Rating: Summary: an exciting and very interesting read. Review: One of the most enjoyable reads of the year. Wally Lamb creates the characters and setting in such a way that I became totally immersed in the story. Exciting and a heck of a lot of fun. Seldom do I read such long books, but this novel did not seem long at all. I really look forward to more novels from this writer. I am very impressed by his ability to write from a woman's point of view (She's Come Undone) and also from a man's point of view in "I Know This Much Is True". Love his style and way with words.
Rating: Summary: One of Best Books I Have Ever Read Review: To be honest I have never been a fan of contemporay fiction. I love movies with themes of everyday life but I was hesitant to ever read something to that degree. I stuck to fantasy and science fiction and have and still do find much enjoyment in those styles. But this.....oh my god...this was more than a book. This was a Life Reading Experience. I have been shown the light of the beauty in works like this. I literally could not put this book down. I stayed up literally all night on the day I bought red-eyed and astounded at the magic I found in these pages. The characters I will always know, and this story is one I will always remember. This is why people read and write. This being my first true experience into works of this kind I Know This Much Is True will be my faviorite and will always hold a place close in my heart....
Rating: Summary: I love it!!!!! Review: I am not reading this book because of Oprah, but because I loved She's Come Undone so much. I'm on page222 right now, and I can't put it down. This book draws you right into the storyline, and I can't put it downGiggleMel@aol.com-*Melody*
Rating: Summary: Don't Hesitate! Review: I was hesitant to buy Wally Lamb's new novel. I loved She's Come Undone. I have only read 200 pages of I Know This Much Is True, but I am mesmerized. I cannot stop reading or thinking about Thomas and Dominick the two main characters. Don't hesitate to buy this soon to be classic.
Rating: Summary: This is the best book to read Review: I am reading this book for the second time. I just love the characters and the way that Wally Lamb makes you feel as if you know each of them. The bond between Thomas and Dominick is such a strong one. The book also opens your eyes to the seriousness of mental disorders, and the way different people react to a person affected by a mental problem. Understanding in this book is the key issue. This could be any family. I just can't put this book down. To be a 40 year old house painter, who was sexually abused, divorced, had a daugter die of SIDS, are just a few of Dominick Birdseys problems. His identical twin is a paranoid schizophrenic who Dominick has had to look out for all of his life. When his brother, Thomas, cuts his hand off in what he thinks is a message to President Bush, Dominick is pushed over the edge. Through the analysis of Thomas's problems, Dominick finds himself. This book is such a extraordinary read, it will definatly touch you.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: There is no way to compare this to She's Come Undone, but it was still a fantastic book. It was a little slow in the beginning and I almost wanted to give up on it, but in the end I was happy that I stuck with it. It turned out to be a great read.
Rating: Summary: Completely engrossing and enjoyable. Review: Why other reviewers used words like "long-winded" and "cloyingly slick"to describe this book, I'll never know. I disliked She's Come Undone so much that not only did I not finish it, I actually threw it away. With all that history, it's surprising that I bought I Know This Much is True, but the truth is I'm a sucker for a big book. This is a completely engrossing and satisfying novel. It's the kind of book you keep open beside you on the passenger seat so you can read snatches at stop lights. The main character, Dominick Birdsey, is a man with plenty of promises to keep. Caring for his schizophrenic twin Thomas is a promise he made to his mother, who made him promise never to tell his stepfather about what went on in the house while stepdad was at work. Omertà , the Sicilian promise of silence, anchors both his grandfather, his mother, his stepfather and, he discovers, his brother. Torn by it all, Dominick loses track of himself almost as badly as Thomas has. His discovery of himself and his history makes for a wonderful read.
Rating: Summary: Overlong but Rewarding and Touching Review: I read this book with no expectations because I had/have not read She's Come Undone. But I don't regret giving this one a try. It is very long and some parts are rather slow. If you stick with it, though, you won't be disappionted: it is really a touching and emotional journey that miraculously transcends its movie-of-the-week premise. I recommend it!
Rating: Summary: I can only hope Wally Lamb has more fiction coming our way! Review: Wally Lamb already was awesome, but he amazingly just gets better with time & practice. Everything that was good about She's Come Undone is 100 times better in I Know This Much Is True. I bought this book a few years ago and didn't read it because I couldn't commit to the nearly 900 pages at the time. I had a craving for a long read recently and devoured it like it was nothing in a matter of days. I can say it was easily one of my favorite books ever and I'll carry the message of love and forgiveness with me forever.
Rating: Summary: Don't let the 900 pages scare you away Review: Wally Lamb's "I Know This Much is True" captivated me and totally consumed my life, rendering me powerless to put it down.
It was the most deeply moving and completely satisfying novel I ever had the pleasure to read.
This book really gives your heart a workout.
