Summary: Oh puh-lease!
Review: I truly thought that this book would make a promising read when I picked it up. I was far from impressed and could not believe that someone could create such an immature "heroine."

I could certainly relate to many of Jemima's issues with food, body image, etc. But I could not believe the perspective/view that she holds as a 27 year old woman! So often, she comes across as juvenile and as if her emotional development was stunted in junior high! I almost gave up on the book during those first few chapters. Secondly, the catalyst for her transformation and the process of the transformation only serves to further promote the rampant media images that tell young women that they are worthy of love, romance, and the good life if they look a certain way.

I was hopeful that in the end Green's heroine would have learned something deeper. But the message gets short shrift in the measly epilogue of the book.

This book is seriously flawed and NOT a recommendation. Weiner's "Good in Bed" is far, far better.

Summary: Depressing and Horrible
Review: Granted this book was easy to read. Also, it was not too hard to follow. It was however, deeply flawed.
1) She has to change her LOOKS to be loved. The man whom she later dates (the jerk from her old job) and marries (I believe?) ONLY does so when he sees her new LOOK.
2) It is NOT healthy nor possible to lose that much weight when she was training. PLUS--a size 12 is NOT BIG! In the US, that would be a size 10!! Is Green trying to tell us that we have to be thin in order to be loved?

I hated this book!!

Summary: Enjoyable
Review: I was not too sure about this book going in- so many books use the poor fat girl who loses weight and then fulfills her dream thing- but Jemima J was a pleasant read. The strange narrative goes from narrative to first person, to third person voice which can be distracting. Must of the book reads like you are seeing things through 1 way glass.

Jemima J's transformation from unsure, untested, safe fat and unchallenged to a thinner woman who takes chances is interesting not so much for the romance and what not but for the way she begins to see herself when she lets go of her insecurities and decides to live. Taking charge of her weight is her way of entering the world and taking charge of her life and breaking free of the bonds that have weighed her down metaphorically and physically for way too long.

She does not define herself in the end by what she looks like but the person she now is. A refreshing break. Not a heavy read but better than a wasted night of TV.

Summary: Very Disapointing!
Review: Honestly, one of the worst books I have ever read. Jemima, completely obsessed with food--so much that she eats 2 bacon sandwiches on her way to work every morning--suddenly does a complete 180 overnight and drops 100 lbs over the course of a couple months. Her regimen? Eat iceberg lettuce and exercise 2 hours a day, at least. Then, and only then, does she find true love (sigh).

In the beginning of the book, I was quickly bored by Jemima's whining (and Green's writing). By the end of the book, if I had to read one more chapter about Brad and Jemima's daily routine of coffee, rollerblading, or what a beautiful couple everyone thought they were, I was going to scream. The book could have easily been 50 pages shorter.

A complete waste of time. A poor excuse for "chick lit".

Summary: amazing
Review: This was honestly the best book I've ever read in my life. I've fallen in love with Jane Green's writing and this is the only piece of literature I have read by her. She is remarkable author; the story is inspiring to those who can relate, and even to those who can't. To plainly summarize, I simply love it.

Summary: Modern day cinderella story
Review: Although this isn't the type of book a usually read it appealed to me very much. My roommate read it in one day, so I gave it a try. It was great. Once you are started the book is very addicting. I couldn't put it down. This is one book that can acctually make you smile. I would recommend it to anyone even if it's not something you usually read. It's worth it.

Summary: Fun Reading
Review: This was the first Jane Green book I've read and I'd have to say it was quite good. The plot dealt mostly with the main character and how though she is overweight and cannot resist chocolates and burgers, longs to be a beatiful skinny woman. The twists in this book make it unpredictable at parts - and very hard to put down. Finished in one sitting and i don't find reading fun most of the time either! Read it!

Summary: A book that will make you smile
Review: I read this book at the recommendation of a friend.
I'm glad I took her advice. Jemima J is a book that was easy to relate to, and made me smile.

Summary: Crap
Review: What a complete bunch of drivel. The writing was boring and rudimentary. The story was predictable and vapid. The characters are thoroughly unlikeable and shallow. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone.

Summary: This book inspired me!
Review: I read this book and though "yeah, a little much" but imagine if you REALLY could do it. About a year later, I dropped 60 pounds and learned, just like Jemima, that you don't have to be TINY to be happy. I recommend this book to everyone.
