Summary: Interested in Native American history?
Review: Then I suggest you pick this book right away and start reading ~~ it will be one book that you will never forget. I know. I re-read it every year and have been doing so for the last 10 years. I first picked it up during a summer working in Yellowstone ~~ that was when I started becoming interested in Native American Indian History ~~ and needing something lighter and easier to read, I started with "Ride the Wind."

This is such a great beginning introduction to reading about the Comanches ~~ even though the book is a novel ~~ it is based on what few known historical facts on Cynthia Parker and the man who she calls husband ~~ Wanderer, one of the last great Comanche chiefs. Robson writes with passion the story of a white girl kidnapped by the Indians in her youth ~~ and how she transformed her ways to those of the tribe. It is a heart-warming story, one that will haunt you for the rest of your life. It also shows a softer side to the Indians that you normally won't see ~~ they're not the savages as people make them to be. I'm not saying that they're not fierce warriors ~~ they are and do practice warfare with a savergy that is different from what historians call "civilised society." But Robson shows the fierce loyalty the Comanche have for their tribe and one another ~~ and their way of life.

Pick this book up. I guarantee that you won't walk away from it without being haunted by the stories that Cynthia and her friends share with you. It is an eye-opener into the way of life then. And it is a heart-breaking story as well. Try it and see. I don't think you'll regret it.

Summary: THE BEST BOOK EVER WRITTEN
Review: I first came across this book in my school library. It was so good that I had several late fees on it because I wouldn't turn it in until I received mine from amazon!! I have always been fascinated with Native Americans and have been to several Reservations. The best thing about this book, is it tells a wonderful (TRUE!!) history of fascinating people, the Commanches. Once you've read this book, it will stay with you forever. It makes you wish you were Cynthia Ann! Lucia describes everyone and everything in such detail. It tells of the Commanche ways. You learn a lot about their culture and religion. It has a surprising end too. It will make you laugh and cry, it will make you happy and sad. This is a must read for Indian lovers. You will fall in love with the book, just like I did.
PS. special thanks to Lucia St. Clair Robson for writing such a WONDERFUL book. I am so glad we have people like you who can write a book so beautifully!!

Summary: One of my faves since 1984!!!
Review: I first came across this book when a friend in high school handed it to me. She had gotten it from the school library, it was ragged, tattered and faded. Nonetheless, she was very adamant and so I read it and was hooked. I have been looking for this book since I first read it in 84. Excellent; action; romance; and sympathy all mixed in one. The story was very compelling and moving...something that I have not experienced with any other book that I have ever read. What is more provoking is that most of the book is true, but it gives you a different outlook than the history books...Cynthia's outlook on things and her perspective. Very moving and this book is a must have.

Summary: This Book Is A Masterpiece
Review: I was twelve when I first picked up Ride the Wind and read it in two days. The story of Naduah fascinated me and I could not put it down. When I finally finished the last page, I cried. The story is so touching and I felt as though I were Naduah. It showed both the struggles of the Indians and the whites. I think this book made me really understand the relationship the Comanches and Texans had. I know more than I could ever have hoped to learn about this Indian culture by reading Robson's book. Ride the Wind was the first real love story I ever read and I will always hold it as an example to any book I ever read. I have read this book countless times, going back again and again to my favorite parts. I would like to thank the author; who I have wanted to contact for a long time; for writing a wonderful work of historical fiction. And, as it might be obvious to some, my screen name is named after a character in the book.

Summary: Great Read
Review: I originally picked up this novel because my husband is related to Cynthia Ann and Quanah...but I kept reading it becuase it is WONDERFULLY written and tells the TRUE story..not some "adaptation" of the indians and their way of life...Great reading...I bought copies for all my yankee relatives so they could have a "real" understanding of the heritage of the Indians.

Summary: A WONDERFUL LOVE STORY AND A HISTORY LESSON TO HEED
Review: Ms.ROBSON writes a great story about something true and adds fiction to keep the flow interesting. Cynthia Ann Parker born in 1827 and at 9yrs. of age was captured by the Comanche Indians as they killed and slaughtered most of the others in the small fort. After many frightened months and months she finally but gradually gives up and allows herself to be Indian. In time she falls in love with a great warrior named wanderer. Their first child is a boy and named Quanah. Wanderer and Quanah are on a lengthy hunting trip with many of the other warriors of the Noconi tribe. Naduah and her two younger children are taken away during a raid. After being terrorized and long suffering Naduah and her youngest child end up with Naduah's white uncle. A tear jerking novel of how the Indians are destroyed by superior weapons and fatal white mans deseases.

Summary: One of My Favorites
Review: Ride the Wind is one of the best books I have ever read. It is hands down my favorite book. It tells a story about war, love, and heartache. I have always be fascinated with the Native American culture and this was the first book I read and so far the only book that was true to the Native American culture. To this day, I still pull out Ride the Wind and read over my favorite parts. It will make you laugh, cry, and long for the days of past. I would recommend this book to everyone.

Summary: Historical Romance
Review: I came across Ride the Wind while doing a study on Quanah's connection to the Parker family through his mother, Cynthia Ann Parker. Having read some of the most heart-wrentching accounts of the struggle this young women went through, I was pleased to find that Robson had inserted some romance and happiness into Cynthia's life. What struck me about the book was that a good part of it is based on historic fact; Robson must have read many accounts and then consolidated them into one amazing book. I recomend this book to anyone interested in the Comanche, or adventure stories; and I caution you to remember that much of it is true. Cynthia Ann Parker is one of the strongest historical figures I have ever studied, and Robson's book brings her tragedy and joy to life beautifully.

Summary: Ride the Wind
Review: I recently started to read this book after many years and am amazed at how wonderfully descriptive the writer is. She makes one see so clearly what she is writing that you feel like you are there with the characters. She makes you see that no matter what race or color, we are all the same. We feel love, hate, happiness, sadness and all other emotions of the human spirit. She lets us see what everyday Indian life was like. I have some favorite books in my library that I read over and over and I am sure I'll read this one again.

Summary: A haunting tale you won't forget.
Review: When I was in highschool, my best friend handed me a tattered, worn out, pages- falling- out- of- it book. The cover was even missing! She just looked at me and said, "Read it." I was rather turned off by the disheveled look of the book, but nonethless I promptly took it home and winded up spending the next three days locked up in my room. Since highschool, I have re-read the book many times and each time I read, it's as if I'm revisting old friends.

To put it simply, this was one of the first books that made me love reading. What stands out about Robson's writing is that everything seems so real. Though it can be considered a historical romance, there is nothing fairy taleish about it that is characteristic of so many other romance novels.

Lucia St.Clair Robson is a librarian. One day, she came across some information about a person named Cynthia Ann Parker and how she grew up with the Comanche tribe. The more she read about Cynthia, the more she was hooked. Finally, she decided that she had to write out Cynthia's story. This book is the result. Now of course, this book is a work of fiction becuase Robson took many liberties by filling in things that were missing from the actual historical record. Still, the whole story seemed very real to me. It gave me moments of pure joy in addition to moments in which I bawled my eyes out.
