Rating: Summary: An escape to an imagenery yet such a real world.... Review: Usually, it takes me about two to three weeks to finish a book; however, 'Sister of My Heart' would not have it that way. It kept my full attention and concentration untill it had finished telling me it's story. Even when I had to seperate from it's rapture, it would lure me back with images of the story and tantalize me in it's story again. A beautiful tale of two sisters; however, it is about so much more than that. It is about love, romance, attachment, trust, change, seperation, tradition, race and other issues that dominate all our lives. If the book does find it's way in to your hands, you will surely fall in love, again and again and again...
Rating: Summary: One of the best authors of the decade Review: Ms. Divakaruni has done it again with another exquisite novel. Her writing is beautiful and the story quite moving. At least one of the plot twists will catch you off guard, and you won't be able to put it down. This is one of the best novels I've read in a long time. I hope she follows up with a sequel; Sudha and Anju deserve it.
Rating: Summary: Though fiction sometimes reads like poetry. A very good book Review: Though set in India these characters could live anywhere. It's feeling comes straight from the heart. I recommend it to all those who never cease to be surprised by love, life and a good ending. So good it leaves you hoping for the next.
Rating: Summary: A wonderful bittersweet story Review: When I picked this book up, I couldn't put it down. I was attached to the characters from page 1. I felt as if I were growing up with Anju and Sudha. I was deeply moved by the closeness of their relationship. You don't see many stories these days the demonstrate pure unconditional love the way that Chitra Banerjee Davakaruni has with "Sister of My Heart."
Rating: Summary: The best book I've read in quite a while. Review: "Sister of my Heart" is a wonderful, colorful portrait of two women growing up in India and the turns their lives take when they sacrifice their own wishes for each other's good. It is so vividly written that you can almost smell the dishes and touch the people she writes about. The lives she's created on paper will linger with you long after you've read the book like sweet gulabjamun lingers on your tongue, leaving you wanting more.
Rating: Summary: A second-hand journey to a fantastic world Review: As a Westerner, I could only rely on the author's deft description to help me understand the plights and trials of the two central characters. Even further, as a Westerner raised by independent women, I found myself in awe of how the author managed to make me not only sympathetic toward the (impossibly old-fashioned to my Western mind) situations faced by the heroines...but also in how I have a new understanding of just how different...and yet similar our two worlds are. Applause to Ms. Divakaruni. Lovely and amazing.
Rating: Summary: This book was really great fiction!! Review: I have been doing a lot of reading lately and have found bestsellers disappointing in this way or that. So I feel I am qualified to say this book is a great read w/ surprises and a sweet plot!! I like it even better than Mistress of Spices which was OK. I didn't want it to end!! So now I anxiously await this authors next book!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: A captivating novel Review: CBD has done it again. This is truly a masterpiece, opening a window to the realm of Indian Womenhood, the family ties. The CBD touches are evident and one should finish this book in one sitting sometimes sobbing all the way.
Rating: Summary: I loved Sister of My Heart and highly recommend it! Review: I absolutely loved Sister of My Heart and highly recommend it. I have read Arranged Marriage and Mistress of Spices, and Sister of Heart is the best yet! I read it in one sitting while flying from San Francisco to Washington, D.C., and sobbed through it. Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni, through a lyrical and imaginative style, captures the essence and depth of friendship between women.
Rating: Summary: Riveting; a book you can't put down Review: The two main characters in this novel are so well-developed, the reader feels everything that they're going through, and wants things to work out for them. It was interesting learning about the culture of India as these two girls grew into women. The story was fascinating, and the reader was never quite sure what twists would come up next in the plot. An excellent book!
