Summary: Most original family-related story I've ever read
Review: I would venture to say this is one of the most original family-related stories I've ever read. The big-wig Reginald Brooks is orchestrating a double life and was never caught until he decided it was time to fess up.

I found it very hard to put down and was up for a long time reading it. Each character has his own voice and I enjoyed it immensely and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys complex stories about family relationship and dysfunction, even if you don't normally like dysfunctional stories because after all....it is a part of life. Albeit, perhaps no one in your own family has lived a double life....or have they? Hmm...that's why I would recommend this book!

Summary: A clever first novel; proof of a major new talent
Review: I loved this book. The story is certainly clever and unique. I especially identified with the state of mind of the naive girlfriend Renee after Reginald "confessed" about being in a long marriage, and I understood the difficulties and why should couldn't let go.

Through the indiscretions of the characters, this story highlights the importance of honesty, integrity, and trust, and without being the least bit sappy or sentimenal it offers an unmistakable moral. It is also very straightforward and gripping. I look forward to a follow up very much. Millenia Black is definitely a major new writing talent and I hope her next book will be out soon. PVG

Summary: I over-indulged in this book and loved it!
Review: I read The Great Pretender in 2 days at a feverish pace; I couldn't put it down! Every page had something different happening. It kept me up for hours the first night with curiosity about what would happen in the end.

Trust me this is one book you won't want to put down. This book has a twist to it, and trust me it will keep you guessing for ages! Now it's off to be loaned to my sister. :+)

Summary: It got me
Review: Not my usual fare, but I bought this one because the premise sounded too intriguing to pass up. Although I've never met people with such "dramatic lives", I still found that I couldn't put the book down. This was mainly due to the mystique of how Reginald Brooks would reconcile the mounting conflicts from his decade-long deception and the fun of trying to find out which family he'd wind up with in the end. I would recommend this novel for readers and anybody who loves an eventful novel.

Summary: Couldn't wait to turn the pages
Review: Fantastic - this book is fantastic, the characters are truly awesome and I loved the way in which the main character starts off unlikeably and then serves to provide the heart of the theme in the story to the reader. It really felt as if you ended up rooting for him in the end.

From the very start you are hooked, and the outcome....well, you'd have to read it to see, although a busy and fast-paced storyline it was fairly easy reading and all the characters were introduced at just the right times. I'd love to see this story on film. Real page-turning juicey stuff.

I have never read anything from this author prior to this but I will certainly be looking for her work again!

Summary: A good read.
Review: I found this story compelling and a great read. It is certainly quickly paced and draws the reader in without you realizing you're so involved with the characters' roles in the story.

Summary: Wasn't sure at first, but...
Review: I started this book with a raised eyebrow because I wondered how any man could manage to pull off heading two families at the same time without anyone knowing about it. Black really did a good job of keeping you so into the storyline that the plot ends up winning you over and is in fact plausible under the cirumstances.

Considering that the main character is the one that outs himself, made it even more real and credible in my view. In the end, there was nothing predictible about this story because I did not suspect the ending once I got there. It just goes to show that we must always give a story a chance before we jump to conclusions. Black's double life story did end up winning me over.

Summary: Utterly unputdownable
Review: A totally gripping tale of a business man in the prime of his life, Reggie, living out the realities of the price of deception. The sort of book that you think about even when you are not reading it, and could happily read in one sitting. I would recommend this to anyone!

Summary: 100% Recommended
Review: A fast-paced and well-written book which was an absolutely fantastic read, a book I could not put down and I totally recommend it 100%. The book starts with the story of Reginald Brook's overwhelming feelings to set the past right and do right by his "first" or "primary" family and home. Some colorful forerunner characters along with really interesting secondary ones really bring this book alive.

I was entertained by this story of Reginald Brook's double life and his ultimate pennance and eagerly await the next story from this author, which I hope Ms. Millenia Black will be releasing very soon.
