Rating: Summary: Definitly Recommend this book!!! Review: Jemina J is a must read! I already read Jane Green's Mr. Maybe and loved it as much. Green is an awesome writer who takes you on a non-stop journey though a fantasy world. Jemina J stuggles with her weight and all that goes along with it. I love how Green decribes the characters and their lives. This is an easy, fast read and I am already onto Green's other novel Bookends!!!
Rating: Summary: I ate it up Review: Jemima is a "fat" girl who wants desperately to be thin. She's secretly in love with a co-worker and is masquerading as an exercise guru to a man she meets on the internet. Eventually she becomes the woman she always dreamed she could be and her life changes...sort of. She's still the same girl, but in a different shaped body. I've had this book "waiting" for me for months. I can't believe I had it right under my nose. It was great. I really enjoyed reading this book and felt like I was riding along with Jemima on her daily journeys. I thought some of her thoughts and feelings on being overweight were a little cliché and seemed like they were ideas that would come out of someone's mind that had never been fat. But that didn't ruin the book for me. The rest was entertaining enough that I couldn't wait to pick the book up and see what happened next. To sum it up, someone (I think on the book, one of the reviewers) said that it was like a "modern day Cinderella story." That description was perfect. It kept coming up in my head as I read the book.
Rating: Summary: Well-written, but bad message Review: Though I thought this book was well-written and fun to read, I found the entire premise of it a little annoying. First, is the reader really supposed to believe that Jemima lost that much weight in that little time? That is not very realistic. In addition, it seemed like the underlying message in the book was that you can only be truly happy and have the love of many people after you lose weight. Personally, I think that is sending the wrong message.
Rating: Summary: More and more Review: This book made me want to read all of her books. I loved it. I love how Green writes and how she describes the caracthers in the book. It is great. I can't want to read more of her books.
Rating: Summary: Awesome Book! Review: I have read this book so many time because it's such a great book! I think that it is very well written and it's such a quick read..I couldn't put the book down! I loved this book and have recommended it to every person I know! Well done! If I could give this book more than 5 stars I would!
Rating: Summary: Feminity at it's best! Review: This book to me was the hollywood movie in a book. I enjoyed it so much, I brought with me to the gym to work out, because I wanted to know what was to happen. The book from beginning to end kept me interested. And so what if it's a little over-the-top, that's what reading a book and watching a movie is all about. I felt happy for JJ. Good for her, and I'm not overweight, but Jane really made you feel like you know what it was like to be that heavy. And reading the overview of the book, I thought I knew for sure what the twist was going to be about the internet guy-but I was TOTALLY wrong! I thought this book was better than Mr. Maybe (which I only got this book because I figured I like Jane Green's writing)! And about overweight girls meeting men on the internet, I'm sure it happens more than you know.
Rating: Summary: Way past a little unbelievable.... Review: This could have been a great story...unfortunately, it was ruined for me by a completely implausible plot. When Jemima loses weight (and shows signs of a serious eating disorder) she appears to lose her mind as well....how else to explain her relationship with Brad? I greatly enjoy creative stories, but this book was completely unbelievable.
Rating: Summary: Oh puhleeze!!! Review: Ok, so I bought Jemima J thinking that it would be a book about overcoming your insecurites as a woman. If I had none that this would have been such a blatant [copy] of the Diary of Bridget Jones (even their last names are the same) I would not have bothered. Both books are about young overweight women in England who are searching for love while trying to find a better occupation. Could Jane Green be jealous of Helen Fieldings' success? I think so, because what other reason would she have for writing the uncreative and dull jemima j? Borrow it from the library if you are really that interested and have nothing else to read.
Rating: Summary: Jemima J - A must-read for any overweight young woman! Review: Jemima J tells the comic tale of an overweight PR gal in London trying to find love or happiness, for that matter, in all the wrong places (uh-hem, California?). If you like books with spark, this is a good one for you. Jemima is witty, intelligent and beautiful in this book, now if only Ben Williams could see it...
Rating: Summary: Jane Green does it again! Review: Having read Mr Maybe and Babyville already by Jane Green, and thoroughly loving them I must admit I was a bit disappointed by this one. This book was funny and moving at times; but it was overly unrealistic and fantastical in my opinion. The beauty of Green's books is her ability to make light of normal situations and breathe life into her characters. Jemima J's characters are thoroughly developed but they are in unrealistic scenarios. Something about this book just didn't click for me. Certainly, the book was one of Green's earlier works so that may have something to do with it. This book is, of course, much better than many chick lit books out there, as Green always writes a story with feeling, it just isn't one of Green's better books. Jane Green has an absolute flair for fiction and comedy-- she sets up hilarious scenarios and wonderful action. Her unpredictablity brings life into a story that would otherwise be a bit mundane. Enjoy this one, it is not Green's best, but it is a great read nonetheless!
