Though that comment was supposed to refer to previous versions of the novel, it applies equally well to this "final product."

Palahniuk has got something here with the drug-addled, body mutilating, self-distorting characters, but the reader is constantly distracted by editorial mistakes and gross grammatical errors. FINISH A SENTANCE ALREADY. PUT THOSE COMMAS WHERE THEY BELONG. Yes, yes, some authors DO effectively use bad grammar to make a point, especially when creating dialogue between characters, but this is just distracting and lazy. Not to mention the editorial errors where a similar word is put in place of the one that I hope he meant to use. When I buy a book, I want someone to have proofread it for me... just a personal issue I guess.

As distracting as all that was, I did read this book while attending a mandatory "communications" seminar (let me tell you about that sometime) and found that it filled the void nicely. A little predictable and definitely not his best work, but I did keep thinking about it after I closed the cover and that's always a good sign.

Summary: TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE!
Review: Slow to start, complicated and kind of hard to follow, but the twists and turns make this a very good read. Not a life changing book, but entertaining and well written. I love chucks style of writing, he makes you love him. This is a book I read over because of the shock value.

Summary: Amazing!!
Review: This one was the first I read of Palahniuk and I know it will not be the last!! He is a genius!! This one is about Shannon - a model whose face is mutilated in a freak accident...and then she meets Brandy Alexander - the queen drag who is just an operation away from being a female..

from thereon starts the journey of self-discovery(may be), of knowing that beauty isn't only skin deep..that there is more - much more to it...a rollercoaster of emotions and the painful yet true fact of "the attention seeking" universe we have become!

Invisible Monsters breaks all cliches at the same time while being funny! There is a tinge of sadness and attempt to potray loneliness at its worst...a must read for all Palahniuk beginners!

Summary: Disappointing...
Review: After Fight Club, I was pretty damn excited to get my hands on this book. However, my joy was short-lived. Like other reviewers, I found the characters, and the plot to be formulaic. The only reason I stuck with it to the end, was because I refused to believe the book could be that dull throughout. I was wrong.

Instead of allowing me to escape from the drudgery of my bar job, this book actually made me want to get back to work. My employer wishes to thank you, Mr Palahniuk.

Summary: Insightful, insane
Review: The characters are larger than life, but the themes are all too human. Those who can read this for the satire that it is will see a lot of themselves in the characters on these pages. A book short enough to pick up and read again periodically, and good enough that it's worth doing.

Summary: exceeded expectations
Review: Well, after reading Choke (also by Palahniuk) I expected Invisible Monsters to be somewhat intruiging, yet mostly disappointing. Invisible Monsters started off somewhat slow, and somewhat confusing. . .but completely picked up pace and made me not want to put it down. . . it had a great flow and awesome twists. As soon as I was done I wanted to read it agin. This book was very well written. I definately suggest this book!

Summary: Well . . . It's definitely Chuck Palahniuk.
Review: I have to agree with other reviewers on how some parts of this book get tired, and how the characters remind one a bit too much of Fight Club and Tyler Durden.

Once again, this is a book told by a nameless narrator who was once a beautiful fashion model but lost most of her face in a freak accident (which is revealed to be a not-so-freakish accident in the end) who goes on a roadtrip with a transsexual and a guido-type.

I found some aspects of the novel to be a bit to nihilistic in sentiment, and the "Jump to" "Give me . . . Flash" got VERY tired VERY fast. Also, the end of the novel had resolutions that all tied together a bit too nicely for my taste.

Summary: A little too surreal?
Review: I just finished reading this book yesterday after setting it down for a month. I enjoyed this book alot until I got somewhere near the end and things got so coincidential. I just think it went way over the edge, and there is nothing wrong with that- its just not my taste. If you are a Palahniuk fan I think you will really enjoy reading this book or at least the majority of it... but if you have never read any of his books try Fight Club or Survivor first!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Beauty isn't everything
Review: I loved chucks point of view of beauty in a America. Having someone write about a model, the way he did, is so great. The point of it all was simple but with this twisted story behind it gives you an interesting out look on beauty.
HIs stories are always wounderful and he can always seem to keep on shocking the reader.
