Rating: Summary: I loved it!! Review: It was a magnificent portrait of a real man, a delightful combination of myth, magic and humanity that made it clear how all Ireland fell under his spell.
Rating: Summary: Brings Ireland to life Review: After visiting Ireland, I have longed to go back. Since I was not going back to Ireland in the immediate future, I picked up this book and hoped I could get a taste of Ireland. I definitely was not disappointed. I could see the rolling, green hills, feel the morning mist, and smell the fresh Irish air while I was reading this book. I miss Ireland and I will read Morgan Llywelyn's books until I go back.
Rating: Summary: Pure Celtic lust for life and freedom Review: I was engrossed in the raw determination of Brian Boru to free his beloved Ireland of Viking occupation and last but not least his desire to unite the Irish people to build a strong yet peaceful Ireland.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely incredible. Spell-binding. Review: A "must read" for anyone interested in the colorful and passionate history of Ireland, the Celts, and anyone who enjoys a lust-for-life read of historical fiction. I couldn't put it down.
Rating: Summary: Beautiful story full of fire and passion Review: this book blew me away. it made me wish I was Irish! At the very least, its made me want to visit Ireland one of these days. They could make an excellent movie out of this book, something more interesting than Braveheart.
Rating: Summary: A Royal Read! (literally) Review: I have read almost every book Morgan Llywelyn wrote and Lion of Ireland was my first. I am reading The Wheel of Times series, Recluce, and Fallon but Lion of Ireland will always remain the BEST BOOK I HAVE EVER READ!
Rating: Summary: Brilliant historical novel, mystical and inspirational Review: This is Llywelyn's best work. Anyone interested in pre-Norman Ireland and Celtic history will enjoy this book. She has a very engaging writing style, and weaves fact and fiction into a fascinating story.
Rating: Summary: I couldn't put this book down till I was finished Review: This book kept me captivated like no other book has ever done. When I first started it, I was transported to the time of Brian Boru, and the characters became lifelike. I enjoyed reading it, and have passed it on to many of my friends, every one of them enjoying it as much or more than I.
Rating: Summary: Breathtaking, couldn't put it down. Review: One of the best novels I have ever read. In fact I read this novel before the release of the movie Braveheart.I couldn't help but wonder if the movie pilfered Lion of Ireland as its screenplay and replaced Brian B. with William Wallace. Morgan is owed royalties.
Rating: Summary: Sad, bittersweet, inspirational, exhilerating, awesome! Review: The story starts out with the all powerful, all conquering, Norse attacking the peaceful, sleeping seat of the then relatively unknown and insignificant Dalcassian Clan. The Northmen loot and burn without fear of reprisal. It is a fatal mistake for Norse interests in Ireland. They have made an enemy of a small boy with great dreams. His name is Brian mac Cennedi and he will become the last true High King of Ireland. He will unite his land as no one has done before or since and extract a terrible toll of vengeance from his Viking enemies. The small boy grows up to become the great Boru. A true larger than life hero straight from the pages of history. A good king with an unquenchable lust for life, a keen and prescient sense of justice, and battle rage that even the fearless Norse and Danes recoiled from. Boru is, for my money, the greatest hero of all time. Read this book and compare Boru to any of the heroes of mythology. They will not stand a chance! If you want to feel passion, read this book. If you want to walk in the shoes of greatness for once in your life, read this book. I read it twice and I can't wait to read it again someday.
