Summary: head and shoulders above the rest
Review: I was attracted to this book because I thought it was an original idea to set a story around a beauty salon, well known to be "libraries of gossip." But, it was a nice surprise to find the story revolving around the owners who happen to be sisters that support each other through an entire lifetime of shampoos and curls. I appreciated that most of the men were really decent and worked with the women to make the most of what they had.The ending had more than a few surprises. The characters were rich and delightful, and I recommend a nice fire in the fireplace, a soft comfortor and a glass of wine with this novel for a perfect evening.

Review: For a light, fun and easy to read book look no farther than this. While there is a lot of humor, quirkiness and tragedy in this book- it is very believable. After all, isn't that what all our lives have in common? The characters are people you would like to have living next door to you. I prefer to read non-fiction books, but this is one fiction book that held my interest. If ever a book should be described as a "summer beach read" this is that book.

Review: I kept seeing this book at the bookstore. I would read the back and think I might like it, but I would never actually buy it. My sister brought it with her for a visit and insisted I read it. I went through it overnight. I really did laugh and cry at it. (as trite as it sounds!)I think its a touching story, and funny particularly if you are a Scandinavian in the Midwest, or just know some! Even if you aren't or don't, it is a pleasant but not heavy book that takes you through a range of emotions and experiences, in the sincere and light hearted spirit of the character's conversations. I enjoyed the story, and saw many of my own experiences, friends, and relatives in it.

Review: I purchased this book because Ivillage said this was a good read. How wrong can someone be. I thought this book was so boring I couldn't wait to finish. I'll be more careful about my picks after this. To the many readers who liked this book I just don't get it.

Review: Absolutely loved this book. While vacationing in Cape Cod this summer "Patty Janes House of Curl" got passed around from my grandmother, to me, to sisters, cousins, and aunts. We all felt the same about it. Hated to see it end but couldn't wait to pass it on!

Review: I can only say that I am completely shocked that this book got more than one good review, much less dozens of them. This book was completely boring. Like another reviewer, I've just read the two Ya-Ya books and it's more like comparing a Rolls to a roller skate. I only wish that I hadn't spent actual money on it. It took me back to my high school days where I HAD to read something. I forced myself to read this, hoping it would get better, but I shouldn't have wasted my time. Absolutely the ONLY part not totally awful was the Epilogue, which I'm kind of thinking someone else must've written. If you want a summary of my feelings about this book, read every review with a star rating under a 2.

Review: The chemistry between Patty Jane & Harriet made me wish I had a sister.They kept it together despite the fact that their parents were alcholics.The love that Avel Ames gave to Harriet is second to none.My heart goes out to little Nora she took care of a man she didn't even know,But grew to love and except. I can personally identify with her.This is the best book by a new author,can't wait for her latest novel.
