Rating: Summary: story stays with you after reading it Review: You either love this book or hate it, is what I've gathered after reading the reviews. I'm one of those who loved it! We need more books like this on the market that are positive and uplifting. I get so sick of crime novels that virtually saturate the top 10 market. For those who dogged this book, go read your boring King and Koontz novels.
Rating: Summary: Quick, easy read, lightweight summer book Review: This is a great beach book- no heavy lifting here! I didn't find it as funny as others have, although it's entertaining.
Rating: Summary: Entertaining Review: I was torn between 3 and 4 stars on this book. I enjoyed it, and it was fairly well-written, but I thought that the novel was melodramatic in places and could have used deeper charcter developement. The reason I decided on four stars was because of the section about Avel...I thought that he was a very memorable and distinctive character. I also thought that the section about Patty Jane "resurfacing" was very realistic. All in all, it reminds me of a Midwestern "Fried Green Tomatos" or "Steel Magnolias"
Rating: Summary: Read fast before you lose interest Review: Looking for the quintessential "beach book"? A fast read? Cheap laughs? Shallow characters and a ridiculously unbelievable plot? Look no further! I don't know when I've encountered so many people undergoing so much trauma and about whom I cared so little. The author would benefit by taking a crash course in characterization, and that's just for starters. The best that can be said of this book is that it makes one appreciate GOOD writing.
Rating: Summary: This book is so good it should be made into a movie. Review: I loved this book. I didn't think it would be very interesting but the characters and story line kept me captivated from beginning to end. The writer has a great writting style and I could picture in detail Avel, Patty Jane and Thor and even the town as if I was there. I have read this book twice and have just started it again for a third time. Someone should make this into a movie. I think it would be a great success!
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Weekend Read! Review: I read this book in a weekend and couldn't put it down. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Landvik's use of language really pulls you right into Patty Jane's world and it's hard to "resurface" to join the "real world" again! A wonderful read, thoroughly enjoyable, sad in places, very real.
Rating: Summary: A wonderful and inspirational novel!!! Review: This book is a wonderful book that reminds you that you are not alone in the worst of times. It will make you cry, smile, laugh, and most of all remember that life is beautiful!
Rating: Summary: strange. But in a good way Review: the way she writes is very interesting. But i like it
Rating: Summary: A MOST WONDERFUL HEART WARMING STORY Review: I READ THIS BOOK AND WHEN I WAS THROUGH I WENT RIGHT BACK TO THE BEGINNING AND READ IT ALL OVER AGAIN! THIS BOOK MADE ME LAUGH AND CRY AT THE SAME TIME, THERE IS NOTHING MORE THAT I COULD ASK FOR IN A BOOK. IF YOU WANT A VERY LIGHT READ FOR A TRIP OR JUST A DAY IN THE SUN, I STRONGLY SUGGEST YOU PICK UP A COPY OF "PATTY JANE". ALL THE CHARACTERS ARE OH SO LOVABLE AND EXTREMELY MEMORABLE.
Rating: Summary: Shallow and juvenile Review: Sorry, but I could only take the first four chapters. The characters had no depth and the writing was amateurish. I had just finished reading "Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood" when I tried to read this book. Like comparing a Lexus to a Yugo.
