Rating: Summary: excellent!! Review: This is an historically accurate, interesting and very entertaining book about both Sacagawea and the Lewis and Clark Expedition. The author has clearly done her homework, the book has at least a thousand references to first and secondary historical materials including hundreds of references to journals, reports and letters written by members of the Expedition themselves. This is a magnificent book.
Rating: Summary: An emotional and riveting novel Review: This is one of the best books I have ever read. The story is phenomenal and I loved everything in the book. The facts and actual history back up the story and tie everything together. I recommend that anyone who loved Sacajawea read Anna Lee Waldo's other book, Circle of Stones.
Rating: Summary: A most compelling novel. Review: This is one of the best, well writen books that I have read in a long time. I treasure my tattered copy and I urge others to read this great adventure. Ms. Waldo is an excellent writer and her works are a treasure.A large book, even in paperback, over 1400 pages. But once you start reading it will be very hard to put down.I highly recommend it for everyone.
Rating: Summary: Sacajawea and her times. Review: This is probably one of the greatest historical fictions that I have ever read. I would recommend it without reservation. A wonderful and colorful representation of one of the greatest women heroes of our American Past.Crossing cultural lines. Living as slave, wife and scout her story paints a magnificient picture of this exciting piece of American History. Not only does the story depict Sacajawea but also presents an colorful and very interesting view of what the world was like at that time for both Native Americans and the Euro American population of our young country. READ THIS BOOK!!! You will not regret it.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Review: This is the book that got me interested in this time period. Lush, colorful words and great characters with a plot one can only think is a piece of fiction. Although some poetic license is taken to move the plot along, the book is very close to what really happen. This is the adventure that made our country sea to shining sea. Everyone should read this. It is just the best.
Rating: Summary: Amazing life, Amazing woman! Review: This was the epic story I have been waiting to read! My mother told me about this book some time ago, and for some reason I never got around to it...I am so glad that I was finally smart enough to pick it up. Sacajawea, her life, her friendships, her loves, her families among many indian and white tribes was amazing. Her adventures almost unbelievable, and it makes me so proud to be not only a woman, but one of native american descent. All of the characters were multi-dimentional and wonderful people to read about, and sympathise with. All of the Indian beliefs and customs were so interesting, and some were so beautiful that you "believed". I would reccomend this book to everyone, for it has something FOR everyone...adventure, comedy, tragedy, love, loss, life. Enjoy, Debbi :)
Rating: Summary: One of the BEST reads ever! Review: Those of you who complain that the story is not historically accurate, please remember this is a book of fiction not non-fiction. While reading these 1400+ pages, I was immersed in the feelings of the characters and the setting of the story -- almost as if I was on the trip, too. It is possible to read all of the absolutely accurate facts and figures about that trip and never be in touch with how it must have felt and looked to those folks. This book made me feel grateful for so much. I read this book in the late '70's and it has stayed in my mind like no other book I ever read. I have also purchased copies simply to give to friends who express an interest in reading it.
