Rating: Summary: Monumental Achievement in Historical Fiction Review: An incredible piece of work! Rivals anything by James Mitchener for that type of fact-based novel. The only negative comment I can make regarding this book is that very few people seem to know of its existence.
I would be very interested in any information about the author. For example: is she herself a person of Native North American heritage?
Rating: Summary: Interesting book Review: A very interesting and comprehensive book covering an exciting era in our nation's history. If you enjoyed this you'll love "Blood Brother" by Elliot Arnold which is out of print but can be still be found. I'm sure Ms. Waldo would recommend it, too.
Rating: Summary: Lewis and Clark fan Review: Although I enjoyed this book,it is strictly fiction, loosely based on a lot of research as evidenced by the footnotes constantly referring to other Lewis and Clark books.I frequently found myself shaking my head as I read passages that did not ring true. The author did not do well with word descriptions of physical acts, they were often confusing. She even changed the name of Lewis's dog Seaman to Scannon. Why?
All in all,not too bad,but could have been edited better.
Rating: Summary: Go Along For The Ride Review: Be warned, this is a very large book - even in paperback! When you receive it, you may be intimidated by it's size, but don't be. This book is so interesting, it doesn't seem long at all. It's an adventure, and you will feel as if you are along with Lewis, Clark, and Sacajawea on their explorations. With the new dollar coin coming soon featuring Sacajawea, more people will be curious to know about Sacajawea. This is the book to read.
Rating: Summary: One of my favorite books Review: I can reinforce the reviews of the other readers; this is a facinating story and written so well that the length is not an issue. A year or so after I read this book, I was on a family vacation. We happened to be driving through the Wind River reservation in Wyoming, and stopped to read one of those historical markers, which indicated that the grave of Sacajewea was nearby. I became quite emotional at finding her grave in the old cemetery. I felt very attached; in the presence of the real story of Sacajewea.
Rating: Summary: FANTASTIC Review: I felt that I was with Lewis's and Clark's expedition with this wonderful woman-child. I am looking forward to reading a lot more about Sacajawea. This was a "loaned" book and I enjoyed it so much I would like to read it again, so I am purchasing it for myself.
Rating: Summary: My all-time favorite book Review: I first read Sacajawea 15 years ago and it became my favorite book. I've had the tattered paperback all this time and last week deciced to reread it. I read all 1400 pages in a week's time and I still claim it in the top five favorite books. Every woman should read this book.
Rating: Summary: Sacajawea Review: I first read this book when I was merely a girl. I can remember feeling transported, as though walking the same path as Sacajawea as we journeyed together. I had a well-worn copy that got lost in a move, and when I discovered it missing, I mourned it like the passing of a close friend. Rarely do you read a book and become so intertwined with the characters that you wish for a moment you were them. You will ache when she does, you will risk a smile when she does. You can read more reviews, but you are better off just buying the book and experiencing it for yourself. You will not be sorry. Your only regret will be that the story ends.
Rating: Summary: Sacajawea by Anna Lee Waldo Review: I found this book very interesting, but a little graphic. I read the entire 1400+ pages and enjoyed it all.
Rating: Summary: Sacajawea.....Excellent....I have read it twice Review: I have read this twice, once to myself and the second time to my daughter. It has taken me three years now to read it to my daughter. A couple of pages every night before bed and now my daughter is an expert on "Bird Woman". Still after all these years, she still remembers all the story. We loved it
