Rating: Summary: The ending took my breath away Review: Excellent book. It reminds me of things I have been through and things I see my friends going through over the years. The book tells of how playing games can lead to tragedy. The ending was such a shock to me, I was definitely fooled about what was going to happen.
Rating: Summary: That's ENTERTAINMENT! Review: I have three words for this book: gripping, mesmerizing, and explosive. I define a good book as a book that simply does not really allow me to put it aside to do my day-to-day things like dishes, laundry, carpooling, etc. This book achieved that in spades.Based around two very different families that are headed for a relationship collision, which is inevitable from the first page, the story follows Reginald's struggle to overcome his self-indulgent choices of the pasts. While reading, I had very strong emotions about the family members actions and feelings while they strive to get through all the drama that occurs in their lives. The author engaged me with her ability to make each scene authentic while keeping a captivating & exciting storyline. The secondary characters were also very engaging. We've all thought of completely escaping from our own lives, waifing off to our own time and space, right? This book has the capivation and characterization to do that for you, as it did for me. I was able to picture the scenes in my head as if I were watching a film. To whoever's reading this review: This book is a great read. Get yourself a few pillows, grab a cup of cocoa, and get ready for an extended sitting of escapism!
Rating: Summary: This one's for the mature audiences! A true pageturner! Review: If you're looking for a book that grabs you at the very beginning, this is it. If you want a book that will leave your head spinning, this is it. Written at a marvelously quick pace, Black still manages to convey anger, frustration, revenge, malice, jealousy and deceit, while balancing it against love, regret, and family endurance. The reader truly cares about the fate of the two families involved in this dysfunction. This is a powerful work that's clearly not intended for prudes, or young readers. The characters are real, and the actions definite. A caution: if you are a prude about explicit sexuality, this is not the book for you. However, for those who don't mind the eroticism aspects of reading, the couplings are riveting. I don't tend to think about a story once I've moved on, but the ending scene is so stunning, so desperate....so powerful, and so well-told that, yes, I still think about the situation two days or so after finishing the book.
Rating: Summary: The PERFECT Pageturning Story Review: I loved everything about this book! I relate well to Reginald's wife Tracy, she's the type of woman that most of us women find ourselves becoming at some point when we feel distanced from our mates. The book is exciting, dramatic, mysterious and clever. The characters are interesting. Completing this book will leave you feeling the need to write the author and DEMAND a follow up of some sort! I would also LOVE to see a movie! I would be so eager and happy to see how well the actors would portray these very complex characters and make them come to life! I could see it being a movie to watch over and over again, it would probably be just as addicting as Millenia Black's spicy book! If you read ANY book, THIS is the one to read! --.
Rating: Summary: Good to the Last Drop Review: This book was good to the last drop. The ending left me wanting more and I wonder if there will be a sequel. This man is a dog living a double, self-serving life. I couldn't believe the things he did and the lies he told to do them! There are many victims of this deception that went on for so many years and when Reginald finally decides to let the cat out of the bag, all you know what breaks loose. It's a great rollercoaster ride to find out what happens to these people next. This book was good from start to finish and is highly recommended. Unique storyline, never read a story quite like this before. - Lanamere Johansen
Rating: Summary: Great characters, but ending left me hanging. Review: Millenia Black has created a cast of awesomely memorable characters, of course, most notably the infuriating but endearing Reginald Brooks. The perils of committing to marriage and the need to continue sewing selfish oats are illustrated and conveyed well by this such story. I enjoyed the pacing of the book, it kept it exciting for me as I read. My only disappointment was the seemingly abrupt conclusion, because I felt short-changed given the complexity of the relationships and the characters. Needless to say, a sequel has to be a definite must. Nonetheless, as a reader, I enjoyed taking this ride.
Rating: Summary: What a great book! Review: This is an edge-of-your-seat kind of book that revolves around a man leading two lives. This book will totally grip you as you follow the exploits of Reginald, and the havoc he plays on his unsuspecting family. The sex scenes are sizzling, but the story carries a moral and the read is fast-paced and thoroughly enjoyable. If you're looking for a great book, this is the one!
Rating: Summary: What comes first, fidelity or gratifying esxual lust? Review: This novel is priceless, really! It loudly exemplifies societies deficit to place priority on fidelity. Yes! Fidelity contains respect, honor, loyalty, dignity, protection and all the host of other virtuous emotions that embraces selfrespect. If you're impress by what I've said, try the book and I'm sure you'll find that we as a people, saving for a few, have no guilt of our sexual pervasiveness. Sex is sweet but we're not the lower animals, we must discipline ourselves to qualify as intelligent human. I assure that you'll have a hard time putting down this stimulating page turner, thoughtful read!
Rating: Summary: The Great Pretender is a page-turner... Review: This book grabs you from the beginning and doesn't let go. I had my nose buried in it for two whole days. Story makes you angry one minute and laughing out loud the next at some points. It DEFINITELY keeps your attention. The characters are so many things: complex, dramatic, and definitely flawed, but I found that I identified most with their unmistakable desire to simply be happy and to seek comfort from their family in times of crisis. Everyone from Valerie and Olivia, to the wretched Frank, fit the bill. If there is one book to get this year "The Great Pretender" is it. I can't wait for her next novel.
Rating: Summary: Compelling Family Drama... Review: I heard this author on the radio here in Los Angeles discussing signs of a cheating spouse. My curiosity was peaked because my live-in boyfriend travels bi-weekly to make a living. THE GREAT PRETENDER did not disappoint me. In fact, I started this book the day after I got it and read and finished nonstop while doing laundry and when I went to have my pedicure done. Family lessons are wrought throughout the story. Reginald was torn between Renee and Tracy, but ultimately he realized where he belonged. It's just a shame when men realize this when the damage has been done to the people they claim to love most. Sexy, engaging, scandalous, shocking, and unforgettable, THE GREAT PRETENDER is a true pageturner I was not able to put down for long.
