Rating: Summary: Out of this world!! Review: This is one of the most enthralling novels I've ever read. Its a differenet experience alltogether. Its hard to imagine that Mr.Gary Jennings was actually not with Marco Polo during his trip.Especially the part about India is good.
Rating: Summary: You will be swept into the time of your life! Review: More happens by page 65 than most books give you in their entirty! I hate looking for the next good read and this is 1000 pages of amazement. Characters you'll love living with, events beyond your wildest imagination and a ring of truth that comes down through the ages.
Rating: Summary: No better read! Review: In a nutshell, the best book I've ever read. If you see it, grab it, and prepare for the adventure of a lifetime. Forget TV, forget the movies - nothing will excite your imagination quite like this book. I personally also take credit for introducing Gary Jennings to a large group of Durbanites (South Africa) who will agree whoeheartedly with my sentiments. I have also read Gary Jennings' other books, and have never been disappointed.
Rating: Summary: The Journeyer can really take you away! Review: I picked up a copy of The Journeyer at the newsstand at the Bremen, Germany, airport because we were expecting a long layover at Heathrow, and it was the largest paperback on the rack. Little did I know just how much this book would affect me! I could not put it down! This "untold" story of Marco Polo's travels was captivating, enthralling and just plain fun. I became a Jennings fan, and now have all his books in hardcover (except Spangle.) I have not been able to find Spangle yet, I hope Amazon can. I wrote Mr. Jennings and had a very nice personal letter from him. It sounded just like him! I wish Aztec Autumn had been as wonderful as Journeyer, Raptor and Aztec...three of my all-time favorite books!
Rating: Summary: The Best Book I Have Ever Read!! Review: My favorite book of all time. If anyone asks me if I know of any good books - and if they have the heart for it, The Journeyer is one that I recommend to them. I can still see so clearly in my mind several scenes. I wake up at night with a vague recollection of a dream then realize that it was a story from this book. I finshed Aztec two weeks ago and was absolutely entertained by Dark Cloud's life story, his humour, his philosophy on living and his devistating realization of love. I join all the Jennings supporters in giving The Journeyer and Aztec a perfect 10 in the world of historical fiction.
Rating: Summary: The reader will feel like the adventure was their's. Review: Do not be put off by the notion that The Journeyer is a book of history, as the central character of Marco Polo seems to suggest. It was written for someone who would like to share an adventure, not study it. The future reader will embark on a virtual journey alongside Marco Polo. A story of incredible breadth, The Journeyer is great reading and will provide you with what will seem like actual memories of another time and place.
Rating: Summary: Gary Jennings' books Review: I read "The Journeyor" during lunch over a period of several weeks. By my desk there was a large world map, which I used to keep track of the Polo family's whereabouts. Mr. Jennings didn't miss a single landmark on the trip! I learned of "Aztec" in 1984, read it, and have read everything of his since. "Aztec Autumn" was sort of a disappointment, and I rate it at the bottom of the list (all by itself). "Spangle" was a hard one to find, so I tried the library (DUH!!) and a couple days later I was wrapped up in the history of the circus. I wish every book I've ever read were as captivating as these.
Rating: Summary: What a great read! Review: I have a great affection for this book. I sincerely rate it as among the top three of my best list. There was way I could put this book down, and carried it everywhere with me. I have an older copy and lend it out a couple of times every year to friends who I know will just love it. What a joy from Gary Jennings. This is what all fiction should be.
Rating: Summary: A Favorite Book of Mine for Several Years Review: Gary Jennings is, by far, my favorite author. Journeyer is the first book of his that I ever read, because at that time, my mother deemed me too young for Raptor. Well....now I have read Raptor too and Journeyer is not much more tame. However, I learned a lot from it (and we are not only talking sex), and it made me want to read more of his writing.
Rating: Summary: My most remarkable book reading experience ever. Review: The Journeyer pulls you into the epic of Marco Polo's life as vividly as if you were there. His wonders will be your wonders. Marco will have you scrabbling for a detailed topographical map to follow his footprints, boat, horse, or camel, over every conceivable terrain and culture. You may also use it to find your way if you lag behind in your breathlessness.
