Rating: Summary: More Sad than Funny Review: Since this book was written by a stand up comic I was expecting more laughsand less tradgedy, but I loved the quirky characters, unpredictable plot twists, and Minnesota setting. If you liked Steel Magnolias, I think you would like this book.
Rating: Summary: Can you say "sap"? Review: This book will appeal to readers who like things light and sappy, but a mature reader will probably find it a waste of time. The plot is ridiculous. The characters are likable, but not complex enough. We are supposed to believe Patty Jane is this wise soul who should be a model to us all, but Patty Jane is as silly as the rest of the characters. Read the Cape Ann if your interested in a light read, but with depth to the characters.
Rating: Summary: Don't let the title fool you... Review: I have to admit, I purchased this book because I was looking for a story that was going to make me laugh. The title and the description on the back was the prime reason for buying this book. But I have to say how surprised and pleased I was that PATTY JANE'S HOUSE OF CURL turned out to be so meaningful. I laughed as I knew I would; I cried, especially over the last chapter; and I was completely fulfilled after reading the Epilogue, which cinched the entire purpose of the book into a few pages. I enjoyed this book immensely and recommend it highly.
Rating: Summary: Heartwarming... couldnt put it down. Review: A friend sent me this book, and it sat on the shelf about a year before I decided to look past the front cover. I was hooked from page one. Maybe growing up in MN. was a factor, but I truely loved every moment of the story and wasnt ready for it to end. Its a heartwarming story of two sisters and those that enter and exit their lives. I revisited every inch of the beautiful Twin Cities as I read... the last few lines of the Epilogue sum everything up for me.
Rating: Summary: beautifully written and totally absorbing Review: as i grew up in minneapolis, patty jane's house of curl brought to life many of my hometown haunts. maybe that is why this book touched me so deeply. i found i could not put it down and read it all in one day. the characters come to life with humor and strength. please read this and you will be uplifted even in the face of patty jane's very turbulent life.
Rating: Summary: Really Liked This One Review: I really liked this book - possibly because I had never heard of it and didn't hear any hype. I saw the title on amazon.com and thought it sounded good. I liked the writing style, the development of the characters, the setting, and the integrity the author had assimilating the above into a good story. I enjoyed the female characters tremendously and felt a real sense of satisfaction when the book ended. I especially appreciated the epilogue. Great work - would love to read more by this author!
Rating: Summary: one of the best I have ever read Review: Lorna made the characters so real, I felt like I was a customer in the beauty shop. The girls and their problems were so believable
Rating: Summary: So Much Fun To Read Review: I was swept up into this book from page 1. Definately for fans of Fannie Flagg and Rebecca Wells. You might also want to read Michael Lee West's Crazy Ladies and also the books of Mark Childress.
Rating: Summary: Another great book by a Mn author Review: I read this book last summer and it was one of those books that you can't put down. It's funny, uplifting and so sad. Not predictable by any means. The mystery of her first husband fascinated me. It's resolution was surprising and made me very angry. This book provoked many feelings in me. Everyone that I know who has read it has really enjoyed it.
Rating: Summary: If you loved the movie : Green tomatoes, you will love this Review: I own a bookshop in Germany. I really read a lot. A lot of books are nice, but sometimes there is one book - that is reallyl something else. This is one of those: It is funny, it is sad, it has a great "language" it`s just worth reading it. Take yourself a weekend with a glass of redwine and...... enjoy !!!!! Maybe the translation into German is just great but we sold this book 160 times in a small city and all my female readers love (!!!!) it. They say : Can you recommend something as good as Patty Jane. To tell the truth : Hard to find.
