Rating: Summary: If all his books are like this . . . Review: I have never read a Baldacci before, and I can't say that I'm sorry. I always read books thorugh even if I don't like them, but this one has been painful from the start. I'm sad to say that I will not be finishing this one, and that I will probably donate it to the public library. Obviously Baldacci's other books must be better, or we wouldn't be a bestselling author. I have found Saving Faith to be confusing, somewhat boring, and lacking a hook to get me interested. I'm about 50 pages into it and I still don't know what the whole ting is about. I think I'll stick to Grisham for crime thrillers.
Rating: Summary: Takes Effort Review: Fbi, Cia, lobbyist on capitol hill, murder, romance, espionage, all in this book. Should be exciting, right? Wrong. The end picks up the pace a bit, so just skip to it and don't bother with the beginning. Mr. Baldacci must have cruised on this one.
Rating: Summary: disappointing Review: Usually a fan of Baldacci, I felt let down by his latest book, Saving Faith. The characters were not developed to the point that I could care about them. The plot was the same old corruption in govt by right wing wakos and the little guys who find them out. Better luck next time Mr. B
Rating: Summary: Zzzzz.... Review: I received Saving Faith as a gift. It is only one of the few books in my lifetime that I have not gotten through the first few pages. The whole "I've gotta secret and now the government is out to get me" theme is a tired one. It has certainly turned me against reading any more books by Baldacci.
Rating: Summary: It's an un-novel... Review: I have read Baldacci's other books, and generally enjoyed them, particularly Total Control. Baldacci's strength is his in-depth descriptions of technical items, whether it's how home alarm systems work or how the FBI and the airlines work together to track people down. That's interesting stuff and Baldacci does a good job seamlessly weaving it into the story at hand. He does that much in the same way as Clancy does, while exhibiting an ability to create female characters better than Clancy ever could. The problem is the rest of the novel. First of all, this is an un-mystery: everything is known or can be guessed early on. It is un-thrilling for the same reason. It is un-compelling (is that a woid?)because it is hard to believe the sequence of events. Why would someone have an alias and then go back to the original name, for example? (That's the best example I can think of without letting a big spoiler go...) And I absolutely HATE the villan (or hero for that matter) who knows all things, is everywhere, and is a perfect predictor of future events, until the end. The worst thing is that the novel is un-original. Those of us who have read the other novels, particularly The Winner, will recognize the stock descriptions of certain locations. I don't know...part of me liked this book, but, overall, I expected more.
Rating: Summary: Waiting for the movie Review: I have read all the prior Baldacci books and I can see that he has also fallen into the rut experienced by so many pop novelists these days. Your first few books are really interesting and great, then people keep expecting the same, and for whatever reason the subsequent books just don't compare. As I was reading this, I had a sense of deja vu, sort of like what I experienced while reading Crichton's The Lost World. Namely, that the author had already written a movie script outline and just fleshed it out to book length for our convenience. Some of these characters have the most outrageous lines. I definitely think the author had Jon Voight in mind as the slimeball CIA guy Thornhill. There are not a lot of actors who can deliver such stuff and Voight is one of them.. Don't get me wrong, this was an interesting book, but it just didn't stand up and smack me in the face (like, for instance, The Silence of the Lambs). I read this while in the hospital waiting for our second baby to be born. It was a good way to occupy several hours. I am sure it will have completely departed my consciousness in a week or two.
Rating: Summary: Well it's OK Review: I've read everything Baldacchhi has written, and this one is pretty much what I would expect from him. It's worth it if you have nothing better to do.
Rating: Summary: one star is too much Review: I red all Baldaci books and I loved them They were really good until this one which sucks. I can not imagine how Baldaci discredit himself with this book. Shame on the editor how put pressure on him to come up with something else. Money are not anything in this business.
Rating: Summary: Great! Review: I loved this book, I thought it was just as good as all his other work! I'd recomend this book to a friend, in fact I've lent it to others and they loved it too! Hurray for Baldacci, keep up the good work!
Rating: Summary: Saving Faith Review: I could not believe how boring and predictable this book was. One was never sure what it was that sent Faith to the FBI. Do not waste your time on this book. How did anyone ever publish this book. I could guess what the next line was before I read it. Give a new author a chance.
