Rating: Summary: Refreshing Review: A very well written and refreshing novel. A little slow and heavy on the "I'm fat and lonely" in the begining but it totally works with the plot which quickens in the second half. I started the second half of the novel just as I was getting to bed and didn't sleep until 4 in the morning because I just could not put it down.I don't want to reveal too many secrets but you'd be surprised how well Jemima relates to us all no matter what size you are. I went to sleep that morning fully satisfied and for some reason I felt smarter in the "love department" although does sound a bit naff.
Rating: Summary: UNBELIEVABLE Review: AMAZING, AMAZING, AMAZING, DID I MENTION AMAZING. THIS BOOK WILL WANT TO MAKE YOU FALL IN LOVE
Rating: Summary: Wonderful, clever, and inspiring story! Review: I have really enjoyed all of Jane Green's books, but this is my absolute favorite! I think every woman can relate to the body image and weight issues that Jemima deals with, and the plot has some very interesting twists as you go along. It's well worth reading and making part of your home library!
Rating: Summary: Wildly Entertaining Page Turner!!! Review: I couldn't put this book down - I had to know what was going to happen next! I was rooting for Jemima all the way! As far as what happened, I didn't see it coming...I ended up on a lengthy layover in an airport and kept laughing out loud because I was enjoying the story so much, I felt like I was reading a letter from a friend. I needed something light and fun and this was perfect! Take this one to the beach, pool, park - it's sure to put a smile on your face!
Rating: Summary: Good book Review: I liked this book a lot. It's the story of an overweight woman who dreams of being thin because she believes that thin equals happiness. What she comes to realize however, is that if your not happy with yourself, it dosen't matter what size you are. You won't be happy. She realizes this in the end and you guessed it, lives happily ever after.
Rating: Summary: Love at Last for the FAT girl Review: Jemima J is a cleverly written book that shows the life of a girl who feels that she is trapped in a fat girls body. She has the brains, the personality, but not the man, friends, or the body. You see Jemima transform herself into this skinny goddess that everyone seems to be drawn, including those that once never gave her a second look. Although well written, Jemima J shows just how shallow our society is when it comes to outside appearances. If anything, this book helps confirm a lot of things that we already know about our society. Not all people are equal
Rating: Summary: It's quite good actually Review: the first time I read the book it was inspirational , I refer specifically to the part where she manages to slim down by such an alarming degree. It is funny, hilarious and tried to give guys some credit in this book. However, a warning, the exercise regime she does is a bit unbelievable. Perhaps a little too much. But, who am I ? I am no expert. Just read the goddamn book already !
Rating: Summary: Great story about internet dating as well as ugly ducklings. Review: This is one of the best stories I have read about someone that is not a perfect size 8. This is a woman who deals with real thoughts hopes and wishes. She is also someone who takes solace in food. Until she starts to internet date someone who thinks she is the perfect size 8. Ack what to do. Well she goes gung ho and joins a gym and becomes possessed with fitness and exercise, ok actually with loosing weight. As well as the fact that the man she has had a huge crush on for years has left for another job and seems to have forgotten all about her. In this book it also talks about her friends and fitness instructor thinking she may be going to far. But, that is part of the story. What happens when she goes to America to meet this Prince? You learn a lot about people and human interaction with this story. Fantastically written.
Rating: Summary: Just a tad UNBELIEVEABLE!!! Review: First off, I liked the book as a whole. It was a fun read, I found myself flying through the end desperately trying to find out what was going to happen to the loveable main character, Jemima Jones. I would NOT recommend this book to my "chick-lit" obsessed friends though because of the unrealistic way the character is completely OBSESSED with food and then goes in completely opposite direction, which anyone who is signficantly overweight knows that it is HIGHLY unlikely for that to happen. (And according to the back cover, JJ is 100 lbs. overweight) It seems as though this book was written by a skinny author with skinny friends who really didn't know or never will know what it is like to be that overweight. I'm sorry to be so critical, but with such a "hot-button" issue, I'd expect more from a book.
Rating: Summary: It's like a handbook for eating disorders Review: The only thing you need to know about this book is that pro-anorexia websites have referred to it as a motivational "thinspiration" book. I highly doubt Jane Green ever intended this, but I guess it's no surprise that a depressingly ludricrous weight-loss story that continuously fetishizes glossy images and ideals about thinness has managed to attract such an audience. I hated this book.
