Rating: Summary: Great Book!! Review: Jemima J. must be one of the best books I've ever read. It has been the first and only book that I've read that I did not want to put down! I highly recommend it for anyone wanting a good book!
Rating: Summary: best book ever!!!! Review: I fell in love with this book before i was even half-way through it. im not sure if it is the writing or just the way it all mashes together, but i just love it. I have lent my copy to at least 5 of my friends, <who might i add all of them loved it too> and i have gotten it back within 3 days , from each of them. i myself have read it twice and am about to start again.I really appreciate how once jemima gets to be j.j. she doesnt have a big head.I just think that everyone should read this, i also hope that it becomes a movie.
Rating: Summary: Loved It Review: I really enjoyed this book. I must say I was really surprised to find out that she was only a little over 200 lbs. From my point of view she seemed to be about 300 until I read that. I like the book and read it in almost 1 day. I would recommend it as a good read and would read it again. I knew in the beginning though that what would happen with the American happened. I could tell by the way the other girl was acting. But all in all this was a great book.
Rating: Summary: You've got to be kidding. Review: When I'm told that Jemima is GROSSLY overweight ("At least 100 pounds!!"), and basically spends all of her time fondling her mountains of flab and stuffing bacon into her hole, and not being able to walk a few feet without stopping for a breath, I figured that she had to be over 300. How surprised was I to find out that she was supposed to be 217. Add to my overall astonishment and horror the fact that she lost 80 pounds in three months, with only one passing comment from the author about how unhealthy it is to crash diet and work out obsessively. The message is clear. Fat is bad. Skinny is good, no matter how you get there. Good job, Jane Green. You're obviously a much smarter woman than I, a simple American. Oh, wait--a simple thick headed American. Save your money. Better yet--wait till this nonsense is made into a movie, with some rail thin actress in a fat suit.
Rating: Summary: It's not so awful! :-) Review: A lot of reviewers hated the "stereotype" of the thinner, happier person and found it unrealistic. I didn't think it was all that bad. Really. Jemima lives in London, has a job she likes, but few friends. and a big crush on a co-worker. She is overweight because she eats compulsively, but dreams of changing all that and becoming thin and beautiful. A night in an internet chat room, oddly enough, motivates her to find something else to do- to exercise and not eat all the time and become the New JJ. This behaviour change is coupled with meeting Brad, who finds her gorgeous without even seeing her, asks for photos and comes on very strong. Personally, I would have RUN from Brad, but the new JJ is an innocent who doesn't. Brad convinces JJ to visit him in LA where he swoons over her but then isn't really involved in the relationship the way she expected. The reason why is, well, peculiar, I suppose. JJ figures out that Brad isn't the guy she thought he was and fortunately decides to get out of there. Her British friends and new US friends come to the rescue after much mistaken identity. Sure, a woman could change like that. We all change in our lives and feeling fit and healthy can be the catalyst for a lot of changes. The writing was good, even if the genre' (chick beach book) isn't what I usually read. I read it more than a year ago and found it to be more memorable than I expected.
Rating: Summary: Fun Read Review: This book started out really slow. It wasn't until I had read the first 75 pages or so that I really got into it, and it took me about a month to get that far. But I kept on trying because I loved 'Mr. Maybe' so much. Needless to say, the book finally picked up speed and I really enjoyed it, finishing it in two days. Jemima J is inspiring, yet naive. Her journey of self discovery and the people she meets along the way are hilarious, shocking, and heartwarming. It is unrealistic in some parts, especially the rapid weight transformation, however, I suppose that is what makes the book move along (eventually). I recommend this book, and will be reading more of Janes Green's novels. I hope you do to!
Rating: Summary: The story of an ugly duckling that becomes a beautiful swan Review: This is probably the best book that I have ever read. It was that kind of book that you start to read and you can't put it down until u find out wa\hat happens next. I strongly recommend this book to anybody looking for a good book to read. Jemima J is overweight, extremely overweight. Through the book, she turns from and ugly duckling to a beautiful swan, just like the story of Cinderella. Jemima is very depressed and uses her obesity to hide herself from everybody around her. Until one day when one of her co-workers, Ben who is the most handsome person there, starts to talk to her and that gives her light and she realizes that she really needs to do something about her weight. One night Ben and Jemima went to a computer library to learn more about the internet. While they were there, they discovered the chat rooms. A couple days later when it was just Jemima on the internet, she went into one of the chat rooms and started to talk to this guy named Brad. Even though she was still overweight, when he asked her what she looked like, she described herself as a skinny, beautiful model, with a perfect figure. But a couple of months later when she asks him to come stay with him, will she go, will she have lost all her weight to be the person that she described?
Rating: Summary: Too long~~ Review: This book is tooooo longgg. THe author added a lot of useless descriptive details in this novel. That part with Brad and Jenny is really disgusting....shouldnt even include in the story.there's no point~ Why only skin and fit people can find love, but not the fat ones? A lot of misleading points in this JJ novel.
Rating: Summary: A Great Read Review: I loved this book! As an overweight young person struggling to lose weight, I found this book to be relatable and inspriring. While parts of the book are a stretch, one must keep in mind that is is a work of fiction, others are examples of life where you can say "Yeah, Ive been there!"
Rating: Summary: I was robbed! Review: I picked this book up on a whim looking for a distraction from a long plane ride. The first few chapters flew by but then came to a startling halt halfway through the plot line. I am not going to give away the story but lets just say save your five bucks and put it towards a cup of coffee or something of more enjoyment. It was a complete waste of time.
