Summary: An amazing story.
Review: This book is absolutely amazing - I could not put it down. First, I would like to comment on the cover of the book. The design, the colors, and the picture is very attractive.

I enjoyed how the book swithces between voices. I also enjoyed Divakaruni's word choice and her vivid descriptions. Mostly, the bond between the two young ladies is aluring. You want to know more and more. The best part of the novel is the turning of events that the readers do not expect. Though parts maybe unreal, this book let my mind wonder from the real world and enter to the lives of Sudha and Anju. This is the beauty of reading fiction - we do not have to be realistic.

Great Job - Chitra!

Summary: Unrealistic yet readable
Review: Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni in her latest offering-"Sister of my heart" has rendered a book that is easy to read but does not leave a lasting impression. After puttting down the book,I missed the feeling of newness and the impression was more of another-book-read instead of a special book. That is the difference between a mediocre offering and a reaaly good one. Sudha is too perfect(the writer fails to reveal any of her weaknesses). She is shown as a typical heroine of the Hindi cinema of the 60s. Too good to be true. Anju is more lifelike and her weaknesses are more profound since they are constantly in comparison to Sudha's goodness. Realism is sadly but surely missing in the book. Read it,if you have time or if you like Devakurni style but not if you are seeking a special something. This book is not in that league.

Summary: A touching book
Review: This book has really changed the way i feel and understand my culture, it describes the ups and downs that many families go through. It made me feel as if i was part of the storyline and even in places, made me cry!

Summary: A prize-filled future for this writer
Review: I haven't been as impressed with a writer since I first read Toni Morrison's work. This book is beautifully crafted--until the characters go to America, where ugliness enters the story. Just at the end (and, some might argue, earlier), the dramatic theme deteriorates to a soap opera. This writer could become a Nobel laureate if she learns to weave ironic humor into her already fine writing. For lasting literature, she needs deeper themes.--Linda Donelson, author of "Out of Isak Dinesen: Karen Blixen's untold story"

Summary: YOU GO GIRL WIT'CHUR TALENTED SELF!!
Review: I truly couldn't put this book down and finished it in one sitting. At times I found myself moved to tears. This novel was much better than her previous book Mistress of Spices. If you enjoyed her anthology Arranged Marriage then you'll love this one. I believe Divakaruni sets herself apart from other expatriate Inidan writers in the sheer simplicity and clarity of her writing.

Summary: Well-written. Book was full of passion and mystery.
Review: I was a new reader to this author and I was pleasantly suprised. Sister of my Heart was an excellent, well-written book. Chitra includes mystery, passion and drama all under one cover. She has managed to cross the color boundary and get to what really matters in life - love. Sister of my heart is a definite page turner.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Not credible
Review: Although the author is a good story-teller, important pieces of the novel are unrealistic like for eg: character of Ashok does not make sense. She potrays him as a strong and mature person but in the end unmercifully lets down his character. Is she trying to potray that all men are biased and immature in a typical false feministic manner. Also, unbelievable was Sudha's father hiding in disguise as a driver. And what about those ruby mines!

Summary: Great book..but.......
Review: Sister of My Heart is a fascinating book..well written..with lush, rich characters. The relationship between Sudha and Anju is so complex and beautiful..but, I felt that the ending had absolutely no closure. The reader is just left hanging...it seems to just stop right in the middle of a great storyline. Maybe the author left it open for a sequel...but even so, I would have liked some semblance of satisfaction with the ending. All in all, it is a great story..as is Mistress of Spices. I really do hope, though, that there is a sequel planned to Sister of My Heart!
