Rating: Summary: A Book that deserves to be at the top of every reader's list Review: You will laugh, you will cry, you will grow hot with rage and yet swoon over two lovers, you will undoubtedly love this book. Emotion packed, this slightly lengthy yet worth-every-word novel is brought to life by Morgan Llywelyn's vivid descriptions of the Irish countryside. You will adore and loathe the lively and realistic characters, always drawing out intense emotions. You will ponder the ethics and debate the morals, and whether the tear-jerking ending is happy or sad is up to speculation. Brian of Boruma is truly a hero, a giant of a man capable of fighting battles, delivering charismatic speeches, forming brilliant strategies, intimidating his enemy and warming the heart of his friends. Whether it's the bloody battle scenes, romances, or the magical air it carries with every word that will inevitably draw you into the spell binding plot, I can gaurentee you will be unable to put down this masterpiece.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely Brilliant Review: Once again Morgan Llywelyn has written a wonderful book. This time she brings you back to the time of Brian Boru, one of the great kings of ancient Ireland. As with many of her books Morgan has spent a lot of time researching her subject before writing the book. This historically accurate book gives you a glimpse of what life in ancient Ireland was like. It left me craving more and dreaming of my heritage.
Rating: Summary: Cead Milte Faite' Morgan L. ! Review: All I can say is that is simply the greatest book I've yet to read in my life. I first came across it when I was 6 yrs old, my father was reading it. I wanted to know what he was reading and he began to tell me about this "Boru". I was fascinated, however I was too young to read a book of this level. I kept a copy of it for 6 yrs until I was "mature" enough to comprehind it. It succeeded my greatest expectations. That was 12 yrs ago and I have hence read it somewhere around 14 times.
Rating: Summary: Master Piece Review: This is truly a work of art. This the best book on the middle ages and Ireland that I have ever read. I especially enjoyed the part when Brian and others lived in the woods and fought the Northmen guerilla style with hit and run tactics. Everyone who loves Ireland or the Middle ages should read this book and the best part about it is that it is just about all true!
Rating: Summary: It's what words were made for Review: I am no Morgan L. fan. I am no Celt fanatic. I am no history buff. Having cleared that up...this is definately one the finest written books I have ever read, and I read quite alot. Like many others writing these reviews, I first read this book when I was around 15 and was amazed and delighted with the story. Since then, I have read the book many times, or just browsed my favorite parts (when Brian is 'ambushed'!), it never fails to capture me and pull at my emotions. I picked it up the other night and discovered that the many handlings of it have placed it in an unreadable condition, so I came here to look it up. If the price had been fifty bucks I would've paid it. It's worth it. I consider my life 'better' with the enjoyment I continue to get from this book. What else can I say? GET IT.
Rating: Summary: Outstanding Review: She has brought Irish history alive in such a way that it captivates both the young (my 8 year old son) and old (myself). The begining of life in ancient Ireland and the strife caused by the many invaders is hard felt but done without the excessive violence of many current writers. I had never realized how close Ireland had come to being made whole, or the pain it took to get it there.
Rating: Summary: Excellent!!!! Review: This book was magnificent. The book captures the soul of a king that could not be held back it chronicles his adventures, successes, failures, and the loves of his life. I found myself mystified by the vivid descriptions she gave about the many battles that Brian Boru fouhgt in. It also gave a surprising account of Viking history and mythology to go along with the mytique of the irish which is ever-present in many of her books, A great read.
Rating: Summary: amazing read, go buy it now! Review: I remember reading this book when I was a teenager and being blown away by it. I used to kept it close to hand to read my favourite parts if I was feeling blue and just needed some inspiration. From the moment the book begins, introducing Brian to us as a child, to the last page, I was drawn to this character and felt every agony and exhaltation during the battles and dramas of his life. I have since moved abroad and haven't read this book in a long time. I was delighted when I stumbled upon it here at Amazon. I am counting the days until it will be delivered to me and I had read it again!
Rating: Summary: A very enjoyable read! Review: I have just finished reading this interesting book. It has accurate facts about Brian Boru's life, from his humble beginnings to his ultimate victory. While I truely enjoyed reading this book I found that Brian was too good to be true as a real person. His hatred towards the northmen is too exaggerated for the time as the vikings were becoming a true part of Irish society. However I see that it is all necessary for the dramatic tension of the novel and a little historical fantasy does not go astray. I would recommend it to anybody who is interested in Irelands pre Norman history. A fascinating read!
Rating: Summary: wow Review: I had read this book when i was only 13, although the content was a LITTLE too mature for me. I still loved it, I hadven't missed a year of not reading it at least once. "Lion.." has introduced me to the worlds Llywelyn paints and i have remained faithful to her since i was a kid. Ive read every book she has ever published (Good and bad ;) ). Ive recommended this book to everyone. Anyone, not only interested in Celtic or Irish history, but history in general would greatly appreciate this book. The people who gave it anything less than "five stars" must either dislike the Irish or have something against a good book!
