Summary: An unusual novel about Henry VIII
Review: Margaret Geroge dispels the illusion of King Henry VIII. Contradicting common thought, a very likeable Henry is portrayed in this hard to put down novel. From the extensive bibliography, George did her research and puts together a well rounded novel based on facts, not fancy. I hope to read more of Margaret George, her books are always an excellent journey.

Summary: An usurpassable piece of literature!
Review: This was the best book I have ever read! For someone who is really interested in Henry VIII and his colorful wives, this is it. I only hope Ms. George writes more books about the people of theat era, especially the third Duke of Norfolk.

Summary: Great Book -- fun way to learn about history.
Review: I read this book some years ago after having visited the Tower of London and hearing some stories of who died there. The book fascinated me from the beginning. I seem to recall that after a while the fool is not as evident as in the beginning and I kind of missed his fun outlook.

I knew very little about the England's history and the origins of the Anglican Church. This book taught me a bit about that in a *very* interesting way. It's very hard to put the book down. I lent it to a person and I haven't seen it since. It deserves to be read again so: I need a new copy!

Summary: Delicious!
Review: When i told people i was reading a book about Henry VIII, nobody could not believe i would spend time reading about history. This wasn't just history, this was getting to know an incredible man. The writing was wonderful, the story moved along quickly, and sometimes i had to remind myself that although it was fictionalized, these were mostly true events. My only regret is that it was almost too large to lug along as reading material while standing in line - a minor complaint at that.

Summary: Simply Marvelous.
Review: I am convinced that I know Harry! What an amazing book. I do have to confess, as I neared the end of the book, I became a bit depressed. It seems impossible that such an amazing life could begin, flourish and end in such a short space of time (900+ pages). I am now beginning her book on Cleopatra and am starting a new, yet equally wonderful, voyage. Read this book!!!

Summary: Henry VIII - Up Close & Personal
Review: This book really gives you insight into the burdens of Kingship. Its easy to share all of Henry's successes and disappointments, its almost like you're his confidant and there beside him through his incredible reign. It gives new meaning to "heavy is the head that wears the crown". When Henry died at the end, I felt like I lost an old and dear friend. This book shows not only the King, but the man as well and the price he had to pay for the Crown of England. It also relates the good and bad that resulted from his reign and clears up the misconception that all Henry VIII was was a wife murdering meglomaniac. The author has truly given us Henry VIII, up close and personal. I can sum this book up in one word "Excellent".

Summary: I met Henry!
Review: Now that I'm finished with this book, I can get something else accomplished. I'm afraid it was almost impossible to put down. I'm quite sure I have actually met Henry!

Summary: A Journey Back in Time!!
Review: I was looking for something to read that I could really sink my teeth into... and I found this book. And what a find it was! Between work and family and everything else besides, I finished this book in a matter of weeks. I couldn't put it down! Coinicidently, I teach a class in European History and we were discussing Henry VIII at the same time I was engrossed in the book. Not only did I thoroughly love it, but my students loved hearing all about the "legend" of Henry and his wives. It was probably their favorite part of the entire class. Even months later, they still ask me to tell them more about him. Margaret George has done a wonderful job of bringing Henry, the King to her readers as the Henry, the Man. Thank you!

Summary: A book for lovers of historical fiction!
Review: The author says her reason for writing this book was to meet Henry VIII in person. In the process, we do too. We meet a young man who grows into a king, a boy who loves and discovers he can't have love and be king. Here are the hard choices and great pains of a man who happened to be king instead of the priest he was suppose to be.

Summary: I'm Henry VIII, I am I am
Review: One of the best texts of historical fiction I have read. Ms. George researches the topic with all of her heart and soul and steaps you back into the time when men were men and Henry was KING! I really enjoyed this perspective on Henry as too many times he is know as the king with the six wives whom he divorced, beheaded, died, divorced, beheaded, survived, as the saying goes. I felt for the women, but began to understand why he felt he should become the supreme head of the church, why he felt omnipotent, and why he had so many wives. I LOVED THIS BOOK! I recommend this and another book by Ms. George entitled, Mary Queen of Scotts and the Isles. Both a must read and both available at Amazon.com
