Summary: The Autobiograpy of Henry VIII
Review: I found this to be a fascinating book. I have read numerous books on Henry VIII and also have traced his steps in England. This book brings all of his deeds to life. Although it was lengthly I found the reading easy and enjoyable. Highly Recommend.

Summary: A very educational, but sometimes boring book
Review: This is a very well researched book. I wanted to rate it higher, but I couldn't, because there were parts to this book where I couldn't stand to read on. I was just too bored. I don't credit this to Margaret George at all. The predictability of the book comes directly from King Henry's life. Therefore, she did well in her job of putting down his life. I struggled getting through it, just because it is a slow book

Summary: This is a great book - Cannot WAIT for Ms. George's next !
Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this book, even though the size of it was daunting at first! (I liked it so much so that my sis got it for Christmas last year - I was that sure that anyone who picked up up would enjoy it!) Don't forget to try CLeopatra - the book is wonderful and don't get swayed by the ABC movie and lackluster acting. Mary Queen of Scots, while well written, is probably the weakest, simply because for a good part of her life Mary was shunted from place to place while being held captive in England.

Summary: The best of George's 3 books
Review: This was definately the best of Margaret George's books (followed by Cleopatra and then Mary). It took a little while to get into, but it was worth it overall. A good book that brought Henry and his wives to life. If you don't like long books, then don't even start this one just to complain later that it was way too long.

Summary: Absolutely Excellent!!
Review: After having read official biography after biography about Hal the 8th it was wonderful to read a fictionalized account of his life that followed fairly closely the 'true' events of his life. Although his courtship of Anne Boleyn left much to be desired- more of a business arrangement than grand passion- it didn't stop me from enjoying the rest of the book. Margaret George has done a wonderful job and I can't wait for her next novel. Anything by Ms. George is worth the read and I heartily recommend "Mary, Queen of Scotland and the Isles", also.

Summary: An excellent insight into the man we love to hate!
Review: I simply could not put this book down and read it rather quickly! It appeared to me that all he really wanted out of his earlier life was to be accepted and loved. The true love of his life was taken shortly after his son was born and from there he was lost. A truly wonderful read... can't wait to read the other books by Geroge!

Summary: I felt like I was by Henry VIII's side his whole life!
Review: I read this book about 10 years ago and have just re-read it. It is just as I remembered it... wonderful! It offers a whole new side to the man we love to hate. I could not put it down and did not want it to end!

Summary: A reader in Pasadena, Maryland
Review: As a staunch Protestant, I entered this book with my mind made up on the charachters, the issues of the "Enlightenment" following the "Reformation" and heretical issues only to lose myself in M. George's thoroughly engrossing story she has woven around this explosive period in time and the people involved. She is very effective in explaining all of this intrigue.

Henry VIII is one of the most dynamic monarchs in all of England's History not only for his marriages, but in the role of the church and what its role is and would be in his reign and for the reigns to come.

If you want to know more, read this book. M. George tells in her story of all the ramifications and consequences to the people in this tumultous period. When it's over, you wish it wasn't!

Summary: Well, its okay, but it leaves something to be desired...
Review: It could have been better... A real disapointment, especially after I read George's PHENOMINAL Memoirs of Cleopatra. A real LETDOWN!!!! :^(

Summary: ONE OF THE BEST HISTORICAL NOVELS EVER WRITTEN
Review: Without doubt, one of the finest historical novels ever written and, in my opinion, the best one devoted to Henry VIII. Margaret George is Mary Renault's succesor in the field of historical fiction and "Autobiography of Henry VIII" is more than enough proof. Should you require further convincing, please read "Mary, Queen of Scots" or her most recent, "Memoirs of Cleopatra;" both are equally wonderful, impeccably researched and brilliantly written. The England of the sixteenth century rises from those pages in an all too real fashion. You are wholly submerged in the courtly life of both Henry VIII and his father Henry VII. For once, Henry VIII is not a caricature, but a living, breathing entity, properly recognized as a leading figure in history, as brilliant and ambitious as he was cruel and misguided. Ms. George takes care to give us a very balanced picture of this larger than life (no pun intended) monarch and those that surrounded and influenced him. An incredible read for those who adore history. Highly, highly recommended. I eagerly await Ms. George's next novel.
