Rating: Summary: Twisted and delightful... Review: Every now and then, the avid reader will encounter an author with an imagination so incredible, they are awe-inspired. That is how I feel about Chuck Palahniuk, whose stories are ALWAYS extraordinary. (Color me happy that his new book will be released in fall 2002!)In Invisible Monsters, the protagonist takes the reader on a journey through her life as a horribly disfigured former model. While rehabilitating herself, she crosses paths with a gorgeous trans-sexual. Together, they journey through both geography and psyche. This is an incredible story, with dramatic twists. Highly recommended. Incidentally, don't judge this author by the commonly known "Fight Club". It certainly isn't his best.
Rating: Summary: Great writing, a little too easy at times though Review: This book is written in a wonderful fashion. I love the characters, the narrative, and the art of it all. My only problem is that, at times, the author seems to take the easy way out in terms of plot. I don't want to give anything away, but this book seems to have much of the Fight Club formula. I think that's where my problems with this book arose, I felt like I had been there before and seen it before. I will say this, however, he does a great job writing about people on the edge. I would pick this book up and read it, its entertaining.
Rating: Summary: I don't know what just happened, but I like it Review: The way that Palahniuk sets things up seemingly at random right before your eyes without you realizing it is amazing. Then, when you think you're already lost, he sets the events off, one after another, until theres nothing left but this strange look on your face, and you're left saying: I need more. Read Invisible Monsters and you'll never stop wondering. Read Survivor and you'll never stop laughing. Read Choke and you'll never stop thinking. Palahniuk is the lunatic that we need right now.
Rating: Summary: Palahniuk's Best Review: Invisible Monsters is not something to be missed. If you enjoyed Fight Club (usually the first of his books to be read), you're in for a good time. Chuck takes on the female narative, a wise-cracking, exhausted-by-life female model who, in a bizarre turn on events, is suddenly shunned by the world. Enter Princess Brandy Alexander, Alfa Romeo and the crazy, chubby Evie. You will be in stitches, and you will be thinking HARD.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic Review: I JUST finished reading Invisible Monsters, and I thought it was absolutely amazing. Fight Club initially made me a Palahniuk fan, Invisible Monsters made me a bigger fan. This book is about a disfigured model who has to find herself in life, sort through it all, and rediscover what life is. Invisible Monsters is incredibly funny sometimes, other times, it's really deep and serious, with deep themes abound. I would recommend this book to anyone who liked Fight Club.
Rating: Summary: chuck palahniuk's best Review: I've read all of his books and thought this was the most interesting twists. It was hard to put down. I highly suggest this book to anyone. It doesn't have the most socially acceptable comedy, but if you enjoyed fight club you'll love this.
Rating: Summary: Visible Talent Review: First, I'll start off by saying 'Invisible Monsters' is my first Chuck Palahniuk book. Invisible Monsters isn't what you'd expect, to say the least... It's about a 'paid programming' model who gets severely disfigured in an car 'accident', and it leaves her depressed, and much more pensive than her old petty little worries. I don't wanna spoil anything, so I'll just say that its one of those 'expect the unexpected' books.
Rating: Summary: The last third makes the book Review: Like Palahnuik's other works, this book starts off with a bang, but unlike his others, this quickly goes to a whimper. I really was hoping for more and in the first 2/3 of this book, I did not get it. I found it all to be very bland and predictable. Thankfully, the last third made up for a lot of the blandness of the beginning. Due to complexities of the characters and some of the situations, a lot of back story had to be told, which slowed the pace of the book, but once the back stories are told, things start to pick up and everything falls into place. I would compare this book to a big jigsaw puzzle that someone is trying to put together without a picture to go by. When your putting it together you can only guess what the final outcome is. It is not until near the end that you get to see and enjoy everything. With some patience and determination, you will enjoy this book.
Rating: Summary: very talented writer but shallow subjects Review: I found the book to be addictive, funny, and extrememly well written...but the characters in "Invisible Monsters" are shallow and read like campy cartoon characters...a very talented writer who should tackle deeper issues and develop more sophisticated characters...
Rating: Summary: GIRL WITH OUT A FACE Review: SO YEAH FIGHT CLUB WAS GOOD, BUT IT DOESENT COMPARE TO HOW AMAZING THIS BOOK IS. I WOULD WRITE A BREIF DISCRIPTION OF THE BOOK, BUT IT WOULD RUIN IT. ALSO AFTER YOU READ THIS. READ CHOKE. ITS REALLY GOOD TOO.
