Rating: Summary: Not to be missed! Review: Trevor captured my heart with his innocence and straight forward approach to life. All of us should consider adding "pay it forward" to our own lives and improve upon the society in which we live.
Rating: Summary: Utterly unique Review: What a fabulous book I just finished! I'll have to admit it, I was skeptical at first, just because the premise seemed so corny and fantastical. A twelve year old boy changes the world with a school assignment? This could be written in so many wrong ways. Luckily, Catherine Ryan Hyde did not take the idealistic path, instead creating a very believable story about real, imperfect people who make mistakes, and yet still manage to help the world change. I was completely caught up and didn't want it to end. But the ending just adds more to her beautiful points about life in general, particularly the reality and unfairness of it. How brilliant to create a novel so uplifting in the midst of tragedy. HIGHLY recommended.
Rating: Summary: Pay It Forward: A Novel Review: I finished this book in one night because I couldn't put it down. Trevor captured my heart with his simple goodness. I wish "pay it forward" could exist in real life.
Rating: Summary: This Book Stays With You... Review: As a writer myself, I am generally a pretty tough book critic, but I found this book to be highly entertaining in every sense of the word. It enabled me to suspend my disbelief, just a little bit, to believe in the good of the human soul, to identify with the characters...to connect with the author's creations. My own personal meter on if a book/movie etc., is considered great is if it stays with you, days after you have seen it, in the corners of your mind. If you find yourself thinking about it in the shower the morning after you've completed it and then again on the ride home from work days later-that book has done its job. A job WELL DONE !
Rating: Summary: Wonderful book Review: This book is uplifting, a joy to read. It is filled with well-drawn, believable characters that you care about, and a premise that works. Don't miss it!
Rating: Summary: If only it were non-fiction Review: "Paying it forward" is one of the most inspiring concepts I've ever come across. It's so simple, so compelling, so brilliant one wishes a real-life Trevor would come along and set it in motion. Catherine Ryan Hyde deserves our gratitude for the idea. Come to think of it, the book itself is an act of generosity worth paying forward. My problem with the novel is that Trevor remains a mystery. I never felt as if I really got to know him. Perhaps I would have enjoyed it more had the story been told from his perspective; the constant shifting of narrative voice is confusing. Also, the subplot about the young transvestite was a jarring distraction. Still, a delightful, thought-provoking book, worth reading and sharing. I only hope Hollywood doesn't ruin it by tacking on a happy, feel-good ending.
Rating: Summary: This was a great book Review: I really liked this book.We are reading it now in my 6th period class. It is a very sad book.
Rating: Summary: Makes you think that you are capable of changing the world! Review: Today, most of us think about what we can do for ourselves- get more money, bigger houses, more things. This little book, although it is fiction, made me think more about how I can help others out there. I know that it is hard to think that one person can make a difference, but Pay It Forward shows that it can happen. I know that this story's lesson will stay with me for the rest of my life. And, like in the story, I hope that all who read it will pay it forward, however they can and whenever they can.
Rating: Summary: It May Be Fiction- But It Should Be a Household Bible! Review: This book has changed my perspective on life completely. Trevor has taught me so much about how to treat people and not to give up- and I usually hate this kind of literature...but this book has my heart! Catherine Ryan Hyde writes beautifully and her dialogue is fantastic! I bought a copy for everyone I know!
Rating: Summary: Real Tears Review: There are very few books that can make me openly express emotion. However, I had real tears while reading this book. Since it is the first book I have finished in a weekend since my son was born, I give it such a high rating. It is inspirational on so many levels without being preachy or religious. I definately recommend it to anyone who is looking for a meaningful book that is also an easy, quick read.
